Book Synopsis Aerial Robotic Workers by : George Nikolakopoulos
Download or read book Aerial Robotic Workers written by George Nikolakopoulos and published by Butterworth-Heinemann. This book was released on 2022-11-05 with total page 282 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Aerial Robotic Workers: Design, Modeling, Control, Vision and Their Applications provides an in-depth look at both theory and practical applications surrounding the Aerial Robotic Worker (ARW). Emerging ARWs are fully autonomous flying robots that can assist human operations through their agile performance of aerial inspections and interaction with the surrounding infrastructure. This book addresses all the fundamental components of ARWs, starting with the hardware and software components and then addressing aspects of modeling, control, perception of the environment, and the concept of aerial manipulators, cooperative ARWs, and direct applications. The book includes sample codes and ROS-based tutorials, enabling the direct application of the chapters and real-life examples with platforms already existing in the market. Addresses the fundamental problems of UAVs with the ability of utilizing aerial tools in the fields of modeling, control, navigation, cooperation, vision and interaction with the environment Includes open source codes and libraries, providing a complete set of information for readers to start their experimentation with UAVs, and more specifically, ARWs Provides multiple, real-life examples and codes in MATLAB and ROS

Book Synopsis Forestry Applications of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) 2019 by : Alessandro Matese
Download or read book Forestry Applications of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) 2019 written by Alessandro Matese and published by MDPI. This book was released on 2020-11-23 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are new platforms that have been increasingly used in the last few years for forestry applications that benefit from the added value of flexibility, low cost, reliability, autonomy, and capability of timely provision of high-resolution data. The main adopted image-based technologies are RGB, multispectral, and thermal infrared. LiDAR sensors are becoming commonly used to improve the estimation of relevant plant traits. In comparison with other permanent ecosystems, forests are particularly affected by climatic changes due to the longevity of the trees, and the primary objective is the conservation and protection of forests. Nevertheless, forestry and agriculture involve the cultivation of renewable raw materials, with the difference that forestry is less tied to economic aspects and this is reflected by the delay in using new monitoring technologies. The main forestry applications are aimed toward inventory of resources, map diseases, species classification, fire monitoring, and spatial gap estimation. This Special Issue focuses on new technologies (UAV and sensors) and innovative data elaboration methodologies (object recognition and machine vision) for applications in forestry.

Book Synopsis Airborne Performance Measurement Assessment: Low Altitude Tactical Formation in Two Operating Environments by : Joseph C. DeMaio
Download or read book Airborne Performance Measurement Assessment: Low Altitude Tactical Formation in Two Operating Environments written by Joseph C. DeMaio and published by . This book was released on 1980 with total page 17 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A method was developed to assess pilot performance in low altitude tactical formation (LATF) and to relate overall performance to performance on subtasks necessary to mission success. The method was used to evaluate the performance of 28 pilots assigned to an operational A-7 squadron. The method was found to provide a consistent measure of pilot performance and to reveal the importance of certain pilot skills to the LATF task. Performance ratings were obtained under routine operating conditions and under conditions of simulated combat. Differences were obtained in performance ratings under the two conditions. Implications for currency training were discussed.
Book Synopsis Computational Electromagnetics and Its Applications by : Thomas G. Campbell
Download or read book Computational Electromagnetics and Its Applications written by Thomas G. Campbell and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains the proceedings of the first ICASE/LaRC Work shop on Computational Electromagnetics and Its Applications conducted by the Institute for Computer Applications in Science and Engineering and NASA Langley Research Center. We had several goals in mind when we decided, jointly with the Elec tromagnetics Research Branch, to organize this workshop on Computa tional Electromagnetics ( CEM). Among our goals were a desire to obtain an overview of the current state of CEM, covering both algorithms and ap plications and their effect on NASA's activities in this area. In addition, we wanted to provide an attractive setting for computational scientists with expertise in other fields, especially computational fluid dynamics (CFD), to observe the algorithms and tools of CEM at work. Our expectation was that scientists from both fields would discover mutually beneficial inter connections and relationships. Another goal was to learn of progress in solution algorithms for electromagnetic optimization and design problems; such problems make extensive use of field solvers and computational effi ciency is at a premium. To achieve these goals we assembled the renowned group of speakers from academia and industry whose talks are contained in this volume. The papers are printed in the same order in which the talks were pre sented at the meeting. The first paper is an overview of work currently being performed in the Electromagnetic Research Branch at the Langley Research Center.
