This book was released on 2001 with total page 47 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The control of outdoor air intake rates in mechanically ventilated bldgs. based on indoor carbon dioxide (CO2) levels, often referred to as CO2 demand controlled ventilation (DCV), has the potential for reducing the energy consumption assoc. with bldg. ventilation in commercial and institutional bldgs. CO2 DCV has been studied for 20+ years, but questions still remain re: the actual energy savings potential as a function of climate, ventilation system features, and bldg. occupancy. In addition, questions exist as to the indoor air quality impacts of the approach and the best way to implement CO2 DCV in a given bldg. This report presents a state-of-the-art review of CO2 DCV technology and application incl. discussion of the concept and its application, and a literature review.

Download or read book HVAC Design Manual for Hospitals and Clinics written by ASHRAE (Firm) and published by Ashrae. This book was released on 2013 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Health care HVAC systems serve facilities in which the population is uniquely vulnerable and exposed to an elevated risk of health, fire, and safety hazard. These heavily regulated, high-stakes facilities undergo continuous maintenance, verification, inspection, and recertification, typically operate 24/7, and are owner occupied for long life. The HVAC systems in health care facilities must be carefully designed to be installed, operated and maintained in coordination with specialized buildings services, including emergency and normal power, plumbing and medical gas systems, automatic transport, fire protections and a myriad of IT systems, all within a limited building envelope.

Book Synopsis Underfloor Air Distribution: A Comprehensive Guide to Modern HVAC Systems by : Charles Nehme
Download or read book Underfloor Air Distribution: A Comprehensive Guide to Modern HVAC Systems written by Charles Nehme and published by Charles Nehme. This book was released on with total page 76 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The growing demand for energy-efficient, sustainable, and flexible building systems has reshaped how we design and operate modern workspaces. As a crucial component of contemporary HVAC systems, Underfloor Air Distribution (UFAD) technology offers an innovative approach to air delivery that can significantly enhance both occupant comfort and energy efficiency. This book aims to provide a comprehensive guide for engineers, architects, facility managers, and professionals involved in the design, installation, and operation of UFAD systems. Over the past few decades, the evolution of building technologies has prompted a shift away from traditional overhead air distribution systems. UFAD systems, with their ability to deliver conditioned air directly from the floor, are proving to be particularly effective in open-plan offices, data centers, and spaces requiring adaptive layouts. However, as with any system, the success of a UFAD system hinges on a thorough understanding of its design principles, proper installation, and ongoing maintenance. This book was born out of the need for a clear, structured resource that can guide professionals through the complexities of UFAD—from the fundamental science behind air distribution to the nuances of real-world system implementation. Each chapter builds upon the last, starting with an introduction to UFAD and gradually delving into more detailed aspects like airflow dynamics, commissioning, and sustainability. While UFAD offers numerous benefits, such as increased energy efficiency, improved thermal comfort, and design flexibility, these advantages are realized only when the system is designed and maintained with precision. Throughout this book, we will explore not only the technical aspects of UFAD systems but also practical insights and lessons learned from successful projects. I hope that this book serves as a valuable resource for professionals at all levels—whether you are considering UFAD for a new construction project or seeking ways to optimize an existing system. By understanding both the opportunities and challenges that UFAD presents, you can leverage this technology to create more comfortable, energy-efficient, and adaptable environments. Thank you for embarking on this journey into the world of UFAD. I am confident that, together, we can push the boundaries of what is possible in building design and air distribution.

Book Synopsis Advanced Energy Design Guide for Small to Medium Office Buildings by :
Download or read book Advanced Energy Design Guide for Small to Medium Office Buildings written by and published by American Society of Heating Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers. This book was released on 2011 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Advanced Energy Design Guide for Small to Medium Office Buildings is the first in a series designed to provide recommendations for achieving 50% energy savings over the minimum code requirements of ANSI/ASHRAE/IESNA Standard 90.1-2004. The energy savings target of 50% is the next step toward achieving a net zero energy building, which is defined as a building that, on an annual basis, draws from outside resources equal or less energy than it provides using on-site renewable energy sources. ANSI/ASHRAE/IESNA Standard 90.1-2004 provides the fixed reference point and serves as a consistent baseline and scale for all of the 50% Advanced Energy Design Guides. This Guide focuses on small to medium office buildings up to 100,000 ft2. Office buildings include a wide range of office types and related activities such as administrative, professional, government, bank or other financial services, and medical offices without medical diagnostic equipment. These facilities typically include all or some of the following space types: open plan and private offices, conference and meeting spaces, corridors and transition areas, lounge and recreation areas, lobbies, active storage areas, restrooms, mechanical and electrical rooms, stairways, and other spaces. This Guide does not cover specialty spaces such as data centers, which are more typical in large office buildings. The specific energy-saving recommendations in this Guide are summarized in a single table for each climate zone and will allow contractors, consulting engineers, architects, and designers to easily achieve advanced levels of energy savings without detailed energy modeling or analyses. In addition, this Guide provides a greater emphasis on integrated design as a necessary component in achieving 50% energy savings and devotes an entire chapter to integrated design strategies that can be used by teams who do not wish to follow the specific energy saving recommendations.

Book Synopsis Modeling and Control in Air-conditioning Systems by : Ye Yao
Download or read book Modeling and Control in Air-conditioning Systems written by Ye Yao and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-10-01 with total page 496 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book investigates the latest modeling and control technologies in the context of air-conditioning systems. Firstly, it introduces the state-space method for developing dynamic models of all components in a central air-conditioning system. The models are primarily nonlinear and based on the fundamental principle of energy and mass conservation, and are transformed into state-space form through linearization. The book goes on to describe and discuss the state-space models with the help of graph theory and the structure-matrix theory. Subsequently, virtual sensor calibration and virtual sensing methods (which are very useful for real system control) are illustrated together with a case study. Model-based predictive control and state-space feedback control are applied to air-conditioning systems to yield better local control, while the air-side synergic control scheme and a global optimization strategy based on the decomposition-coordination method are developed so as to achieve energy conservation in the central air-conditioning system. Lastly, control strategies for VAV systems including total air volume control and trim & response static pressure control are investigated in practice.
