Download or read book Arabic Today written by John Mace and published by Edinburgh University Press. This book was released on 2008-10-08 with total page 368 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Audio material to accompany the book is available at the following website: www.euppublishing.com/page/ArabicToday/audioA student, business and professional course in spoken and written Arabic aimed at those with no prior knowledge of the language.Suitable for business professionals and students wanting to communicate directly with people and institutions in the Arab world, Arabic Today is a self-contained course in contemporary Arabic. Tuition tends to concentrate either on the written language (never used in everyday speech) or on a selected regional dialect (which is never written down). Arabic Today breaks with this tradition, capitalising on the emerging form of spoken Pan-Arabic. This supraregional form of educated speech is drawn from the most influential areas, as well as the modern written word. So whether you wish to speak the language or add writing skills as well, this course book and accompanying audio website are the ideal tools for self-tuition and classroom use. The second edition of this book has been thoroughly revised and updated to make it relevant to a new generation of readers. Grammar is explained more clearly and precisely, the reading material has been updated and the typography is clearer. New word indexes give meanings and reference for the vocabulary and together with the grammar index they offer an invaluable additional reference function.
Book Synopsis British Warship Recognition: The Perkins Identification Albums by : Richard Perkins
Download or read book British Warship Recognition: The Perkins Identification Albums written by Richard Perkins and published by Pen and Sword. This book was released on 2017-03-31 with total page 209 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Richard Perkins warship identification albums form one of the most detailed studies ever undertaken of the changes to the appearance of Royal Navy ships. However, it is a unique hand-drawn manuscript artifact in the care of the National Maritime Museum, so despite its value it is rarely seen by anyone besides the museum's curators, for whom it is a precious resource, used on an almost daily basis. In collaboration with the Museum, Seaforth is undertaking the first publication of this monumental work in a superbly produced multi-volume edition that captures all the qualities of the original. Every page is reproduced at full size, making the extensive handwritten annotation readable, while the fine-line drawings retain all the colors that Perkins used to denote appearance differences and alterations. Following the Museum's binding arrangement, the third volume of the series is the first half of the coverage of all cruisers from the Amazon class corvettes of 1865 to the Belfast class of 1939; the second half constitutes Volume IV. Highlights of this first part include armored cruisers, the so-called large light cruisers, and the cruisers of the inter-war period. This is a publishing event of the utmost importance for every enthusiast and ship modeler, who for the first time will be able to own a copy of a unique and invaluable reference work.

Book excerpt: Cyber-physical systems frequently have to use massive redundancy to meet application requirements for high reliability. While such redundancy is required, it can be activated adaptively, based on the current state of the controlled plant. Most of the time the physical plant is in a state that allows for a lower level of fault-tolerance. Avoiding the continuous deployment of massive fault-tolerance will greatly reduce the workload of CPSs. In this dissertation, we demonstrate a software simulation framework (AdaFT) that can automatically generate the sub-spaces within which our adaptive fault-tolerance can be applied. We also show the theoretical benefits of AdaFT, and its actual implementation in several real-world CPSs.

Book Synopsis Adaptations in the Sound Era by : Deborah Cartmell
Download or read book Adaptations in the Sound Era written by Deborah Cartmell and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2015-07-30 with total page 177 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is no disputing that the coming of sound heralded a new era for adaptations. We take it for granted today that a film is enhanced by sound but it was not a view unanimously held in the early period of sound cinema. While there was a substantial degree of skepticism in the late 1920s and early 30s about the advantages of sound, what we would call technophobia today, the inclusion of speech in screen versions of literary and theatrical works, undeniably revised what it was to be an adaptation: words. Focusing on promotional materials, Adaptations in the Sound Era tracks early attempts to promote sound through the elevation of words in adaptations in the early sound period. The popular appeal of these films clearly stands in opposition to academic regard for them and the book reflects on the presence and marketing of 'words' in a variety of adaptations, from the introduction of sound in the late 1920s to the mid 1930s. This book contextualizes a range of adaptations in relation to debates about 'picturizations' of books in the early sound era, including reactions to the talking adaptation by writers such as, Irwin Panofsky, Aldous Huxley and Graham Greene. Film adaptations of Shakespeare, Dickens, gothic fiction and biopics are also discussed in relation to their use and promotion of sound or, more precisely, words.

Book Synopsis Mathematical Software by : John R. Rice
Download or read book Mathematical Software written by John R. Rice and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2014-05-27 with total page 537 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mathematical Software deals with software designed for mathematical applications such as Fortran, CADRE, SQUARS, and DESUB. The distribution and sources of mathematical software are discussed, along with number representation and significance monitoring. User-modifiable software and non-standard arithmetic programs are also considered. Comprised of nine chapters, this volume begins with a historical background in the form of a chronological list of events that trace the development of computing in general and mathematical software in particular. The next chapter examines where and how mathematical software is being created and how it is being disseminated to eventual consumers. A number of important shortcomings are identified. The future of mathematical software and the challenges facing mathematical software are then discussed. Subsequent chapters focus on the point of view of people outside the professional community of mathematical software; the monitoring of significance in computation and its relation to number representation; libraries of mathematical software; and the automation of numerical analysis. Eleven algorithms for numerical quadrature are also compared. This book should be of considerable interest to students and specialists in the fields of mathematics and computer science.
