Book excerpt: An investigation to determine the influence of air liquefaction on wind tunnel data was conducted at Mach numbers 5 and 8 in the von Karman Gas Dynamics Facility Wind Tunnels. The test included a determination of air liquefaction effects both on test section flow properties and on the aerodynamic characteristics of the AGARD Calibration Model B. The effective test section Mach numbers obtained from pitot and static pressure measurements were in agreement with theoretical estimates. The force and pressure data indicate that reliable test results can be obtained at temperatures belowe the theoretical saturation point provided accurate base pressure data are not required.

This book was released on 1964 with total page 42 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The AGARD Calibration Model B, with and without wings, was tested at a nominal Mach number of 10. Force and moment coefficients were obtained over a range of pitch and yaw angles from -5 to 15.5 degrees with a Reynolds number range from 1.10 x 10 to the 6th power to 9.80 x 10 to the 6th power, based on model length. The lift-curve slope, aerodynamic center, and drag coefficients show excellent correlation with data from other tunnels at various Mach numbers. (Author).

This book was released on 1960 with total page 39 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Body-wing and body-only configurations of the AGARD Calibration Model B were tested at a nominal Mach number of 8 based on model length. Forces and moments for both configurations were obtained from internal, strain gage balance measurements. Also, force and moment coefficients for the body-only configuration were obtained by numerical integration of pressure distributions. The lift-curve slope and aerodynamic center obtained at Mach 8 compared favorably with data obtained from other tunnels at various Mach numbers. The only significant Reynolds number effect was the high drag coefficient at the lower Reynolds numbers.

This book was released on 1970 with total page 40 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A test was conducted to determine the aerodynamic characteristics of the AGARD Model B calibration model at Mach numbers from 0.2 to 1.0 for angles of attack from -4 to +24 deg. The tunnel blockage of the model at zero angle of attack was 0.15 percent. The data showed no evidence of tunnel interference and are considered to be interference free. The data agreed with other published data obtained at Mach numbers above 0.7. The curves of lift coefficient and pitching moment were found to be nonlinear near zero lift at Mach numbers below 1.0. Therefore, the lift curve slope and the neutral-point location should be used with caution when comparing data. (Author).

This book was released on 1957 with total page 29 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An investigation to determine the lift, drag, and pitching-moment characteristics of AGARD calibration models A and B has been made at Mach numbers 3.98 and 4.98 in the 12 inch supersonic wind tunnel (Tunnel E-1) of the Gas Dynamics Facility (AEDC). The data for Model A indicate that the lift-curve slope at zero lift is greater at Mach number 4.98. At each Mach number and zero lift, the drag coefficients varied as the Reynolds number increased; the total and forebody drag decreased slightly in the low Reynolds number range and then increased in the higher Reynolds number range; and the base drag increased. For Model B, the forebody and and base-drag coeffients at each Mach number varied with Reynolds number in a manner predicted by the theory of Crocco and Lees.

Download or read book Force Tests of an AGARD Calibration Model B at M written by Jack D. Coats and published by . This book was released on 1960 with total page 60 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An AGARD Calibration Model B body-wing configuration was tested in the 40-inch supersonic wind tunnel (Tunnel A) of the Von Karman Gas Dynamics Facility. The lift and pitching-moment characteristics of the 5.8 inch-diameter model used in these tests are in good agreement with results obtained earlier on a 2-inch model tested in the 40-inch tunnel and a 1.4-inch model tested in the 12-inch tunnel at the von Karman Facility. The forebody drag coefficients for the 5.8-inch-diameter model are in general lower than those for the smaller models. Variations in Reynolds number were not of sufficient magnitude to produce turbulent flow over more than 55 percent of the body length and produced only small variations in the drag coefficients with no effect on the lift and pitching-moment coefficients. The rates of change of the location of boundary layer transition with Reynolds number were identical to those determined in the 12-inch tunnel and were influenced by the presence of the wing.
