Book excerpt: Advent is the time of year just before Christmas when we prepare ourselves and our homes for celebrating the birth of Jesus. It is a time full of preparations. We clean and decorate. We make, bake and buy gifts for our friends and family. We attend parties at our schools, churches and at the homes of our friends and family. This is also the time when we prepare our hearts to worship. It is a time when we read and focus on the stories in our Bible that tell us about Jesus' birth. Each Advent season offers us an opportunity to hear the Christmas story again and gives us the challenge of finding new meaning in this familiar story. This devotional book is a special way for children to prepare for Christmas. Parents can even use this guide to work together with their child to make this experience one to treasure for years to come. Each page of this book has a short reading about the Christmas story that matches a letter of the alphabet for each day of Advent. Each day also has an opportunity for both younger and older children to reflect, through journaling or drawing, on the day's lesson. This is a time to get ready for something new and exciting. Go now and listen to the Christmas story again and treasure its moments of new discovery.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dramatically converted on the stormy seas, a slave-trader-turned-abolitionist penned the best-loved hymn of the Christian faith. A church father was arrested and martyred for teaching the truth about Christ's incarnation. Captured by pirates and shipped off to Ireland, a priest baptized thousands of pagans, from paupers to princes. Now who ever said church history was boring? The Church History ABCs is a fun way for kids to learn about great figures in Christian history. Twenty-six heroes of the faith march through the alphabet, boldly telling their stories in language children can understand. This wide range of characters—men and women from across the centuries, from all over the globe—reflects the breadth of church history and reminds children that these great figures of the past were living, breathing people who lived and died for the glory of God.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains the expert knowledge base of the field’s most experienced practitioners in the field of extradural bone and soft tissue malignancy. Chapters include modern classification, advanced anatomy, imaging, and the concepts around a multidisciplinary approach. Since treating primary tumors requires very different strategies than those used in metastatic tumors, the book devotes separate sections to each sub-discipline. For primary tumors, the text covers both benign and malignant entities and addresses unique anatomic zones such as the sacrum and skull base which require special technical expertise. For metastatic disease, the authors address the ever-important concept of prognosis, and discuss how to answer the eternal question: “How much should we do, and for whom?”. Chapters also explore the state of the art of treatment for the “big 5” histologies (renal cell, lung, breast, prostate, thyroid), with a special chapter emphasis on separation surgery and the now-standard combinatorial care between radiation and surgery. In addition, an entire section is dedicated to evolving surgical technology, which covers the use of minimally invasive techniques, navigation, robotics, 3D-printing, and other evolving technologies for spine tumor care. Infrequently-considered topics, such as how to evaluate a lesion which may be a tumor-mimic, and how to think about economic value in spine tumor surgery, are also presented. Surgical Spinal Oncology serves to help surgeons approach difficult clinical scenarios with a thoughtful, collaborative approach that leverages the best technology and thinking the field of spine oncology has to offer.
