Book Synopsis Enumerative Algebraic Geometry by : Hieronymus Georg Zeuthen
Download or read book Enumerative Algebraic Geometry written by Hieronymus Georg Zeuthen and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1991 with total page 278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 1989 marked the 150th anniversary of the birth of the great Danish mathematician Hieronymus Georg Zeuthen. Zeuthen's name is known to every algebraic geometer because of his discovery of a basic invariant of surfaces. However, he also did fundamental research in intersection theory, enumerative geometry, and the projective geometry of curves and surfaces. Zeuthen's extraordinary devotion to his subject, his characteristic depth, thoroughness, and clarity of thought, and his precise and succinct writing style are truly inspiring. During the past ten years or so, algebraic geometers have reexamined Zeuthen's work, drawing from it inspiration and new directions for development in the field. The 1989 Zeuthen Symposium, held in the summer of 1989 at the Mathematical Institute of the University of Copenhagen, provided a historic opportunity for mathematicians to gather and examine those areas in contemporary mathematical research which have evolved from Zeuthen's fruitful ideas. This volume, containing papers presented during the symposium, as well as others inspired by it, illuminates some currently active areas of research in enumerative algebraic geometry.

Book Synopsis Hilbert Schemes of Zero-Dimensional Subschemes of Smooth Varieties by : Lothar Göttsche
Download or read book Hilbert Schemes of Zero-Dimensional Subschemes of Smooth Varieties written by Lothar Göttsche and published by Springer. This book was released on 2006-11-15 with total page 207 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book we study Hilbert schemes of zero-dimensional subschemes of smooth varieties and several related parameter varieties of interest in enumerative geometry. The main aim here is to describe their cohomology and Chow rings. Some enumerative applications are also given. The Weil conjectures are used to compute the Betti numbers of many of the varieties considered, thus also illustrating how this powerful tool can be applied. The book is essentially self-contained, assuming only a basic knowledge of algebraic geometry; it is intended both for graduate students and research mathematicians interested in Hilbert schemes, enumertive geometry and moduli spaces.

Book Synopsis Geometry of Algebraic Curves by : Enrico Arbarello
Download or read book Geometry of Algebraic Curves written by Enrico Arbarello and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-03-10 with total page 983 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The second volume of the Geometry of Algebraic Curves is devoted to the foundations of the theory of moduli of algebraic curves. Its authors are research mathematicians who have actively participated in the development of the Geometry of Algebraic Curves. The subject is an extremely fertile and active one, both within the mathematical community and at the interface with the theoretical physics community. The approach is unique in its blending of algebro-geometric, complex analytic and topological/combinatorial methods. It treats important topics such as Teichmüller theory, the cellular decomposition of moduli and its consequences and the Witten conjecture. The careful and comprehensive presentation of the material is of value to students who wish to learn the subject and to experts as a reference source. The first volume appeared 1985 as vol. 267 of the same series.
Book Synopsis Configuration Spaces over Hilbert Schemes and Applications by : Danielle Dias
Download or read book Configuration Spaces over Hilbert Schemes and Applications written by Danielle Dias and published by Springer. This book was released on 2006-11-14 with total page 149 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The main themes of this book are to establish the triple formula without any hypotheses on the genericity of the morphism, and to develop a theory of complete quadruple points, which is a first step towards proving the quadruple point formula under less restrictive hypotheses. This book should be of interest to graduate students and researchers in the field of algebraic geometry. The reader is expected to have some basic knowledge of enumerative algebraic geometry and pointwise Hilbert schemes.
Book Synopsis Commutative Algebra and Its Connections to Geometry by : Alberto Corso
Download or read book Commutative Algebra and Its Connections to Geometry written by Alberto Corso and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2011-10-20 with total page 233 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains papers based on presentations given at the Pan-American Advanced Studies Institute (PASI) on commutative algebra and its connections to geometry, which was held August 3-14, 2009, at the Universidade Federal de Pernambuco in Olinda, Brazil. The main goal of the program was to detail recent developments in commutative algebra and interactions with such areas as algebraic geometry, combinatorics and computer algebra. The articles in this volume concentrate on topics central to modern commutative algebra: the homological conjectures, problems in positive and mixed characteristic, tight closure and its interaction with birational geometry, integral dependence and blowup algebras, equisingularity theory, Hilbert functions and multiplicities, combinatorial commutative algebra, Grobner bases and computational algebra.
