Book excerpt: For so many of us, our friends are like family members--we lean on them through our highest highs and our lowest lows--but sometimes those friendships don't turn out quite as we hoped. Bible teacher Kelly Needham debunks our world's constricted, narrow view of friendship and casts a richer, more life-giving, biblical vision for friendship. In Friend-ish, Kelly Needham reminds us that we were called to more than halfhearted friendships and lukewarm connections. We need something more stable, secure, and sacred. We were designed for real friendship--but the difficult truth is that too many of us are settling for less. Kelly deconstructs what Scripture says about the gift of friendship and takes a closer look at the distorted view that most of us have instead. As she shares the lessons she's learned from experience, Kelly paints her own glorious vision of what Christian friendship could look like. With hard-fought wisdom, a clear view of Scripture, and a been-there perspective, Friend-ish teaches us how to: Recognize symptoms of idolatry and toxic dependency Boldly ask for what we need from our community of friends Understand and address the problems that arise in friendship--from neediness to discord Recognize when it's time to end an unhealthy friendship Reorient toward the purposeful, loving relationships we all crave that ultimately bring us closer to God Find the friends you need and start to become that friend for others Join Kelly as she challenges you to view your chosen family in a new light, gain a vision of friendship according to Jesus, and finally enjoy friendships as God intended.

Book excerpt: "Flirting With The Truth" is a collection of short stories and poems, all of which are true, based on situations and events that have taken place in the life thus far, of the author, Luella Thomas. The story, "A Fed Up Woman" can certainly be appreciated by both women and men: it is about entering into a relationship in hopes of becoming that special one to tie the knot, but after several years of patiently waiting, and with a deadly blow to her ego, which would inevitably shock her back to reality, Luella would quickly learn that letting go and moving on, would prove to be most challenging. The story, "Simon Said" is about friendship, politics, and deadly intensions to undermine, manipulate, and destroy the innocent. With an uncontrollable lust to recruit those who were vulnerable and weak, and to entrap anyone who would get in the way of his progress, Simon would stop at nothing. Known for his charm and charismatic approach, many loved him initially, and although he marveled in delight while watching his victims helplessly self-destruct, he spared no prisoners who entered into his web of deceit: the lost of their pride and then death, was eminent. The poem, "A Righteous Prayer" offers a prayer of relief to those who seek spiritual guidance, while "Now Is The Time" addresses change, commitment, and loyalty, in order to survive today's social and economic problems. "A Message To My People" is a must read poem, for it addresses the issues of morals and values amongst ourselves, our families, and our allies. "Flirting With The Truth" is said to be a sharp and invigorating piece of literary work, comprised of hair-raising poems and heart-felt stories about life's lessons, which renders 'food for thought'. It's funny, entertaining, and a pleasure to read.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When psychologists began hearing adults tell harrowing tales of childhood abuse, some dismissed the stories as false. Other therapists, however, recognized that the hidden memories might indicate multiple personality disorder, a complex coping strategy that helps victims deal with severe abuse. In The Truth about False Memory Syndrome, Dr. Jim Friesen, a pioneer in the treatment of multiple personality disorder, tackles the subject of FMS with clarity and knowledge no tabloid or talk show can muster. An experienced and compassionate psychologist, Friesen takes the reader along as he helps his clients piece their lives back together and recover from abuse. Through engrossing, yet unnerving, case studies of various patients, dealing with everything from sexual to satanic ritual abuse, Friesen draws a distinction between memory and fantasy, truth and falsehood. In the process, our misconceptions about the victims of abuse, and FMS, are dispelled.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I am sure this book can bring God's enlightenment and wisdom in these last days in a much clearer way to people. I have seen how the lack of wisdom has made western society crumble, how everything is very confusing, we no longer know what is true or false, black or white, good or bad, the churches that once were the strong pillars that sustained and carried forward western society today have lost their credibility and power in the face of an increasingly unbelieving world, even within the churches there is a lack of agreement because the guidance of the Holy Spirit has been lost and each Christian thinks differently and not as God would like them to think. To tell the truth, I have felt this call of God for many years, but I did not know how to begin until in these last two years, God opened a door for me and made me write. At first, I did not think it was to make a book but after writing many things, I felt that it was time to carry out that idea that I had years ago of making a book that would serve to bring blessing to people and to bring the light of the word of God that the world needs in the midst of the chaos and confusion of these last days. It is not that I planned it or that I planned it for this time, but that God took me to places and made me meet people who opened the doors for me to write this book, and without these places and these people, this would not have been possible. I feel that if it is God's will and plan as I believe it is, God will open the doors, and this book will be published for the blessing of many people.

Book excerpt: Not What You Think blows the dust off dated misperceptions of the Bible and engages the problems of this book head-on--the parts that make modern readers squeamish, skeptical, and uncertain. If you're skeptical about the Bible, you're not alone. The Bible is seen by many contemporary readers as intolerant, outdated, out of step with societal norms at best, and a tool of oppression at worst. In this earnest and illuminating read, millennial thought leaders and aspiring theologians Michael and Lauren McAfee are here to say: fair enough. But they're also here to raise a few questions of their own: What if we cleared the deck on our preconceptions of the Bible and encountered it anew? What if we came with the understanding that our questions are welcome? And what if the Bible presents less of a system to figure out, and more of a story to step into--a story with more surprising plot twists than we might think? Michael and Lauren spent their childhoods in church and Sunday school, they spent part of their twenties finding their way in the world in New York City, and today they're shaping their careers while pursuing doctoral studies in theology and ethics. Along the way, they've had to wrangle very real questions--both their own, and of their friends--about why, where, and how the most controversial book in history fits in our world today. Join Michael and Lauren as they explore the nature of the Bible--an ancient mosaic of story, literature, history, and poetry--and what it means for this generation and its relationship with God. Ultimately, Not What You Think is an invitation to come and see, and be surprised.
