Book Synopsis Like Blood in Water by : I︠U︡riĭ Tarnavsʹkyĭ
Download or read book Like Blood in Water written by I︠U︡riĭ Tarnavsʹkyĭ and published by University of Alabama Press. This book was released on 2007-03-11 with total page 193 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A surrealist account of the creative and descriptive arts. In these five surrealist collages, waking life continually gives way before the onslaught of dreams. Yuriy Tarnawsky has condensed the vastness of scope typical of novels into shorter fragments—mininovels—that require the reader’s active participation. The tone is a balance of dead-pan comedy and solemn gothic, sometimes a near-parody of wide-eyed candor, sometimes recounting utterly mad or barely conceivable states of affairs. A candidate for major surgery struggles unsuccessfully to avoid it. Two strangers meet, and eventually marry, after participating in scream therapy. A pianist stops playing because he believes his hand is not there when he sits at the keyboard. A character sees the giant blue and white flowers he has craved his whole life only at the instance of his electrocution. Tyler Pavarotti, a tailor, voluntarily takes a role in a production in which he will be killed. Tarnawsky’s language is elegant and careful, and his studied concentration of rhythm allows his work to transcend prose, nestling somewhere within the realm of musical composition. Both tragic and beautiful, in these stories life dissolves in time like blood in water.

Download or read book Book of Dreams written by Davis Bunn and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2011-10-04 with total page 354 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For Dr. Elena Burroughs, life is divided into two chapters—before and after the death of her husband. Today marks the point that her span of being a wife is equal to her span of being a widow. Even her success as a psychologist and her worldwide acclaim for a book on the interpretation of dreams is dimmed by an unspoken If only. Then a new patient arrives, one so private only her first name is given. Impeccably dressed and escorted by two bodyguards, Sandra recounts a frightening series of recurrent nightmares. Elena agrees to consider her case more carefully, convinced that something ominous may be at work here. Elena’s interpretation of her dreams confirms that, indeed, the new patient and her family confront a powerful global network of dangerous forces. As the story unfolds, they face a key question of the Christian life: How do you understand and fulfill the will of God?

Download or read book The Ice War written by Anders Blixt and published by Ravspel. This book was released on 2015-05-21 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The year is an alternate 1940. In Europe breakaway Czech and German republics have taken up arms against the oppressive Habsburg Empire. Rebel spy Johnny Bornewald is dispatched to the southern-most continent of Alba, the home of the non-human ursines, to gather technological intelligence. War unexpectedly erupts there, too, and Johnny and his native guide Linda Connor must across Alba's icy wastelands. More than arctic cold and gunfire imperil their lives when they get entangled in a conspiracy that may change the course of the war. Are Linda and Johnny wily enough to outfox their enemies? The Ice War is a dieselpunk thriller is set in an alternate history inspired by the technology and aesthetics of the interwar era. The protagonists face serious moral issues during their flight. There is no easy way out and no one escapes a war zone unhurt. Swedish science fiction author Patrik Centerwall's assessment of the story: "The Ice War is a well-written, swift-moving and exciting adventure that touches several interesting issues of morals and philosophy. Anders Blixt does not make matters easy, neither for the novel's characters nor for the readers." The Ice War is partially based on the author's experience as in multinational peace-making operations in the Balkans in the 1990s and Afghanistan after 9/11.
Download or read book Alba Reborn written by Frew and published by Dog Ear Publishing. This book was released on 2011-10 with total page 504 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Alba Reborn is the story of a Celtic girl and boy, Soillse and Firinn, in first century Scotland or Alba. He is destined to become high king of the Isle of Skye and she a renown healer. Book One is the tale of their growing years: both drawn to the druid, Coillore, and his teachings about the realms of light of the Otherworld. On a hidden path of love, Coillore shows them how ancient fears from their fall from heaven are creating the sufferings in their lives, how to heal these, and achieve their highest dreams. Every reader can do the same. Contained in Coillore's lessons are the planes of the cosmic Diamond Core, the seventh heaven and its consciousness of enlightenment. The regents of the Celtic pantheon and the hidden streams of Celtic cosmology are explained in rich detail, the result of twenty-five years of painstaking meditation and research by the author. This book is a call to the people of Alba to raise the standard of love and renew their ancient spiritual traditions. But it is equally a call to all people on earth to move through the transformation process illustrated in the lives of Firinn and Soillse, to heal all inner fear, and thus create heaven on earth. Dr. Frew is a clinical psychologist and energy healer, whose love of Alba and Celtic tradition has taken her on a lifelong journey of discovery. Through inner druid guides and years of meditation, she has unearthed information she was unable to find in an exhaustive search for answers in the outside world. She believes these teachings to be accurate, and they have radically opened her awareness to the constant love of God/Goddess and the spirit world. In the future, Dr. Frew envisions building a spiritual community in Alba that embodies these teachings, and she hopes every person on earth comes to know the exquisite tenderness of the One Beloveds."

Book Synopsis Beckett Re-Membered by : James Carney
Download or read book Beckett Re-Membered written by James Carney and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2011-11-15 with total page 285 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Beckett Re-Membered showcases some of the most recent scholarship on the Irish novelist, poet, and playwright, Samuel Beckett. As well as essays on Beckett’s literary output, it contains a section on the philosophical dimension of his work – an important addition, given the profound impact Beckett has had on European philosophy. Rather than attempting to circumscribe Beckett scholarship by advocating a theoretical position or thematic focus, Beckett Re-Membered reflects the exciting and diverse range of critical interventions that Beckett studies continues to generate. In the nineteen essays that comprise this volume, every major articulation of Beckett’s work is addressed, with the result that it offers an unusually comprehensive survey of its target author. Beckett Re-Membered will appeal to any reader who is interested in provocative responses to one of the twentieth century’s most important European writers.
