Book excerpt: "Like newborn babes, long for the pure milk of the word, that by it you may grow in respect to salvation." 1 Peter 2:2 It's a fact of life: our health declines if we don't nourish our bodies every day with food and water. That's true physically. It's true spiritually as well. If we neglect to regularly feed our souls on the Holy Scriptures, our faith becomes weak and we start to lose touch with our Savior. Growth is stifled... if it happens at all. Drawing Near, used daily in combination with God's Holy Word, can not only help bring you closer to God but also keep you from spiritual stagnation. This book will guide you in a growing relationship with Him. As Pastor MacArthur says in his Introduction: "Our entertainment-conscious, quick-fix, fast-food society does everything it can to divert us from setting aside time to study God's Word. As you well know from your own efforts, Bible study is not often entertaining—it's hard work. It takes discipline to set aside time each day to reap the benefits such study has to offer. If you reach an impasse when it's time to sit down, open your Bible, and try to decide what to do, you're not alone. Without some plan to follow, it's easy to become frustrated and eventually give up after only one or two days. That's where this book comes in." If you desire greater understanding of the precious Word of God, if you want a daily guide to draw you closer to the Lord, this outstanding collections of 365 devotional readings by one of America's most respected and trusted Bible teachers is for you!

Book Synopsis The Many Faces of Faith by : Michael Taylor
Download or read book The Many Faces of Faith written by Michael Taylor and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2009-12-02 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Faith is one of the most critical aspects of the Christian life, because it is the means by which we receive all that God has secured for us; yet the nature of faith is one of the most misunderstood concepts of Christianity. Some conceptualize faith as some mental state that one must reach before they are able to “tap into” God’s “resources.” Others view faith as some sort of incorporeal substance that is “out there” for which we must reach. All of these concepts of faith are deficient, if not heretical, and yet all of them are found in the church. Others view faith as a mere fantasy or hope with no basis in reality, and thus religious claims are excluded from the arena of knowledge. “For a number of years my heart has been trilled over the doctrine of faith as it is received and taught among evangelical Christians everywhere. Great emphasis is laid upon faith in orthodox circles, and that is good, but still I am troubled. Specifically, my fear is that the modern conception of faith is not the biblical one; that when the teachers of our day use the word, they do no mean what Bible meant when they used it”. I also share the same concerns with A.W.Tozer, when he said; “the cause of my uneasiness are these”: 1. The lack of spiritual fruits in the lives of so many who claim to have faith. 2. The rarity of a radical change in the conduct and general outlook of persons professing their new faith in Christ as their personal Savior. 3. The failure of our teachers to define or even describe the thing to which the word faith is supposed to refer. 4. The heartbreaking failure of multitudes of seekers is they are even so earnest to make anything out of the doctrine or to receive any satisfying experience through it. 5. The real danger that a doctrine that is parroted so widely and received so uncritically by so many is false as understood by them. 6. I have seen faith put forward as an escape from reality, a refuge from the necessity of hard thinking, a hiding place for weak character, natural optimism, emotional thrills and nervous tics. Therefore, in the pages of this book, I will endeavor to outline for your benefit the dynamics of faith. What is faith? How does faith works? How to grow in faith? The power of faith; the Excellency of faith; the demand of faith; the perseverance of faith; the challenges of faith; the object of faith, the effect of faith; the response of faith; the discipline of faith; the necessity of faith and many more are discussed.

Book Synopsis Jonathan Edwards and the Life of God by : W. Ross Hastings
Download or read book Jonathan Edwards and the Life of God written by W. Ross Hastings and published by Augsburg Fortress Publishers. This book was released on 2015 with total page 542 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Jonathan Edwards and the Life of God aims to offer a retrieval of Edwards's theology of participation for contemporary evangelical theology. It critically expounds and elucidates the concept of participation in God, or theosis, in Edwards's Trinitarian theology as it relates to around three unions: the three persons of the Trinity, the hypostatic union of the divine and human in Christ, and that of believers with Christ. This volume brings Edwards's rich theological work into conversation with the patristic (Augustine and the Cappadocians) and Reformed traditions (Calvin and, especially, Barth), in order to construct with Edwards a more hopeful, liberating, and truly human version of Christian life. Consideration of the life of God in Edwards thus moves "beyond" in two senses: first, perspectives on participation beyond those of Edwards from Barth, Volf, the Cappadocian Fathers, and others in the tradition, are engaged in order to locate and critique and enhance it; and secondly, in the sense that, as Hastings argues, participation leads, for Edwards and others, into the "beyond" of the beatific vision--the glory of God, which is the hope that, amongst other things, motivates the Christian life.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Longing for Rest introduces you to the original worship of the ancient Israelites. It is intended basically to advice the Christendom, but it is also hoped that the Jews in Diaspora who have fallen away from their divine instructions might benefit by reading this Book as well. Longing for Rest, has been chosen to redirect readers to the true and correct day of worshiping the Creator of heaven and earth. It is remarkable that in the creation history, this day is so important that it received recognition in Gen 2:2-3. The world of Christendom, by the decree of Emperor Constantine has changed the seventh day worship as ordained by El Elohe, to the first day worship of the sun god. "Let El Elohe be true, but every man a liar" (Romans 3:4). It is meant to serve as a text for seminarians, schools and the academia, Church Leaders, businessmen and women who are serious students of the Set-Apart Book (Bible).
Book Synopsis All People, All Times by : Jeffery S. Stevenson
Download or read book All People, All Times written by Jeffery S. Stevenson and published by Xulon Press. This book was released on 2009-09 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: All People, All Times: Rethinking Biblical Authority in Churches of Christ explores the assumptions traditionally held in a cappella Churches of Christ regarding how one knows what in Scripture is binding on all people at all times. The development of the tripartite model for determining Bible authority (i.e., command, example and implication) is examined and critiqued. While many in Churches of Christ advocate abandoning the model altogether, others refuse to see its limitations in a postmodern culture. All People, All Times offers a hermeneutical approach (The Transformational Restoration Hermeneutic or TRH) that sharpens the tripartite method by providing a biblically based grid to more accurately discern Scripture's emphases. As well, it introduces a sorely needed means for the formational use of Scripture. In short, the TRH recognizes not only the need to take Scripture seriously when it speaks authoritatively regarding external or doctrinal necessities, but also when it speaks to the spiritual, moral and relational priorities stressed in our postmodern era. It is hoped the TRH can provide a hermeneutical bridge between the widening streams of a fellowship historically devoted to speaking where the Bible speaks. For the last 18 of his 32 years in preaching, Jeffery S. Stevenson has served as the Preaching Minister for the Church of Christ at Louisville, Ohio and the Director of Second Wind Christian Counseling Ministries. Jeff holds degrees from Freed-Hardeman University (Bible), the University of Akron (Marriage and Family Therapy) and a Doctorate from Ashland (Ohio) Theological Seminary. Jeff has written on topics such as hermeneutics and biblical application in the Restoration Movement, evangelism and Christian counseling. He has published articles in the Gospel Advocate, Christian Standard and Restoration Quarterly. Jeff and his wife Tonnie have three grown daughters-Micah, Meghann and Mallory. Jeff's likes reading, walking, cycling and model railroading.

Book Synopsis Adventures of a Foot Washer by : Carlos Alonso
Download or read book Adventures of a Foot Washer written by Carlos Alonso and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2007-12 with total page 105 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cynicism is strong in the newspaper business where I have worked for more than 30 years. But Carlos Alonso is a bright spot in my career. A respected missionary, he is committed to serving Jesus Christ in every aspect of his life. One of my articles was about Carlos taking the Gospel to his family in Cuba after 20 years in the United States. He led them all to the Lord, which is typical of the fruit God has born through his obedience. Boldness is a strong attribute in Carlos. He does not hold back when the Lord speaks to Him. As missionary and prophet he travels the world preaching Jesus, laying hands on the sick and setting captives free through the power of the Holy Spirit. In Adventures of a Foot Washer, he tells of many encounters with the power Jesus and the miracles he has witnessed. He shares his story with humility, yet with a confidence that comes from obedience to God. Take this journey with Carlos and see how the Holy Spirit can touch you as a believer. As a Christian for more than 35 years, I assure you that it will be a trip worth taking. Michelle Jones Journalist

Download or read book Ecclesiology written by Mark W. Fenison and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2018-07-25 with total page 1086 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The issue of the church is one of the most divisive issues in Christendom. In this volume, Professor Fenison restricts his studies to Pre–New Testament and New Testament uses of the Greek term ekklesia. He then evaluates the more modern universal invisible church theory in its relationship to the historical usage of ekklesia and in its relationship to the very fundamental basics of biblical soteriology. In particular, Fenison demonstrates that this post-biblical theory is not inconsistent with regard to the primary consequence of the fall (spiritual death/separation) and its only possible fundamental solution (restoration to spiritual union with God). Fenison argues that ecclesiology was never part of that solution prior to the cross and is no part of that solution after the cross. Fenison totally repudiates church salvation in every form but insists that salvation consists in its most fundamental essence as restoration to spiritual union with God, which is affected by the internalized empowered gospel as the Spirit’s creative Word (2 Cor. 4:6; Jam. 1:18; Pet. 1:23,25) without any relationship to the church or its ordinances in any way, shape, or form.
