Download or read book Addicts at the Cross written by Larry Skrant and published by Aneko Press. This book was released on 2017-03-01 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Addicts at the Cross takes a bold, unabashed stance in stating that the Bible is true: If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed (John 8:36). The 9 steps will walk students to the cross where Christ sets the captives free. These steps aren’t magic, but a willing and determined pursuit of freedom through them will guide the student to a place where overcoming addiction is assured. Society tells us poverty, lack of education, and unemployment are the underlying causes of addiction. Though strong families and education are vital supports for a stable society as they help a person discover how to act and what to do, the roots of addiction develop and grow from “who” the person is. This 9 step study is designed to dredge up the soil of the addict's heart and uproot the underlying causes of addiction, thereby genuinely setting the addict free.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Christian 9 Step Program Addicts at the Cross takes a bold, unabashed stance in believing that what the Bible says is true. If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed (John 8:36). The nine steps have worked again and again. In fact, the only time the nine steps haven't worked is when an individual didn't sincerely want to deny himself, take up his cross, and follow Christ. The world tries to change people from the outside in. People are told that they fail because they grew up in dysfunctional homes or in a poor neighborhood, or because they lack education. However, highly educated, rich people also become addicts, are involved in heinous crimes, and fail in general. The world says addicts failed because they were unable to find work. Yet many men and women have good jobs and still end up in prison. Is it genetics? Some say that addicts have flawed genes or they were born that way, and as a result, they are permanently disabled. Out of all the excuses offered to us by the world, this is the saddest. A genetically flawed person may be beyond hope, but alcoholics can and do recover - they are not without hope. If we call sin what it is, then we have an opportunity to overcome that sin and be healed. If we call sin what it is, then we can accept what Christ did for us on the cross, we can be forgiven, and we can be changed.

Book Synopsis Keeping the Cross Central by : Don Wilkerson
Download or read book Keeping the Cross Central written by Don Wilkerson and published by Destiny Image Publishers. This book was released on 2021-04-01 with total page 101 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Teen Challenge, also known as Adult and Teen Challenge, was founded as an evangelistic outreach to drug addicts in Brooklyn, New York City. As a holistic Christian ministry with the life- changing message of the gospel, this faith-based rehabilitation program was created with the vision that God can redeem the whole person, starting on day one of the program. This unique approach has produced success rates of over 70% for those who complete the rehabilitation program. However, as Teen Challenge has grown worldwide, with over 1,400+ centers in 129 countries, some centers are now turning to secular methods in order to access government funding. As co-founder of Teen Challenge, Don Wilkerson raises a warning flag on this mission drift: the power of the Cross, which brings about a changed life, must be the priority in treating drug addiction; if the Cross is not central to the mission of any Teen Challenge center, then it is not worthy of using the name Teen Challenge. The ministry must never lose its vision and focus in bringing men and women to Christthrough the gospel and discipleshipand stay faithful to the original mission which the founders stood upon.

Book Synopsis Helping Others Overcome Addictions by : Steve McVey
Download or read book Helping Others Overcome Addictions written by Steve McVey and published by Harvest House Publishers. This book was released on 2012-08-01 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Does Christianity have an answer for addiction? As longtime pastor Mike Quarles’s alcoholism worsened over eight years, churches and Christians referred him to treatment, 12-Step programs, therapy...nothing worked. Steve McVey, also a pastor, repeatedly dished out the same advice Mike received, with similarly poor results... ...Until, in their frustration, God led them back to basic, addiction-breaking truths of His Word. The authors explain these for readers who want to help someone or who struggle themselves, because freedom from addiction is found only when Christians fully believe what God says about their identity move beyond the 12-Step concept of inescapable “addict identity” stop harboring unforgiveness, get radically right with God, and dwell in who they are in Christ, which excludes engaging in addictive behaviors as a lifestyle Material on codependency is included, as is information on implementing recovery/support groups for those leaving addiction and starting to live in God’s glorious freedom.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on the similarities and differences between substance and non-substance addictions. It discusses in detail the mechanisms, diagnosis and treatment of substance and non-substance addictions, and addresses selected prospects that will shape future studies on addiction. Addiction is a global problem that costs millions of lives tremendous damage year after year. There are mainly two types of addition: substance addiction (e.g., nicotine, alcohol, cannabis, heroin, stimulants, etc.) and non-substance addiction (e.g., gambling, computer gaming, Internet, etc.). Based on existing evidence, both types of addiction produce negative impacts on individuals’ physical, mental, social and financial well-being, and share certain common mechanisms, which involve a dysfunction of the neural reward system and specific gene transcription factors. However, there are also key differences between these two types of addiction. Covering these aspects systematically, the book will provide researchers and graduate students alike a better understanding of drug and behavioral addictions.

Download or read book David Wilkerson written by Gary Wilkerson and published by HarperChristian + ORM. This book was released on 2014-09-02 with total page 291 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How did one man's unshakable faith shape the future of thousands struggling to break free from the grip of addiction, poverty, and sin? Join Gary Wilkerson as he shares a never-before-seen look at the incredible life and legacy of his father, bestselling author and evangelist David Wilkerson. This book tells the story of David Wilkerson, a man who refused to give up on those on the streets even when they had given up on themselves, and who saw in the eyes of drug addicts and gang members what others failed to see--the unconditional love of Jesus Christ. But who was David Wilkerson? When Wilkerson moved to New York from rural Pennsylvania in 1958 to confront the gangs who ran the streets, he was a skinny, 120-pound man. After the initial publicity that brought him face to face with some of the most dangerous young men in the city, he largely flew under the radar of the media, using the Word of God and a bit of tough love to help men and women of the street escape the destructive spiral of drugs and violence. Wilkerson was always the real deal, full of passion and conviction, not interested in what others said was the "right" thing to do. An evangelist both in America and overseas, David authored books that inspired people to be serious about their relationship with Christ. His financial generosity reached around the globe, providing homes for the destitute and feeding programs for the hungry. When he founded the Times Square Church in 1987, his ministry impacted more lives than he ever dreamed possible. Throughout David Wilkerson, you'll be inspired by: The life-changing power of faith What it means to trust God wholeheartedly The importance of following your true, God-given calling David was a man of faith who trusted God would give him what he needed to enter a cruel world; a man of conviction who took the dream God gave him and marched forward without ever looking back. As you come to know David's story, you'll learn to see the world the way he did--through the lens of eternity.
