Book Synopsis Macmillan Directory of UK Business Information Sources by : James Tudor
Download or read book Macmillan Directory of UK Business Information Sources written by James Tudor and published by Springer. This book was released on 1992-09-15 with total page 443 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The objective of this publication is to provide a 'one stop' guide to business information, insofar as that is possible within the confines of a useable book. It aims to give guidance on both the published and organisational sources relevant to the needs of the non-professional business researcher and provides a listing of 'worthwhile' references and contacts. As previously, the Directory is organised so that both published sources and information centres are grouped together under their applicable Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) number and heading. This new edition also incorporates NACE classification and correlation tables. The second category again includes those UK and pan-national organisations which focus on specific, discrete industry sectors, which limits the number of organisational sources in the directory to those that are 'most worthwhile'.

Book Synopsis Lancashire and Cheshire from AD1540 by : C. B. Phillips
Download or read book Lancashire and Cheshire from AD1540 written by C. B. Phillips and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-06-23 with total page 444 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This series, fully illustrated with maps and half-tones, is written for general readers as well as the student. In illuminating the anonymous lives of our predecessors it will, when complete, substantially enrich our understanding of the many histories which together make up the history of England. This authoritative volume surveys the modern history of the counties of Lancashire, Merseyside, Greater Manchester and Cheshire. In 1540 this was a backward area, poor, underpopulated and conservative. During the seventeenth and early eighteenth century the spread of the first cottage industries to the mills and the mines transformed the region into one of the engines of Britain's nineteenth-century greatness. The causes, the costs and the consequences of that transformation are vividly portrayed in this very readable text. Offers a succinct account and analysis of the first region to experience the developed factory system. Discusses the rise, dominance and decline of the region which has parallels across the country and the world. Provides essential background text for the students of local history. Assumes no previous knowledge of the region.

Download or read book Farm Incomes, Wealth and Agricultural Policy written by Berkeley Hill and published by CABI. This book was released on 2012 with total page 327 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) has been supporting the incomes of the European Union's agricultural community for half a century. Despite this, there is still no official system in place to track the economic wellbeing of farmers and their families. This book examines the evidence on the overall wealth of farming households, and concludes that in nearly all member states, they are not generally a poor sector of society, with disposable incomes that are similar to, or exceed, the national average. In this updated edition, the author discusses the latest evidence, makes recommendations for gathering better information, and considers the implications for the CAP as we enter the second decade of the 21st century.

Book Synopsis Re/Thinking Chickens: The Discourse around Chicken Farming in British Newspapers and Campaigners’ Magazines, 1982 - 2016 by : Elena Lazutkaite
Download or read book Re/Thinking Chickens: The Discourse around Chicken Farming in British Newspapers and Campaigners’ Magazines, 1982 - 2016 written by Elena Lazutkaite and published by Vernon Press. This book was released on 2020-10-06 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Re/Thinking Chickens: The Discourse around Chicken Farming in British Newspapers and Campaigners’ Magazines, 1982–2016" has major social relevance as it focuses on one of the most forgotten and yet most exploited farmed animals, chickens, who now have a combined mass exceeding that of all other birds on Earth. Dr Elena Lazutkaitė demonstrates that the planet’s most numerous birds, with a population of 23 billion at any one time, are trivialised in public discourse. This book applies the analytical framework of Critical Discourse Analysis in combination with corpus linguistics tools to present a detailed empirical case study. In total, the study corpus comprises 1754 texts published over the period of 34 years in broadsheets The Guardian and The Daily Telegraph, tabloids the Daily Mirror and the Daily Mail (including their Sunday editions Sunday Mirror and Mail on Sunday) and magazines produced by animal advocacy groups Compassion In World Farming and Animal Aid. This book will be of particular interest to university students of critical animal studies, human-animal studies, discourse studies, cultural studies, communication studies, sociology, (eco)linguistics, in addition to animal advocacy groups and media practitioners.
