Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book depicts the revelations of a boy with aspirations. However, his young life was met with encounters that would hinder and ultimately prevent any accomplishments from being achieved. Becoming a Miami Dolphin football player or an astronaut could only be a dream. The culprit is a disease called muscular dystrophy. His type was duchenne, which is incurable. Words associated with this disease are muscular weakness, deterioration, and extreme weight loss. Requirements are heavy metal leg braces, custom-made back braces, and wheelchairs. This book takes you on a journey of Adam’s life as he coped with not only the aforementioned disease but also the daily variety of meds, oxygen treatments, and leg massages. His education consisted of a special education school when it was determined that at a regular high school, he endured too many obstacles, such as impatient teachers and students who abusively made fun of his back brace and twisted body. His final years of schooling would be from his bed at home with a tutor. During his teen years, girlfriends, attending dances, amusement parks, and participating or being a spectator of sports are all identifiable with those years. Adam had two companions, which weren’t girls. They were a wheelchair and a home hydraulic lift with a seat that would transport him from room to room and to the bathroom. A main feature of this illness is a contemptible daily pain. When Adam asked his parents if he would be remembered, reading his life story answers that question. Adam Scott touched the hearts of all who knew him. Your heart will be touched too.

Book excerpt: Contrary towhat one might imagine, there is no such thing as an experience designer. Atleast not in the sense that we might talk of an individual recognised as such.To make experiences is to be human. Shaman, architect, food engineer - you nameit, they are all experience designers. Informed by an understanding of people'sneeds and wants - our stories, our rituals, our myths - the beautifullydesigned experience has the power to transform lives. “/i>iThe Experience Book is an ode to that power. Essentially, it is a book abouttime and how we use it to design and make experiencesthat define the spaces we live, work and play in. Divided into a guidebook anda sourcebook, it begins by explaining what it is about the human mind that sodeeply feasts on the notion of the experience, and then employs this knowledgeto suggest a method or framework fordesigning experiences. The guidebook done, the sourcebook serves asinspiration for the art of experience design, with precedents drawn from the past 35,000 years' worth oftransformative experience making. The first publication about theattributes that together make what is fast becoming a recognised discipline, “/i>iThe Experience Book is beautifully presented. Comprised of a wonderfully eclectic range of written forms, illustratedby a fantastic mix of drawings and photography, and backed by historicaland contemporary examples from the worlds ofarchitecture, branding, fashion, music, art, sport and business, it introducesthe maker of experiences as part ethnographer, storyteller, master planner andperformance artist. Challenging theorthodoxy of function, reasserting process over monument and product, delighting in the unexpected, and championing the spectator over the spectacle, this is a book for anyone interested in the power of design,be they creator, communicator or consumer.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Back after a four–year hiatus, New York Times bestselling author Scott Adams presents an outrageous look at work, home and everyday life in his new book, Dilbert and the Way of the Weasel. Building on Dilbert's theory that 'All people are idiots', Adams now says, 'All people are idiots. And they are also weasels.' Just ask anyone who worked at Enron. In this book, Adams takes a look into the Weasel Zone, the giant grey area between good moral behaviour and outright felonious activities. In the Weasel Zone, where most people reside, everything is misleading, but not exactly a lie. Building on his popular comic strip, Adams looks into work, home and everyday life and exposes the way of the weasel for everyone to see. With appearances from all the regular comic strip characters, Adams and Dilbert are at the top of their game – master satirists who expose the truth while making us laugh our heads off.

Book excerpt: The US Masters: the most famous tournament of all. A global TV audience of 150 million, a string of legendary winners ... and a curse for Australian golfers. From Jim Ferrier blowing a huge lead in 1950 to Greg Norman's litany of disasters over decades, the Masters constantly turned its back on any Australian who looked likely to get close to the Holy Grail. The curse grew a life of its own. Norman spent 22 years trying to win the title he craved above all others, only to be stopped cold by nerves, rotten luck and bizarre twists of fate. As a boy, Adam Scott had cried while watching Greg Norman's implosions. He became world junior champion, and a protege of Norman. Respectful and dignified, he was one of the most popular players on the US and European tours. His swing was to die for, but his putting was a nightmare. He kept falling apart in big tournaments. In 2009, when Scott's career was in free-fall - when his world ranking plummeted and his personal life was on the skids - the only two men to show faith in him were Greg Norman and the Argentinian player, Angel Cabrera. Come 2013, Scott is in the thick of an impossibly dramatic Masters. Three Australians are among those fighting for the lead. Only Scott makes it to a sudden-death playoff - against Cabrera. As darkness closes in, he has what Norman never had: one putt to win the Masters. Featuring exclusive interviews with Adam Scott, Scott's father Phil, Greg Norman and every prominent Australian golfer from British Open champions Peter Thomson and Ian Baker-Finch to Masters runner-up Jack Newton, all of whom tried and failed at Augusta, Amen is the definitive story of how Adam Scott broke the biggest hex on Australian sport.

Book excerpt: For most people, it is a struggle to learn how to give themselves completely to love. Surprisingly, it is his career as a divorce lawyer where author Adam Scott Jaffe learned there is no half-way effort if relationships are to thrive. He has truly seen behind the curtain. Through his work, he was able to discover a simple yet paramount secret that provides couples the greatest opportunity to follow through on their commitments to each other. Jaffe's revelations in this passionate and sincere novel intend to give a couple the best opportunity to experience the most rewarding and sustainable relationship possible. He focuses on the conscious decision partners in a relationship have to make to succeed. Through intimate and detailed storytelling, Jaffe's main character admits how he was sabotaging his own dreams for happiness. He uses the lessons that he crystallized from his years as a divorce attorney to spur a complete metamorphosis of his character. The ultimate lesson is uncovered: it is never too late to change for love. Defending Eve is inspired by true events. It is not a self-help book or biography. Rather it is a genuine and heartfelt story that leaves the reader with many valuable lessons intended to better all relationships. It is also unique because such a tender story has its source in a world affected by the acrimony of break up. Ironically, it is only through such a stormy environment that the light shines through. There is truly bounty in such a revelation, and it must be shared.

Book excerpt: Now a major film! New York Times bestselling author and “one of America’s top cultural critics” (Entertainment Weekly) Chuck Klosterman’s debut novel brilliantly captures the charm and dread of small-town life. Somewhere in rural North Dakota, there is a fictional town called Owl. They don’t have cable. They don’t really have pop culture, but they do have grain prices and alcoholism. People work hard and then they die. But that’s not nearly as awful as it sounds; in fact, sometimes it’s perfect. Mitch Hrlicka lives in Owl. He plays high school football and worries about his weirdness, or lack thereof. Julia Rabia just moved to Owl. A history teacher, she gets free booze and falls in love with a self-loathing bison farmer. Widower and local conversationalist Horace Jones has resided in Owl for seventy-three years. They all know each other completely, except that they’ve never met. But when a deadly blizzard—based on an actual storm that occurred in 1984—hits the area, their lives are derailed in unexpected and powerful ways. An unpretentious, darkly comedic story of how it feels to exist in a community where local mythology and violent reality are pretty much the same thing, Downtown Owl is “a satisfying character study and strikes a perfect balance between the funny and the profound” (Publishers Weekly).
