Your love increases for your circle of people. You learn the sacredness of holding space for grief and the impact it has on you physically, spiritually, and emotionally. To ignore grief is a dangerous act. If you pretend it doesn’t exist, grief will take your mind, body, and soul to places you don’t want to go. I humbly pray that this little book will serve you in some way as you walk this path of grief or are holding hands with those who are brokenhearted. In this world, we are promised grief—but friend, take heart.

You must master it before it masters you!" Kayin is The Wanderer: A legend shrouded in a curse. A man untouchable, unable to farm or settle. Centuries after the horrendous act that defines his life, Kayin recounts his soul-stirring chronicle, exposing the far-reaching fallout of his parents' expulsion from Eden and revisiting the moments that shattered his youthful faith. Then came forbidden love and rejection, driving a wedge irrevocably between Kayin and his brother, with tragic consequences. Why did God scorn Kayin’s sacrifice? What transpired during that final, fateful encounter in the field? The Wanderer Scorned is the first instalment in The Wanderer Biblical Historical fiction series, immersing readers in the ancient Genesis 4 epoch. A profound exploration of the first murder, it brings the Bible to life in a fresh way, delving into the character of the Creator Yahweh and His earliest interactions with humankind.

Book Synopsis The Wanderer in the Valley of Vision by : Christian Clingman
Download or read book The Wanderer in the Valley of Vision written by Christian Clingman and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2016-03-18 with total page 488 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Because we live in a broken, fallen world, the feeling of wanderer is easy to come by. And the broken world does not necessarily become easier for the one who becomes God’s child. You have probably had at least one season (if not multiple seasons) where you felt as a “wanderer”. You live and walk through life moment by moment, day by day, year by year and yet find that you’re not sure where you’re headed and feel like you carry your cross and struggle with life, alone. Yet all of this must find its end at the feet of the redeeming hope of God’s truth. For the Christian, this feeling is deeper because he knows that, despite the unknown and uncertain life and future that stretches before him, he is not really walking through life aimless, helpless and directionless but rather being led and guided by the unseen God; the Father in Heaven. I have written this book to share with any and all those who feel like they’re alone in their life and their walk after God. In my imperfect poetry and heart, I have sought to reflect and display this truth of God: That we have tangible hope (assurance) to have and hold in this life and keep us in our walk before Him. If you have seen the path before you as uncertain... If you have found yourself a lonely and struggling traveler through life... Or have felt yourself like a leaf being carried by an unseen wind... Then my book is for you. So grasp the Father’s tender hand and let Him lead you through the shadows and light of your life...through His valley of vision.

Book Synopsis Tonus Peregrinus: The History of a Psalm-tone and its use in Polyphonic Music by : Mattias Lundberg
Download or read book Tonus Peregrinus: The History of a Psalm-tone and its use in Polyphonic Music written by Mattias Lundberg and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-03-03 with total page 364 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mattias Lundberg investigates the historical role of a deviant psalm-tone, the tonus peregrinus, focusing on its applications in polyphonic music within all major branches of Western liturgy. Throughout the remarkably persistent tradition of applying this melody to polyphony, from the ninth century right up to the twenty-first, coeval music theory is able to shed light on the problems it has posed to modal and tonal practice at various historical stages. The musical settings studied hold up a mirror to the general development of psalmody, concerning practices of organum, diverse regional forms of fauxbourdon, cantus firmus composition, free imitation, parody, fugue, quodlibet, monody, and many other compositional techniques where the unique features of the psalm-tone have necessitated modification of existing practices. The conclusions drawn reveal a musico-liturgical tradition that was not in real danger of extinction until the general decline of Western liturgy that followed in the eighteenth century, at which point the historiography of the tonus peregrinus became a factor stimulating scholarly and musical interest in its alleged pre-Christian origins. Lundberg demonstrates that the succession of works based on the tonus peregrinus often preserved a distinctly conservative musical and theological conception even during periods of drastic liturgical reform.
Book Synopsis Manichaeism and Its Legacy by : J. Kevin Coyle
Download or read book Manichaeism and Its Legacy written by J. Kevin Coyle and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2009-10-23 with total page 372 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume reproduces nineteen chapters and articles published between 1991 through 2008, on Manichaeism, and its contacts with Augustine of Hippo, its most famous convert and also best-known adversary. The contents are divided into four parts: perceptions of Mani within the Roman Empire, select aspects of Manichaean thought, women in Manichaeism, and Manichaeism and Augustine. Though these chapters and articles reproduce their originals, adjustments have been made to include cross-referencing, newer editions, and the like, all with the aim of rendering them more accessible to a new readership among those who follow the fortunes of Mani’s religion in the Roman Empire and/or the “Manichaean” aspects of Augustine of Hippo.

Book excerpt: Mani and Augustine: collected essays on Mani, Manichaeism and Augustine gathers in one volume contributions on Manichaean scholarship made by the internationally renowned scholar Johannes van Oort. The first part of the book focuses on the Babylonian prophet Mani (216-277) who styled himself an ‘apostle of Jesus Christ’, on Jewish elements in Manichaeism and on ‘human semen eucharist’, eschatology and imagery of Christ as ‘God’s Right Hand’. The second part of the book concentrates on the question to what extent the former ‘auditor’ Augustine became acquainted with Mani’s gnostic world religion and his canonical writings, and explores to what extent Manichaeism had a lasting impact on the most influential church father of the West.
Book Synopsis Psalms for Preaching and Worship by : Roger E. Van Harn
Download or read book Psalms for Preaching and Worship written by Roger E. Van Harn and published by Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing. This book was released on 2009-04-10 with total page 538 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Psalms for Preaching and Worship a key addition to the critically acclaimed three-volume Lectionary Commentary / Despite the rich resources available for studying the Psalms, few are as focused on their place in worship and preaching as is this volume. The responsorial Psalms of the Revised Common Lectionary are here taken up in careful and often illuminating interpretation with attention also to their interaction with other lectionary texts. The many ways that psalms can function meaningfully in the liturgical life of congregations are explored especially in John Witvliet s concluding section. I know of no work that combines practice and substance better than this lectionary commentary. Patrick D. Miller / Princeton Theological Seminary / A fascinating book well organized, well written and edited, thorough, and informative. . . . An excellent resource not only for preachers using the Revised Common Lectionary but also for those wishing to preach a series of sermons on the Psalms. In addition, worship leaders and worship committees will appreciate the many excellent ideas for using the Psalms in worship. Highly recommended. Sidney Greidanus / author of Preaching Christ from the Old Testament and Preaching Christ from Genesis / Here is something even better than a simple completion of The Lectionary Commentary, which would be cause enough for gratitude. . . . Serious attention paid to this one book could go a long way toward remedying the scandalous neglect of the treasure of the Psalms in too much contemporary worship.
