Growing conditions were generally good to excellent over most of the farming areas in August. Planting activity progressed favor ably. Rains resulting from hurricanes, cool fronts and a tropical storm slowed plantings in September. High winds damaged crops but little acreage was lost when Hurricane David moved up the east coast in early September. Planting and harvesting activities were interrupted by showers in October and November as numerous cold fronts moved across the state.
