Book Synopsis La pobreza del agua by : Rodrigo Marín Ramírez

Book Synopsis Agua y ciudades en América Latina by : Ismael Aguilar Barajas
Download or read book Agua y ciudades en América Latina written by Ismael Aguilar Barajas and published by Inter-American Development Bank. This book was released on 2018-05-18 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis Globalized Water by : Graciela Schneier-Madanes
Download or read book Globalized Water written by Graciela Schneier-Madanes and published by Springer Science & Business. This book was released on 2014-05-01 with total page 303 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Globalized Water presents a compilation of voices that forms a unique scientific exploration of contemporary water management models and governance issues. The book describes the water paradox—how a local resource has become a global product—and the implications of this in how we identify challenges and make policy in the water sector. Over the last 20 years, the foundations of local and national water systems have been rocked by a wave of changes. The authors in this book, experts in a wide range of disciplines, address the resulting debates and issues: water as a commodity and patrimony, technological rent, liberalization and privatization, the continuing evolution of water management and policy at the European level, decision making and stakeholder participation, conflict and consensus, and the inevitable growth of counterpowers at the local and international levels, promoted by the advocates of sustainable development. The selected case studies are from Europe (primarily France but also Spain, Germany, the United Kingdom, and Portugal), Latin America (Argentina, Bolivia), the United States, Lebanon, and India. From this diverse collection of comparative perspectives and research methods, Globalized Water seeks to advance interdisciplinary research, contributing to a new and dynamic role for social sciences and governance on water.

Download or read book Poverty and Social Developments in Peru, 1994-1997 written by and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 1999 with total page 96 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Where, when, and how much to invest in wastewater treatment is a policy decision that presents many challenges and is not properly addressed in most situations worldwide. The most common situations are, unfortunately, those in which no treatment is provided at all... The integration of wastewater management and pollution control interventions and policies within the broader water resources management policy are essential for achieving the efficient use of the scarce resource available. With that in mind, this paper has three objectives: * Emphasize the need for systematic evaluation of wastewater management actions and investments as part of any water resources management initiative. * Define the conceptual framework that should guide the analysis process. * Identify and explore techniques appropriate to this analysis. The ultimate purpose of the paper is to provide a general approach to developing and implementing wastewater management interventions. Its scope is determined by two main considerations: (i) the need to incorporate the general principles that determine water resources management policies into the design and selection of wastewater management and pollution control interventions; and (ii) the need to address water quality problems at the appropriate geographical scale.

Book Synopsis Management of Water Resources in Protected Areas by : Hermes Farfán González
Download or read book Management of Water Resources in Protected Areas written by Hermes Farfán González and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-14 with total page 353 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Natural ecosystems are heavily dependent on water, as it is essential to the development of life. The ecology and landscape play an important role in the quality and availability of water. It is no coincidence that exceptional hydrological phenomena are found in protected areas. Such is the case with, for example, the geothermic occurrences (principally, geysers) in America's Yellowstone National Park , the oldest park in the world. The Ramsar wetlands (where the ecosystem’s dependency on water is strongly evident), The Iguaçu Falls (on the border of Argentina and Brazil), or the Zapata Swamp (the largest of its kind on the Caribbean island of Cuba) further exemplify this point. However, in many cases, the conservation strategies for hydraulic resources in protected areas are ignored, or simply deprived of the attention they require. There are many types of suitable management strategies for planning and protecting our valuable treasures. Hydraulic resource management in protected areas is something that must not be separated from these conservation measures. The first Symposium for the Management of Hydraulic Resources in Protected Areas was intended to be a framework of communication about experiences with water resource management in protected areas. Advances in research and possible solutions to the problems within these areas were discussed. The contributions in this proceedings volume are grouped under seven main themes: Purification and reuse of wastewater in rural communities; Impact of public use on water resources; Vulnerability and risks associated with aquifers, Design and management water resources in protected areas; Research and monitoring of water resources in protected areas; Water and its importance as a source of renewable energy in protected spaces; and Geodiversity and conservation of areas with hydraulic heritage.
