Book Synopsis The Maintenance Costs of Aging Aircraft by : Matthew C. Dixon
Download or read book The Maintenance Costs of Aging Aircraft written by Matthew C. Dixon and published by Rand Corporation. This book was released on 2006 with total page 117 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The U.S. Air Force is grappling with the challenge of aging fleets and the optimal time to replace them. This monograph examines commercial aviation data to draw inferences about aging aircraft that may be relevant to the Air Force. It focuses on "aging effects"-i.e., how aircraft maintenance costs change as aircraft grow older. Although commercial aircraft clearly differ from military aircraft, the aging-effect estimates might help the Air Force to project changing maintenance costs over time.

Book Synopsis Structural Integrity of Aging Airplanes by : Satya N. Atluri
Download or read book Structural Integrity of Aging Airplanes written by Satya N. Atluri and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 492 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The emergence of civil aviation as a means of mass transportation is primarily due to the large scale construction of jet airplanes in the past 30 years or so. A large number of these jet airplanes is currently operating at or beyond their designed fatigue lives. Thus, the structural integrity of these aging airplanes has become an issue of major concern to all nations of the world. To bring the needed technical and research focus on the issues involved in the life-enhancement and safety-assurance of aging airplanes, the Federal Aviation Administration sponsored a symposium in Atlanta, GA, USA, during 20-22 March 1990. This symposium, under the title "International Symposium on Structural Integrity of Aging Airplanes· was organized jointly be the Georgia Institute of Technology (Center for Computational Mechanics) and the Transportation Systems Center (Cambridge, MA) of the U.S. Department of Transportation. Industrial and academic experts from several countries in North America, Europe and Asia, were invited to discuss their experiences and proposed solutions. This monograph contains the original papers that represent the expanded and edited versions of the talks presented at this symposium. This book aims to bring the collective experience, from across the world, with problems related to the structural integrity of aging airplanes to the attention of the professional and research community at large - in the hope that it may stimulate further fruitful research on this important topic of global concern.

Book Synopsis Airworthiness: An Introduction to Aircraft Certification by : Filippo De Florio
Download or read book Airworthiness: An Introduction to Aircraft Certification written by Filippo De Florio and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2006-08-30 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Understanding airworthiness is central to maintaining and operating aircraft safely. While no book can replace the published FAR/JAR documentation for airworthiness, this unique guide provides readers with a single reference to understanding and interpreting the airworthiness requirements of the ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organisation), FAA (the US Federal Aviation Authority) and EASA (European Aircraft Safety Agency). Setting these requirements in a real-world context, the book is an essential contribution to the safety management system of anyone involved in the design, maintenance and operation of aircraft for business or pleasure.Key topics covered include: • Considerations of airworthiness standards for all classes, including large and small aircraft, rotor craft, gliders and unmanned aircraft• JAR/FAR 21 • Type certification of aircraft, engines, and propellers and the type certification process• Parts and appliances approval • Joint certifications and national certifications • Special classes of certificates of airworthiness • Airworthiness and flight operations*The only airworthiness guide available: a real contribution to understanding flight safety*Covers European and US requirements and helps anyone involved in the manufacture, flying and maintenance of aircraft to understand this complex yet essential topic*No aircraft can fly without the correct certificate of airworthiness

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many of the aircraft that form the backbone of the U.S. Air Force operational fleet are 25 years old or older. A few of these will be replaced with new aircraft, but many are expected to remain in service an additional 25 years or more. This book provides a strategy to address the technical needs and priorities associated with the Air Force's aging airframe structures. It includes a detailed summary of the structural status of the aging force, identification of key technical issues, recommendations for near-term engineering and management actions, and prioritized near-term and long-term research recommendations.
