Book excerpt: Avatar Meher Baba born Merwan Sheriar Irani, was an Indian God-Realised master of Zoroastrian Persian origin who declared publicly in 1954 that He is the Avatar (God-Incarnate) of this age. The saying "Don’t worry Be Happy" was mentioned by Him in 1960s to a group of Baba lovers in Pune. He said "I am God in human form. Be prepared to obey me with all willingness. I bestow the gift of love as and when I like. Better leave it to my will and pleasure." He maintained silence for 42 years. By His unique hand gestures He communicated in silence with His disciples and devotees: “When I drop my body, I will remain in all who love me. I can never die. Love me, obey me, and you will find me.”… On His tomb shrine marble in Meherabad is inscribed: "I Have Come Not To Teach But To Awaken." At His tomb popularly known as Samadhi devotees and Baba lovers cross the threshold to accept all conditions of their pilgrimage as the prasad given to them by their Beloved Lord. Long time Baba lover Homyar J. Mistry-Homz had opportunity to meet close disciples of Baba known as mandali. Samadhi structure is not just a grave of Master but very alive place and Baba shows HIS presence in innumerable ways which are captured by Homyar Mistry and illustrated in The Samadhi Coffee Table Book. The Book reflects God’s words and its pages a pilgrimage. Homyar’s colourful book carries the tittle of Meher Baba’s words: "A yogi’s meditation ends in Samadhi…while meditation done out of love ends in Union…" The Book leaves the reader spellbound of Avatar Meher Baba’s greatness as God.

Download or read book Supernormal written by Dean Radin PhD and published by Deepak Chopra. This book was released on 2013-07-16 with total page 401 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Can yoga and meditation unleash our inherent supernormal mental powers, such as telepathy, clairvoyance, and precognition? Is it really possible to perceive another person's thoughts and intentions? Influence objects with our minds? Envision future events? And is it possible that some of the superpowers described in ancient legends, science fiction, and comic books are actually real, and patiently waiting for us behind the scenes? Are we now poised for an evolutionary trigger to pull the switch and release our full potentials? Dean Radin, Director of Research at the Institute of Noetic Sciences (IONS) and bestselling author of The Conscious Universe, presents persuasive new experimental evidence for the existence of such phenomena. He takes us on a thrilling scientific journey and challenges outdated assumptions that these abilities are mere superstition. Focusing on Patanjali's mysterious Yoga Sutras -- 2,000 year-old meditation practices believed to release our extraordinary powers -- Radin offers powerful evidence confirming that sometimes fact is much stranger, spookier, and more wonderful than the wildest fiction.

Why are their beliefs often held with irrational strength? How are changes in belief systems related to mental health? What are reasonable attitudes towards alternative belief systems? This edition includes samples of the experimental and statistical studies of religious problems, including the author's own study of the strength of religious beliefs. This edition also pays more attention to the problems of non-Christian religious systems, with special consideration given to the problems of mutual toleration. Drawing on years of study and experience in India, Eliade provides a comprehensive survey of Yoga in theory and practice from its earliest foreshadowings in the Vedas through the twentieth century. The subjects discussed include Patañjali, author of the Yoga-sutras; yogic techniques, such as concentration "on a Single Point," postures, and respiratory discipline; and Yoga in relation to Brahmanism, Buddhism, Tantrism, Oriental alchemy, mystical erotism, and shamanism.
Book Synopsis A History of Mindfulness by : Bhikkhu Sujato
Download or read book A History of Mindfulness written by Bhikkhu Sujato and published by Bhikkhu Sujato. This book was released on 2011-07-18 with total page 397 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Satipaṭṭhāna Sutta is the most influential scripture in Buddhist meditation. It is the foundation text for the modern schools of 'vipassanā' or 'insight' meditation. The well-known Pali discourse is, however, only one of many early Buddhist texts that deal with mindfulness. This is the first full-scale study to encompass all extant versions of the Satipaṭṭhāna Sutta, taking into account the dynamic evolution of the Buddhist scriptures and the broader Indian meditative culture. A new vision emerges from this groundbreaking study: mindfulness is not a system of 'dry insight' but is the 'way to convergence' leading the mind to deep states of peace.
