Zuerst werden die Parameter und Rahmenbedingungen der Personalauswahl und wichtige grundlegende Informationen vorgestellt. Außerdem wird angesprochen, welche Disparitäten zwischen Praxis und Theorie existieren, sowie relevante Faktoren identifiziert, welche dafür verantwortlich sind. Im Hauptteil der Arbeit wird grundlegende Literatur zur Akzeptanz vorgestellt und es werden aktuelle wissenschaftliche Befunde hinzugezogen, um ein akkurates Bild der Akzeptanzbeurteilung im Auswahlprozess darzustellen. Anschließend wird die Messung der Akzeptanz besprochen und mit dem Ziel die Akzeptanzurteile der Bewerbenden bei den Verfahren und ihren jeweiligen Variationen darzustellen, werden danach, dem gegenwärtigen wissenschaftlichen Forschungsstand entsprechend, Studienergebnisse zusammengetragen. Abschließend wird die Bedeutung dieser Literaturanalyse für die Praxis herausgearbeitet und diskutiert.

Book excerpt: Literature pertaining to prediction of enlisted military job performance, 1952-1980, was reviewed. The review excluded studies in which training performance or reenlistment is the criterion. Aptitude was the most frequently used predictor and supervisor ratings the most frequent criterion. Relationships among classes of criteria and between predictors and criteria were examined. Major classes of criteria were job proficiency, job performance, and suitability to military service. The following conclusions are supported by the review: (1) For the great majority of jobs, job knowledge tests appear to provide the most practical method of objective measurement; (2) Because job sample tests are very expensive to construct and administer, their use is not practical unless the job is extremely costly or critical; and (3) Use of supervisors' ratings as the only measure of job performance should be restricted to jobs for which motivation, social skill, and response to situational requirements are the only attributes worth measuring. Two promising approaches to improved prediction are the selective use of miniaturized training and assessment centers and the use of self-paced training performance as a predictor. The review includes abstracts of the studies that were reviewed.

The job applicant seeking to join the organization or the employee being considered for promotion or reassignment was typically given little attention from the designers of employment or assessment systems. They believed that this imbalance had several negative implications: 1. Organizational selection and assessment appeared to be the principal area within work and organizational psychology that had forgotten a basic tenet of the profession of psychology, namely, that the welfare of the individual is paramount. 2. A lack of concern for the individuals who were being assessed could result in additional criticisms of psychological assessment in employment settings. 3. The acceptability of selection and assessment devices and systems may impact in (largely) unknown ways on the decisions of individuals to apply for jobs or transfers, thus affecting the selection ratio and potential utility of such systems. 4. Individual reactions to the characteristics of assessment and selection devices could affect the accuracy of the information obtained about those individuals, adversely affecting the reliability and validity of resulting personnel decisions. Informally discussing these concerns with their professional colleagues, the editors found that others were similarly troubled. Their next response was to organize a three day conference bringing together a number of researchers in applied psychology to present papers and participate in discussions related to balancing individual and organizational needs in selection and assessment. Revisions of the papers presented at this conference form the core of this volume.
