Download or read book Acoustic Interactions with Submerged Elastic Structures written by A. Guran and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2001 with total page 398 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The interaction of acoustic fields with submerged elastic structures, both by propagation and scattering, is being investigated at various institutions and laboratories world-wide with ever-increasing sophistication of experiments and analysis. This book offers a collection of contributions from these research centers that represent the present state-of-the-art in the study of acoustic elastic interaction, being on the cutting edge of these investigations. This includes the description of acoustic scattering from submerged elastic objects and shells by the Resonance Scattering Theory of Flax, Dragonette and berall, and the interaction of these phenomena in terms of interface waves. It also includes the use of this theory for the purpose of inverse scattering, i.e. the determination of the scattered objects properties from the received acoustic backscattered signals. The problem of acoustically excited waves in inhomogeneous and anisotropic materials, and of inhomogeneous propagating waves is considered. Vibrations and resonances of elastic shells, including shells with various kinds of internal attachments, are analyzed. Acoustic scattering experiments are described in the time domain, and on the basis of the WignerOCoVille distribution. Acoustic propagation in the water column over elastic boundaries is studied experimentally both in laboratory tanks, and in the field, and is analyzed theoretically. Ultrasonic nondestructive testing, including such aspects like probe modelling, scattering by various types of cracks, receiving probes and calibration by a side-drilled hole is also studied in details. A comprehensive picture of these complex phenomena and other aspects is presented in the book by researchers that are experts in each of these domains, giving up-to-date accounts of the field in all these aspects. Contents: Discrete Spectral Analysis for Solitary Waves (J Engelbrecht et al.); Propagation and Interaction of Waves in Nonlinear-Elastic Solids with Microstructures (V I Erofeyev); Matched Field Processing: A Powerful Tool for the Study of Oceans and Scatterers (A Tolstoy); Progress in Underwater Acoustic Modeling (P C Etter); Reflectivity Response of a Submerged Layer with Density, Sound Velocity and Absorbtion Gradients (R Carb-Fit(r)); Mathematical Aspects of Wave Phenomena in a Wave Guide with Elastic Walls and Operator Polynomials (B P Belinskiy & J P Dauer); On Some General Mathematical Properties of the System Elastic Plate OCo Acoustic Medium (B P Belinskiy); Acoustic Scattering from Finite Length Cylinders Encapped by Two Hemispheres (D Decultot et al.); Acoustic Scattering from a Circular Cylindrical Shell Immersed in Water. Download or read book Yvain written by Chretien de Troyes and published by Yale University Press. This book was released on 1987-09-10 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The twelfth-century French poet Chrétien de Troyes is a major figure in European literature. His courtly romances fathered the Arthurian tradition and influenced countless other poets in England as well as on the continent. Yet because of the difficulty of capturing his swift-moving style in translation, English-speaking audiences are largely unfamiliar with the pleasures of reading his poems. Now, for the first time, an experienced translator of medieval verse who is himself a poet provides a translation of Chrétien’s major poem, Yvain, in verse that fully and satisfyingly captures the movement, the sense, and the spirit of the Old French original. Yvain is a courtly romance with a moral tenor; it is ironic and sometimes bawdy; the poetry is crisp and vivid. In addition, the psychological and the socio-historical perceptions of the poem are of profound literary and historical importance, for it evokes the emotions and the values of a flourishing, vibrant medieval past.

Book Synopsis Acoustics of Solids by : Abraham I. Beltzer
Download or read book Acoustics of Solids written by Abraham I. Beltzer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 245 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Technological developments in composite materials, non-destructive testing, and signal processing as well as biomedical applications, have stimulated wide-ranging engineering investigations of heterogeneous, anisotropic media and surface waves of different types. Wave propagation in solids is now of considerable importance in a variety of applications. The book presents many of the key results in this field and interprets them from a unified engineering viewpoint. The conceptual importance and relevance for applications were the prevailing criteria in selecting the topics. Included are body and surface waves in elastic, viscoelastic, and piezoelectric media and waveguides, with emphasis on the effects of inhomogeneity and anisotropy. The book differs in many aspects from the other monographs dealing with wave propagation in solids. It focuses on physically meaningful theoretical models, a broad spectrum of which is covered, and not on mathematical techniques. Some of the results, particularly those dealing with waves in composites, are given for the first time in the monographical literature. Both, exact and approximate approaches, are discussed. While the subject is advanced, the presentation is at an intermediate level of mathematical complexity, making understanding easier.

Book Synopsis Underwater Scattering and Radiation by : Allan D. Pierce
Download or read book Underwater Scattering and Radiation written by Allan D. Pierce and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 395 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Underwater Scattering and Radiation describes the relevant theoretical foundations of underwater scattering and radiation. Acoustic scattering from elastic solids is discussed, and variational formulations in acoustic radiation and scattering are presented. Surface waves and quasi-cylindrical modes are also explored, along with the Helmholtz-Kirchhoff integral corollaries. Comprised of two chapters, this volume begins with a comprehensive account of scattering by elastic objects, focusing on the classic idealized shapes of spheres and infinite cylinders. The reader is introduced to important concepts such as normal modes, the S-matrix, and the T-matrix as well as resonances, whispering gallery modes, Franz modes, and Stoneley waves. Subsequent sections describe methods for treating scattering by elastic bodies of more general shapes. The T-matrix formalism is discussed and then applied to spheroidal scatterers and finite cylinders. The second chapter analyzes how variational principles can be used in acoustics, with the choice of topics directed toward applications to underwater acoustic radiation and scattering. This book will be of interest to physicists.

Book Synopsis Acoustic fields and waves in solids by : B.A. Auld
Download or read book Acoustic fields and waves in solids written by B.A. Auld and published by Рипол Классик. This book was released on 1973 with total page 432 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Volume One begins with a systematic development of basic concepts (strain, stress, stiffness and compliance, viscous clamping) and coordinate transformations in both tensor and matrix notation. The basic elastic field equations are then written in a form analogous to Maxwell's equations. This analogy is then pursued when analyzing wave propagation in both isotropic and anisotropic solids. Piezoelectricity and bulk wave transducers are treated in the final chapter. Appendixes list slowness diagrams and material properties for various crystalline solids.
