Book excerpt: Enforcement of state Fire Prevention Regulations within a local community was time consuming. These regulations were also in the process of being rewritten and were incomplete. Research on existing standards and local codes which could be used as a basic for the local Fire Prevention code was conducted. After analysis of these codes, conflicts were identified with existing State Fire Prevention Regulations, State Laws, local departments and other state agencies. The ability to enforce a local Fire Prevention code without seeking criminal complaint was an obtainable goal. It was recommended to adopt a rewritten version of the Boston Fire Code. However, if State Fire Prevention Regulations were completed, consideration would be given to adopting these regulations as the local code.
