Book Synopsis Gas Adsorption Equilibria by : Jürgen U. Keller
Download or read book Gas Adsorption Equilibria written by Jürgen U. Keller and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-06-23 with total page 430 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is intended to present for the first time experimental methods to measure equilibria states of pure and mixed gases being adsorbed on the surface of solid materials. It has been written for engineers and scientists from industry and academia who are interested in adsorption based gas separation processes and/or in using gas adsorption for characterization of the porosity of solid materials. This book is the result of a fruitful collaboration of a theoretician (JUK) and an experimentalist (RS) over more than twelve years in the field of gas adsorption systems at the Institute of Fluid- and Thermodynamics (IFT) at the University of Siegen, Siegen, Germany. This collaboration resulted in the development of several new methods to measure not only pure gas adsorption, but gas mixture or coadsorption equilibria on inert porous solids. Also several new theoretical results could be achieved leading to new types of so-called adsorption isotherms based on the concepts of molecular association and – phenomenologically speaking – on that of thermodynamic phases of fractal dimension. Naturally, results of international collaboration of the authors over the years (1980-2000) also are included.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The rapid growth of interest in powders and their surface properties in many diverse industries prompted the writing of this book for those who have the need to make meaningful measurements without the benefit of years of experience. It is intended as an introduction to some of the elementary theory and experimental methods used to study the surface area, porosity and density of powders. Book Synopsis Handbook of Food Isotherms: Water Sorption Parameters For Food And Food Components by : Hector Iglesias
Download or read book Handbook of Food Isotherms: Water Sorption Parameters For Food And Food Components written by Hector Iglesias and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 361 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Handbook of Food Isotherms: Water Sorption Parameters for Food and Food Components is the first English handbook entirely devoted to water vapor sorption data of foods and food components. It contains more than 1,000 isotherms with the mathematical description of over 800 of these isotherms. The water sorption isotherms of foods show the equilibrium relationship between the moisture content of foods and the water activity at constant temperatures and pressures. Composed of three chapters, this book initially discusses the main types of changes in foods affected by water activity. It goes on describing the principal methods of water activity determination, namely, gravimetry, manometry, and hygrometry. Data presented as plots of moisture content versus water activity are given. The last chapter presents several mathematical equations for describing water sorption isotherms of food materials. It emphasizes a statistical analysis on fitting abilities of various two-parameter equations as applied to each experimental isotherm collected. It contains tables of parameters for mathematical description of food isotherms. Supplementary texts on nonlinear regression program used for determination of statistical parameters in this text are also provided.

Book Synopsis Physics and Chemistry of Interfaces by : Hans-Jürgen Butt
Download or read book Physics and Chemistry of Interfaces written by Hans-Jürgen Butt and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2003-11-07 with total page 382 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Serving as a general introduction to surface and interface science, this book focuses on essential concepts rather than specific details, on intuitive understanding rather than learning facts. The text reflects the fact that the physics and chemistry of surfaces is a diverse field of research and shows this in its Interdisciplinary conceptual design. Once the most important techniques and methods have been introduced, readers will be able to apply simple models to their own scientific problems. Furthermore, manifold high-end technological applications from surface technology, biotechnology, or microelectronics illustrate the basic scientific treatment. The authors address advanced students of chemistry, physics, materials science, chemical engineering and related subjects with a basic knowledge of natural sciences and mathematics, since the mathematical calculations are thoroughly explained and made comprehensible for the reader. As such, non-specialists in surface science who want to learn more about this important subject will also benefit from the book.
Book Synopsis Partition and Adsorption of Organic Contaminants in Environmental Systems by : Cary T. Chiou
Download or read book Partition and Adsorption of Organic Contaminants in Environmental Systems written by Cary T. Chiou and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2003-07-07 with total page 269 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Given the presence of a wide variety of contaminants in the environment, it is important to understand what drives a contaminant from one medium to another, as well as the manner and extent to which a contaminant associates with the different media or phases within a local environmental system. Partition and Adsorption of Organic Contaminants in Environmental Systems forms a comprehensive resource on the behavioral characteristics of contaminants so that appropriate strategies can be adopted to either prevent or minimize their adverse impacts on human welfare and natural resources. Cary Chiou’s far-reaching text depicts the processes by which nonionic organic contaminants are sorbed to natural biotic and abiotic substances. This book focuses on physical principles and system parameters that affect the contaminant uptake by soil from water, air, and other media; by fish from water; and by plants from soil and water. As contaminant uptake by natural organic substances is often predominantly a partition interaction, the partition characteristics in several solvent-water model mixtures are treated in detail to elucidate the relevant physicochemical parameters. The account of contaminant sorption to soils, fish, and plants is strengthened by companion chapters on: Fundamentals of solution theory Interphase partition equations Fundamentals of adsorption theory Vapor adsorption on mineral and carbonaceous solids No other single source in the field delivers as compelling a combination of background understanding and "state-of-the-science" comprehension of current issues. Ideally suited for a graduate-level environmental course, Partition and Adsorption of Organic Contaminants in Environmental Systems also serves as a technical guide to current and future research in the field.
