The same night she spoke these words, the world as I knew it came to an end. Jenny was gone.Life was good for Rebecca and her only daughter, Jenny. They had survived the rough teen years, and Jenny was starting college. Three short weeks into her freshman year, every parent's worst nightmare happened-Jenny was involved in a fatal car crash. The world as Rebecca knew it came to an end. Lost and alone, Young had to overcome this tragedy in order to survive. This poignant memoir of a mother's undying love shows that you cannot only survive the depths of the valley of the shadow of death, but can soar above it.Losing Jenny: A Walk Through the Valleyis a must read for any parent dealing with the loss of a child. 'Any parent who has suffered the loss of a child will be touched and blessed by this moving story. With great honesty and raw emotion, Rebecca shares her journey from the depths of grief and despair toward peace, acceptance, and the ability to go on living when her life seemed over. This is an important book because it helps us understand that grief is not something to be ashamed of or avoided, but something good and vital. The fact that we grieve deeply is proof that we love deeply. Rev. Peter Larson, Senior Pastor, Lebanon Presbyterian Church, Master of Divinity, Princeton Theological Seminary

Book excerpt: A Walk Through David’s Garden is a daily devotional that takes you through the book of Psalms with the clear and compelling goal of magnifying the great God of the Bible. Written in an easy-to-read yet theologically sublime style, the devotional will give you a newfound love for God. At the conclusion of each day’s devotion, there is a “word of the day,” which explains a theological concept in your daily reading. For instance, the first word of the day is “righteous,” which the author explains means to conform to a correct standard. He writes, “Men can only be righteous if God makes them so. When anyone believes Jesus Christ the Righteous One, God declares that sinner to be righteous; that is, God declares him to be without guilt. All other paths to righteousness include man’s self-effort and lead to a very dark place.” Gaining a love for the psalms by reading this work will not only feed your soul—it will also cause you to sing a new song to God for all His mighty acts.

Book excerpt: The Old Testament is a formidable book, a historic journey moving from creation, through the time of Noah and the flood to Abraham and his descendants, Moses and the children of Israel, high priests, judges, kings, and the spoken words of God through the prophets. In my studies of the books of the Old Testament, I find that GodaEUR(tm)s purpose and revelations are obscured with pages and pages of detail that makes for cumbersome reading and a somewhat distant grasp of its inspirations. I wrote this book to summarize the main points, from Genesis to Malachi, and to provide the historical elements such as dates to tie the story to historical settings and events. I have also pointed out along the way the presence of Christ and the Holy Spirit in these Old Testament writings. Most of the books of the Old Testament are prophetic. There were approximately eight hundred prophesies in the Old Testament; and a large portion, approximately six hundred, have been fulfilled. There is not a single biblical prophecy that pertains to a time that has now passed that is not fulfilled. My goal is for this writing to serve as an easy and comfortable format for the reader to get to know God, who we are to Him, why we are here, and to discover His wonderful pathway leading to eternal life. I want to reach those who are led to the Word of God and, upon opening up a Bible and reading a few pages, become discouraged by its vastness and disconnect of such long-ago times. The Old Testament truly has a long but remarkable timeline of history, and I have endeavored to tie its writings accordingly, in a brief walk through these inspired books of the Word of God.

She writes to create the awareness that one doesn't have to go through hardships alone, that God is always there to guide those who choose to follow.

Book excerpt: One day Eva Piper was an elementary school teacher, the mother of three, the beloved wife of a strong, protective husband. The next day she stood at the bedside of a broken man who could do nothing but moan in agony and turn his head away from her. Later she would learn that he had died and actually experienced heaven before being prayed back to life—a true miracle. Don Piper’s testimony, told in the New York Times bestseller 90 Minutes in Heaven, would one day bring hope to thousands. But all that was in the future. Despite family and friends who kept vigil with her, Eva Piper found herself essentially alone. Walking in the dark. And she had always hated the dark. Though it parallels that of her husband, Eva Piper’s account is quite different from his. It takes readers not to heavenly places but through a very earthly maze of hospital corridors, insurance forms, tiring commutes from home to workplace and hospital, and lonely hours of waiting and worrying. This is the story of a woman learning, step by darkened step, to go places she never thought she could go and growing into a person she never thought she could be. Packed with hard-earned wisdom about what it means to be a caregiver, to open yourself to the care of others, and to rest in God’s provision, this bookprovides a dependable source of light to help you walk through the dark.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For Somerville this was a kind of pilgrimage, a journey unlike any he had undertaken in 20 years of travel-writing. It was an expedition where he traded the usual comforts and certainties for a real physical and mental challenge, with no mobile phone or other technological aids. The only plan for his journey was to begin in the East at Easter and finish at Whitsun in the extreme West, at the Monastery of the Golden Step, whose gold step, legend says, can only be seen by those who have purged themselves into purity. During his 300-mile walk, he tackled four mountain ranges, high slopes and the numerous gorges of the West. Speaking only basic Greek and trying to follow a poorly way-marked path, he had to rely on his own instincts when climbing mountain passes and crossing high plateaux, farming and shepherding country, where villages are scarce and each night's accommodation was uncertain. He saw a Crete few ever encounter.

Book excerpt: “As poet, prophet, and priest, Thurman builds upon a powerful legacy of ancestral hope: belief in a liberating God who can always be found ‘in and among the struggling.’” —Yolanda Pierce A universal beacon of hope and endurance for people of all faiths seeking to meet the challenges, uncertainties, and joys of life Howard Thurman’s Meditations of the Heart is a beautiful collection of over 150 prayers, poems, and meditations on prayer, community, and the joys and rituals of life by one of our greatest spiritual leaders. Thurman, a spiritualist and mystic, was renowned for the quiet beauty of his reflections on humanity and our relationship with God. In a new foreword, Yolanda Pierce, dean of Howard University’s School of Divinity, calls attention to the justice-centered theological framework of Thurman’s words. Pierce notes how Thurman brings to light an image of God who can always be found “in and among the struggling,” both in times of weariness and in strength. First written for and shared with his congregation of the Church for the Fellowship of All Peoples in San Francisco, California, these meditations sustain, elevate, and inspire. They are a universal beacon of hope and endurance for people of all faiths seeking to meet the challenges, uncertainties, and joys of everyday life with a renewed and liberating faith.
