Book Synopsis AdS3/CFT2 and Holographic Entanglement Entropy by : Jie-qiang Wu
Download or read book AdS3/CFT2 and Holographic Entanglement Entropy written by Jie-qiang Wu and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2019-10-18 with total page 155 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on AdS3/CFT2, addressing different aspects of this correspondence in field theory and in gravity, including entanglement entropy, higher genus partition function, and conformal block. Holographic entanglement entropy is an important area in holographic and quantum information, which implies a deep relation between geometry and quantum entanglement. In this book, the authors use holographic entanglement entropy as a tool to investigate AdS3/CFT2. They study the entanglement entropy at high temperature in field theory and in holographics, and show that the results match each other in classical and one-loop order. In the AdS3/CFT2 system, they examine in detail the correspondence, exploring the higher genus partition function, entanglement entropy in a general system and conformal block, and they find good correspondence in field theory and gravity. The result strongly supports AdS3/CFT2 correspondence. In addition, they develop several important techniques in 2d CFT and 3d gravity, which also offer inspiration for other fields.
Book Synopsis Holographic Entanglement Entropy by : Mukund Rangamani
Download or read book Holographic Entanglement Entropy written by Mukund Rangamani and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-05-08 with total page 245 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a comprehensive overview of developments in the field of holographic entanglement entropy. Within the context of the AdS/CFT correspondence, it is shown how quantum entanglement is computed by the area of certain extremal surfaces. The general lessons one can learn from this connection are drawn out for quantum field theories, many-body physics, and quantum gravity. An overview of the necessary background material is provided together with a flavor of the exciting open questions that are currently being discussed. The book is divided into four main parts. In the first part, the concept of entanglement, and methods for computing it, in quantum field theories is reviewed. In the second part, an overview of the AdS/CFT correspondence is given and the holographic entanglement entropy prescription is explained. In the third part, the time-dependence of entanglement entropy in out-of-equilibrium systems, and applications to many body physics are explored using holographic methods. The last part focuses on the connection between entanglement and geometry. Known constraints on the holographic map, as well as, elaboration of entanglement being a fundamental building block of geometry are explained. The book is a useful resource for researchers and graduate students interested in string theory and holography, condensed matter and quantum information, as it tries to connect these different subjects linked by the common theme of quantum entanglement.

Book Synopsis From Gravity to Thermal Gauge Theories: The AdS/CFT Correspondence by : Eleftherios Papantonopoulos
Download or read book From Gravity to Thermal Gauge Theories: The AdS/CFT Correspondence written by Eleftherios Papantonopoulos and published by Springer. This book was released on 2011-03-27 with total page 433 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The AdS/CFT correspondence is a powerful tool in studying strongly coupled phenomena in gauge field theories, using results from a weakly coupled gravity background studied in the realm of string theory. AdS/CFT was first successfully applied to the study of phenomena such as the quark-gluon plasma produced in heavy ions collisions. Soon it was realized that its applicability can be extended, in a more phenomenological approach, to condensed matter systems and to systems described by fluid dynamics. The set of tutorial reviews in this volume is intended as an introduction to and survey of the principle of the AdS/CFT correspondence in its field/string theoretic formulation, its applicability to holographic QCD and to heavy ions collisions, and to give a first account of processes in fluid dynamics and condensed matter physics, which can be studied with the use of this principle. Written by leading researchers in the field and cast into the form of a high-level but approachable multi-author textbook, this volume will be of benefit to all postgraduate students, and newcomers from neighboring disciplines wishing to find a comprehensive guide for their future research.

Book Synopsis Black Hole Physics by : Daniel Grumiller
Download or read book Black Hole Physics written by Daniel Grumiller and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-11-07 with total page 431 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This textbook gradually introduces the reader to several topics related to black hole physics with a didactic approach. It starts with the most basic black hole solution, the Schwarzschild metric, and discusses the basic classical properties of black hole solutions as seen by different probes. Then it reviews various theorems about black hole properties as solutions to Einstein gravity coupled to matter fields, conserved charges associated with black holes, and laws of black hole thermodynamics. Next, it elucidates semiclassical and quantum aspects of black holes, which are relevant in ongoing and future research. The book is enriched with many exercises and solutions to assist in the learning. The textbook is designed for physics graduate students who want to start their research career in the field of black holes; postdocs who recently changed their research focus towards black holes and want to get up-to-date on recent and current research topics; advanced researchers intending to teach (or learn) basic and advanced aspects of black hole physics and the associated mathematical tools. Besides general relativity, the reader needs to be familiar with standard undergraduate physics, like thermodynamics, quantum mechanics, and statistical mechanics. Moreover, familiarity with basic quantum field theory in Minkowski space is assumed. The book covers the rest of the needed background material in the main text or the appendices.
Book Synopsis Lectures on Quantum Gravity by : Andres Gomberoff
Download or read book Lectures on Quantum Gravity written by Andres Gomberoff and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-05-30 with total page 357 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 2002 Pan-American Advanced Studies Institute School on Quantum Gravity was held at the Centro de Estudios Cientificos (CECS),Valdivia, Chile, January 4-14, 2002. The school featured lectures by ten speakers, and was attended by nearly 70 students from over 14 countries. A primary goal was to foster interaction and communication between participants from different cultures, both in the layman’s sense of the term and in terms of approaches to quantum gravity. We hope that the links formed by students and the school will persist throughout their professional lives, continuing to promote interaction and the essential exchange of ideas that drives research forward. This volume contains improved and updated versions of the lectures given at the School. It has been prepared both as a reminder for the participants, and so that these pedagogical introductions can be made available to others who were unable to attend. We expect them to serve students of all ages well.
Book Synopsis Higher Spin Gauge Theories by : Lars Brink
Download or read book Higher Spin Gauge Theories written by Lars Brink and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2016-11-01 with total page 403 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Symmetries play a fundamental role in physics. Non-Abelian gauge symmetries are the symmetries behind theories for massless spin-1 particles, while the reparametrization symmetry is behind Einstein's gravity theory for massless spin-2 particles. In supersymmetric theories these particles can be connected also to massless fermionic particles. Does Nature stop at spin-2 or can there also be massless higher spin theories. In the past strong indications have been given that such theories do not exist. However, in recent times ways to evade those constraints have been found and higher spin gauge theories have been constructed. With the advent of the AdS/CFT duality correspondence even stronger indications have been given that higher spin gauge theories play an important role in fundamental physics. All these issues were discussed at a recent international workshop in Singapore where the leading scientists in the field participated. This volume presents an up-to-date, detailed overview of the theories including its historic background, as well as the latest accomplishments in understanding the foundational properties of higher spin physics.
