Book excerpt: The objective of the Advanced Detection, Isolation, and Accommodation Program is to improve the overall demonstrated reliability of digital electronic control systems for turbine engines. For this purpose, an algorithm was developed which detects, isolates, and accommodates sensor failures by using analytical redundancy. The performance of this algorithm was evaluated on a real time engine simulation and was demonstrated on a full scale F100 turbofan engine. The real time implementation of the algorithm is described. The implementation used state-of-the-art microprocessor hardware and software, including parallel processing and high order language programming. Delaat, John C. and Merrill, Walter C. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Control and Dynamic Systems: Advances in Theory in Applications, Volume 33: Advances in Aerospace Systems Dynamics and Control Systems, Part 3 of 3 deals with significant advances in technologies which support the development of aerospace systems. It also presents several algorithms and computational techniques for complex aerospace systems. This book first presents a survey of analytical redundancy techniques to improve turbine engine control systems. It then discusses techniques for remotely piloted vehicles; control configured vehicles (CCV) techniques; aircraft handling; pilot-vehicle dynamics; and optimal control techniques for complex aerospace structure. This text is an excellent reference for research and professional workers in the field who want a comprehensive source of techniques with significant applied implications.

Download or read book Parallel Processing for Jet Engine Control written by Haydn A. Thompson and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 286 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Parallel Processing Applications for Jet Engine Control is a volume in the new Advances in Industrial Control series, edited by Professor M.J. Grimble and Dr. M.A. Johnson of the Industrial Control Unit, University of Strathclyde. The book describes the mapping and load balancing of gas turbine engine and controller simulations onto arrays of transputers. It compares the operating system for transputers and the Uniform System upon the Butterfly Plus computer. The problem of applying formal methods to parallel asychronous processors is addressed, implementing novel fault tolerant systems to meet real-time flight control requirements. The book presents real-time closed-loop results highlighting the advantages and disadvantages of Occam and the transputer. Readers will find that this book provides valuable material for researchers in both academia and the aerospace industry.
Book Synopsis Fault Detection, Supervision and Safety for Technical Processes 1991 by : B. Freyermuth
Download or read book Fault Detection, Supervision and Safety for Technical Processes 1991 written by B. Freyermuth and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-05-23 with total page 647 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These Proceedings provide a general overview as well as detailed information on the developing field of reliability and safety of technical processes in automatically controlled processes. The plenary papers present the state-of-the-art and an overview in the areas of aircraft and nuclear power stations, because these safety-critical system domains possess the most highly developed fault management and supervision schemes. Additional plenary papers covered the recent developments in analytical redundancy. In total there are 95 papers presented in these Proceedings.

Book Synopsis Robust Model-Based Fault Diagnosis for Dynamic Systems by : Jie Chen
Download or read book Robust Model-Based Fault Diagnosis for Dynamic Systems written by Jie Chen and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 370 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is an increasing demand for dynamic systems to become more safe and reliable. This requirement extends beyond the normally accepted safety-critical systems of nuclear reactors and aircraft where safety is paramount important, to systems such as autonomous vehicles and fast railways where the system availability is vital. It is clear that fault diagnosis (including fault detection and isolation, FDI) has been becoming an important subject in modern control theory and practice. For example, the number of papers on FDI presented in many control-related conferences has been increasing steadily. The subject of fault detection and isolation continues to mature to an established field of research in control engineering. A large amount of knowledge on model-based fault diagnosis has been ac cumulated through the literature since the beginning of the 1970s. However, publications are scattered over many papers and a few edited books. Up to the end of 1997, there is no any book which presents the subject in an unified framework. The consequence of this is the lack of "common language", dif ferent researchers use different terminology. This problem has obstructed the progress of model-based FDI techniques and has been causing great concern in research community. Many survey papers have been published to tackle this problem. However, a book which presents the materials in a unified format and provides a comprehensive foundation of model-based FDI is urgently needed.
