Book Synopsis Automation and Robotisation in Welding and Allied Processes by : P D Boyd
Download or read book Automation and Robotisation in Welding and Allied Processes written by P D Boyd and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 430 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Automation and Robotisation in Welding and Allied Processes contains the proceedings of the International Conference on Automation and Robotization in Welding and Allied Processes held in Strasbourg, France, on September 2-3, 1985, under the auspices of the International Institute of Welding. The papers explore developments in the mechanization, automation, and utilization of robots in welding and related processes and cover topics such as half and fully mechanized welding of offshore constructions; adaptive systems of process control for spot welding robotic cells; and application of computer integrated manufacture to welder fabrication. This book is divided into two sections and begins with an overview of technical, economic, and human factors relating to mechanization and automation in arc and resistance welding. The next chapter describes a closed-loop controlled arc welding power source using a microcomputer as controller. The discussion then turns to problems associated with half and fully mechanized welding of offshore constructions; flexible manufacturing systems comprising welding with high productivity in small lot production; and the main factors causing process disturbance in spot welding. The final chapter is devoted to advanced adaptive control of automated arc welded fabrication which involves sensor application for seam tracking and joint recognition, preprogramming and online supervision of process parameters, and the design of a closed adaptive control loop. This monograph will be of interest to mechanical, electronics, industrial, and robotics engineers.
Book Synopsis Modeling, Sensing and Control of Gas Metal Arc Welding by : S. Ozcelik
Download or read book Modeling, Sensing and Control of Gas Metal Arc Welding written by S. Ozcelik and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2003-06-11 with total page 373 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Arc welding is one of the key processes in industrial manufacturing, with welders using two types of processes - gas metal arc welding (GMAW) and gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW). This new book provides a survey-oriented account of the modeling, sensing, and automatic control of the GMAW process.Researchers are presented with the most recent information in the areas of modeling, sensing and automatic control of the GMAW process, collecting a number of original research results on the topic from the authors and colleagues. Providing an overview of a variety of topics, this book looks at the classification of various welding processes; the modeling aspects of GMAW; physics of welding; metal transfer characteristics; weld pool geometry; process voltages and variables; power supplies; sensing (sensors for arc length, weld penetration control, weld pool geometry, using optical and intelligent sensors); control techniques of PI, PID, multivariable control, adaptive control, and intelligent control. Finally, the book illustrates a case study presented by the authors and their students at Idaho State University, in collaboration with researchers at the Idaho National Engineering and Environment Laboratory.

Book Synopsis Real-Time Robotic Control System for Titanium Gas Metal Arc Welding by :
Download or read book Real-Time Robotic Control System for Titanium Gas Metal Arc Welding written by and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page 14 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Titanium addresses the Army's need for high strength-to-weight characteristics and can meet the performance and transportability requirements of future lightweight systems. There are initiatives to develop low-cost titanium materials supplies; however, low-cost and high-rate fabrication processes are sorely lacking. Welding and joining technologies enable improved manufactured components by reducing the weight, production time, and cost of joining parts. Improved welding technology increases product lifetimes and makes possible the fabrication of large structures. Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) has the potential to significantly improve the quality, speed, and penetration depth of titanium welds, while reducing the cost per part. However, this result can only be achieved if proper weld parameters are selected and dynamically maintained during the welding process due to the nature of titanium. During this Phase I SBIR project, we have successfully demonstrated the feasibility of our innovation by determining the requirements for the system for both Army and commercial applications; designing, fabricating, and testing one of the key sensors used in the adaptive control system; determining the hardware necessary to adequately measure the weld temperature for control use; and designing a prototype control system for Ti GMAW to be fabricated and tested during the Phase II project.
