Sendo assim, para que a cidade seja um lugar de todos, é de extrema importância que se garanta a plena acessibilidade dos indivíduos, respeitando, dessa forma, a diversidade inerente à condição humana e levando em consideração a extrema necessidade de inclusão social das pessoas com deficiência e mobilidade reduzida, obtida por meio da inserção delas aos espaços públicos e edificados.Ao observar a cidade com os olhos de quem busca esses elementos de inserção das pessoas no espaço urbano - especificamente aquelas que têm algum tipo de deficiência ou dificuldade de locomoção -, foi possível observar a implicação social da eliminação de barreiras arquitetônicas de uma cidade acessível, como a de Oviedo, localizada na comunidade autônoma do Principado de Astúrias, na Espanha, em comparação ao município de Vitória da Conquista, localizado no estado da Bahia, no Brasil.
