Download or read book Angels of Judas written by Paul A. Winter and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2005 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While heavily sedated in a South African hospital, a retired bishop dreams of his father who tell him: "I am here to tell you Jason that you have been chosen in this 2041 year of our Lord as the one to reveal the truth encrypted in the Eye of the Messiah, with its thirteen significant elements, as it was written in the secret scroll of Isaiah. The truth will be revealed in 13 dreams involving 13 objects." Jason is attended to by the Matron Larne, who is a part-time hooker, and a male nurse Paul who is gay. One of Larne's clients, Myaso, is the son of a witchdoctor. Next to Jason's room is a patient Abraam, who is reading his Ph.D. in religious studies. As Jason's dreams unfold, Isabel, who is ostracized from her hometown where she lived with her sister Mary, because she committed adultery, discovers the Eye of the Messiah in a grotto. The miracles of the Master, son of Mary and Joseph, are explained using natural phenomena, while four mischievous angels control the destiny of the soul of mankind. Judas convinces a soldier to become a hooker and he falls in love with one of the servants of the Master. An oracle, whose prophetic words are whistled, is a hermaphrodite with a grotesque difference. A vision of the witchdoctor, a dream of Paul's lover who is a Hindu devotee, and the thirteen dreams help Paul, Myaso and Abraam to unveil the shocking truth hidden within the Eye of the Messiah.

Book Synopsis Playlist for the Apocalypse by : Rita Dove
Download or read book Playlist for the Apocalypse written by Rita Dove and published by National Geographic Books. This book was released on 2021-08-17 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Finalist for the 2022 Los Angeles Times Book Prize and the 2021 NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Literary Work - Poetry A piercing, unflinching new volume offers necessary music for our tumultuous present, from “perhaps the best public poet we have” (Boston Globe). In her first volume of new poems in twelve years, Rita Dove investigates the vacillating moral compass guiding America’s, and the world’s, experiments in democracy. Whether depicting the first Jewish ghetto in sixteenth-century Venice or the contemporary efforts of Black Lives Matter, a girls’ night clubbing in the shadow of World War II or the doomed nobility of Muhammad Ali’s conscious objector stance, this extraordinary poet never fails to connect history’s grand exploits to the triumphs and tragedies of individual lives. Meticulously orchestrated and musical in its forms, Playlist for the Apocalypse collects a dazzling array of voices: an elevator operator simmers with resentment, an octogenarian dances an exuberant mambo, a spring cricket philosophizes with mordant humor on hip hop, critics, and Valentine’s Day. Calamity turns all too personal in the book’s final section, “Little Book of Woe,” which charts a journey from terror to hope as Dove learns to cope with debilitating chronic illness. At turns audaciously playful and grave, alternating poignant meditations on mortality and acerbic observations of injustice, Playlist for the Apocalypse takes us from the smallest moments of redemption to catastrophic failures of the human soul. Listen up, the poet says, speaking truth to power; what you’ll hear in return is “a lifetime of song.”

Download or read book The Dove and the Rose (Seekers Book #1) written by Ethel Herr and published by Baker Books. This book was released on 1997-04-01 with total page 423 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Historical Fiction Series From a Fascinating Era Caught in the sweeping changes connected with the European Reformation and Renaissance, sixteenth-century Holland under the reluctant leadership of William of Orange rebelled against the strong control of Spain's King Philip. The war that ensued to squelch the rebellion and exterminate religious heresy at any cost sets the background for Ethel Herr's compelling series, THE SEEKERS. In The Dove and the Rose, two young people are wrenched apart by the struggles of their parents. Pieter-Lucas is banished from his home for refusing to abide by his father's commitment to the Beggars, an extreme wing of Calvinism. Aletta Engelshofen is not allowed by her father to see Pieter for fear of any association with the Beggars. While they meet in secret, Aletta promises her love to Pieter and that she will wait for him until the trouble passes. Swirling tides of emerging religious, political, cultural, and personal independence clash in this excellent first book in THE SEEKERS.

Book Synopsis Birds of Maine by : Peter D. Vickery
Download or read book Birds of Maine written by Peter D. Vickery and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2020-11-03 with total page 664 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A comprehensive and beautifully illustrated overview to the birds of Maine The first comprehensive overview of Maine’s incredibly rich birdlife in more than seven decades, Birds of Maine is a detailed account of all 464 species recorded in the Pine Tree State. It is also a thoroughly researched, accessible portrait of a region undergoing rapid changes, with southern birds pushing north, northern birds expanding south, and once-absent natives like Atlantic Puffins brought back by innovative conservation techniques pioneered in Maine. Written by the late Peter Vickery in cooperation with a team of leading ornithologists, this guide offers a detailed look at the state’s dynamic avifauna—from the Wild Turkey to the Arctic Tern—with information on migration patterns and timing, current status and changes in bird abundance and distribution, and how Maine's geography and shifting climate mold its birdlife. It delves into the conservation status for Maine's birds, as well as the state's unusually textured ornithological history, involving such famous names as John James Audubon and Theodore Roosevelt, and home-grown experts like Cordelia Stanwood and Ralph Palmer. Sidebars explore diverse topics, including the Old Sow whirlpool that draws multitudes of seabirds and the famed Monhegan Island, a mecca for migrant birds. Gorgeously illustrated with watercolors by Lars Jonsson and scores of line drawings by Barry Van Dusen, Birds of Maine is a remarkable guide that birders will rely on for decades to come. Copublished with the Nuttall Ornithological Club
