Book Synopsis Algebraic Methods in Philosophical Logic by : J. Michael Dunn
Download or read book Algebraic Methods in Philosophical Logic written by J. Michael Dunn and published by OUP Oxford. This book was released on 2001-06-28 with total page 490 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This comprehensive text demonstrates how various notions of logic can be viewed as notions of universal algebra. It is aimed primarily for logisticians in mathematics, philosophy, computer science and linguistics with an interest in algebraic logic, but is also accessible to those from a non-logistics background. It is suitable for researchers, graduates and advanced undergraduates who have an introductory knowledge of algebraic logic providing more advanced concepts, as well as more theoretical aspects. The main theme is that standard algebraic results (representations) translate into standard logical results (completeness). Other themes involve identification of a class of algebras appropriate for classical and non-classical logic studies, including: gaggles, distributoids, partial- gaggles, and tonoids. An imporatant sub title is that logic is fundamentally information based, with its main elements being propositions, that can be understood as sets of information states. Logics are considered in various senses e.g. systems of theorems, consequence relations and, symmetric consequence relations.
Book Synopsis Methods of Algebraic Geometry in Control Theory: Part I by : Peter Falb
Download or read book Methods of Algebraic Geometry in Control Theory: Part I written by Peter Falb and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-08-25 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "An introduction to the ideas of algebraic geometry in the motivated context of system theory." Thus the author describes his textbook that has been specifically written to serve the needs of students of systems and control. Without sacrificing mathematical care, the author makes the basic ideas of algebraic geometry accessible to engineers and applied scientists. The emphasis is on constructive methods and clarity rather than abstraction. The student will find here a clear presentation with an applied flavor, of the core ideas in the algebra-geometric treatment of scalar linear system theory. The author introduces the four representations of a scalar linear system and establishes the major results of a similar theory for multivariable systems appearing in a succeeding volume (Part II: Multivariable Linear Systems and Projective Algebraic Geometry). Prerequisites are the basics of linear algebra, some simple notions from topology and the elementary properties of groups, rings, and fields, and a basic course in linear systems. Exercises are an integral part of the treatment and are used where relevant in the main body of the text. The present, softcover reprint is designed to make this classic textbook available to a wider audience. "This book is a concise development of affine algebraic geometry together with very explicit links to the applications...[and] should address a wide community of readers, among pure and applied mathematicians." —Monatshefte für Mathematik

This book was released on 1991-04-10 with total page 448 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The proper treatment and choice of the basic data structures is an important and complex part in the process of program construction. Algebraic methods provide techniques for data abstraction and the structured specification, validation and analysis of data structures. This volume originates from a workshop organized within ESPRIT Project 432 METEOR, An Integrated Formal Approach to Industrial Software Development, held in Mierlo, The Netherlands, September 1989. The volume includes five invited contributions based on workshop talks given by A. Finkelstein, P. Klint, C.A. Middelburg, E.-R. Olderog, and H.A. Partsch. Ten further papers by members of the METEOR team are based on talks given at the workshop. The workshop was a successor to an earlier one held in Passau, Germany, June 1987, the proceedings of which were published as Lecture Notes in Computer Science, Vol. 394.
Book Synopsis Algebraic Methods of Mathematical Logic by : Ladislav Rieger
Download or read book Algebraic Methods of Mathematical Logic written by Ladislav Rieger and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-05-12 with total page 213 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Algebraic Methods of Mathematical Logic focuses on the algebraic methods of mathematical logic, including Boolean algebra, mathematical language, and arithmetization. The book first offers information on the dialectic of the relation between mathematical and metamathematical aspects; metamathematico-mathematical parallelism and its natural limits; practical applications of methods of mathematical logic; and principal mathematical tools of mathematical logic. The text then elaborates on the language of mathematics and its symbolization and recursive construction of the relation of consequence. Discussions focus on recursive construction of the relation of consequence, fundamental descriptively-semantic rules, mathematical logic and mathematical language as a material system of signs, and the substance and purpose of symbolization of mathematical language. The publication examines expressive possibilities of symbolization; intuitive and mathematical notions of an idealized axiomatic mathematical theory; and the algebraic theory of elementary predicate logic. Topics include the notion of Boolean algebra based on joins, meets, and complementation, logical frame of a language and mathematical theory, and arithmetization and algebraization. The manuscript is a valuable reference for mathematicians and researchers interested in the algebraic methods of mathematical logic.
Book Synopsis Polyhedral and Algebraic Methods in Computational Geometry by : Michael Joswig
Download or read book Polyhedral and Algebraic Methods in Computational Geometry written by Michael Joswig and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-01-04 with total page 251 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Polyhedral and Algebraic Methods in Computational Geometry provides a thorough introduction into algorithmic geometry and its applications. It presents its primary topics from the viewpoints of discrete, convex and elementary algebraic geometry. The first part of the book studies classical problems and techniques that refer to polyhedral structures. The authors include a study on algorithms for computing convex hulls as well as the construction of Voronoi diagrams and Delone triangulations. The second part of the book develops the primary concepts of (non-linear) computational algebraic geometry. Here, the book looks at Gröbner bases and solving systems of polynomial equations. The theory is illustrated by applications in computer graphics, curve reconstruction and robotics. Throughout the book, interconnections between computational geometry and other disciplines (such as algebraic geometry, optimization and numerical mathematics) are established. Polyhedral and Algebraic Methods in Computational Geometry is directed towards advanced undergraduates in mathematics and computer science, as well as towards engineering students who are interested in the applications of computational geometry.
Book Synopsis Algebraic and Differential Methods for Nonlinear Control Theory by : Rafael Martínez-Guerra
Download or read book Algebraic and Differential Methods for Nonlinear Control Theory written by Rafael Martínez-Guerra and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-01-30 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a short primer in engineering mathematics with a view on applications in nonlinear control theory. In particular, it introduces some elementary concepts of commutative algebra and algebraic geometry which offer a set of tools quite different from the traditional approaches to the subject matter. This text begins with the study of elementary set and map theory. Chapters 2 and 3 on group theory and rings, respectively, are included because of their important relation to linear algebra, the group of invertible linear maps (or matrices) and the ring of linear maps of a vector space. Homomorphisms and Ideals are dealt with as well at this stage. Chapter 4 is devoted to the theory of matrices and systems of linear equations. Chapter 5 gives some information on permutations, determinants and the inverse of a matrix. Chapter 6 tackles vector spaces over a field, Chapter 7 treats linear maps resp. linear transformations, and in addition the application in linear control theory of some abstract theorems such as the concept of a kernel, the image and dimension of vector spaces are illustrated. Chapter 8 considers the diagonalization of a matrix and their canonical forms. Chapter 9 provides a brief introduction to elementary methods for solving differential equations and, finally, in Chapter 10, nonlinear control theory is introduced from the point of view of differential algebra.
