Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Lord Jesus, I can't do this without you." This is the essence of my life, and it became really evident to me after I heard the words, "You have cancer." I am a Christian woman who prays. I have spent years writing down my prayers in journals. I didn't decide to write this book; the Lord impressed upon me that I was going to write about this journey from the beginning when everything began to happen. That was probably so I'd chronicle what was happening in my journals. This book is the result of what transpired during the first couple of years after discovering I had a lump in my breast. Fighting cancer changed me. I learned to fight for my life. Losing meant death, so every day I had to stand in that place of faith. I found ways that worked for me to reinforce my faith and belief that God would heal me. Repeating the words, I am alive, full of vitality, and victorious, was one of the ways I stood in faith to believe I'd survive. I prayed for great faith because I had doubts, Jesus said believe and do not doubt; every doubt was an attack against me. I had other people praying for me so that my faith level would increase. I fought every day to live and did whatever was necessary to insure I'd survive. I did not put my faith in doctors or chemotherapy or radiation. I put my faith in God. The doctors and radiation treatments gave me hope that I'd get better, but I wanted to be healed.

In Texting Through Cancer, Woodard shares the peace she found in surrendering her cancer to God. Through 42 reflections she offers practical ways to find beauty in ordinary moments. Woven throughout her meditations are 12 spiritual practices that challenge readers to explore their own faith more deeply. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "We tend to use words like miracle and mystery in the context of serendipity. In this frank and eloquent account of life transformed by cancer, Deanna Thompson explores these articles of faith as they are also wont to appear--on the hard edges of hope and the dark side of joy." --Krista Tippett, from the Foreword Hoping for More is a story of a young religion professor with a stage IV cancer diagnosis and a lousy prognosis for the future. Amid the grief and the grace of her fractured life, this theologian--who is also a wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend--searches for words adequate to express her faltering faith. More Anne Lamott meets Harold Kushner than the teller of a pious, God-saved-me-from-cancer tale, Thompson unpacks the messy realities that arise when faith and suffering collide. Told in shimmering prose, Hoping for More takes readers on an unsentimental journey through the valley of the shadow of cancer--beyond the predictable parameters of prayer, the church, even belief in life after death. What emerges is a novel approach to talking faith and accepting grace when hope is all you've got.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Retired after thirty-four years of teaching high school science, Ellen Washburn Gragg was enjoying her close-knit family and church community, traveling the world, quilting Life was good. Although she had no family history of breast cancer, no risk factors, and no warning, in 2006 she discovered her breast lump while traveling with the Friendship Force program in Japan, where the futon on which she and her husband slept made the lump more obvious and probably saved her life. She is now cancer-free. Ellen survived breast cancer by depending on both science and faith. As a scientist, she did extensive research, educating herself about the physiological process of treating her disease. As a Christian, she stepped into the embrace of her faith, her family, and her loving friends to sustain and nurture herself as she healed. By bringing both these arteries into the heart of her challenge, she was able to proceed confidently and wisely on her path to becoming cancer-free. In Lady of Hope, Ellen makes the science accessible and her faith inspirational. She shares not only her personal journey but specific information and coping strategies, from eating gingersnaps to relieve nausea to the Bible verses that have given her comfort and peace. Ellen's message keeps echoing through the book: be faithful and be informed. Cancer patients and caregivers will discover how to empower themselves mentally and spiritually, and learn why, at the end of her treatments, Ellen still says, "Life is good!"

Book excerpt: My mom would always tell me "God is in control." I never understood that until my diagnosis of Stage IV/Metastatic Breast Cancer (MBC) 12 years ago. I was terrified after learning that the average life expectancy of an MBC patient is only 3-5 years. I wanted to rush the process, rush God, and rush my healing. MBC is treatable but not curable. God placed it on my heart to share my story, but first I needed to be in an emotionally healthy place. A Survivor's Lens will walk you through my upbringing of coming from a loving family, my military service of 25 years, and my MBC journey. You will learn that all is not lost when diagnosed with any type of breast cancer. You can continue to live, thrive, and trust in God's agape love. After my story, there is a 30-day faith journal to help you flush out your thoughts and emotions as you move through your own cancer experience. You will be able to lock back and see how far God has brought you. God will never leave or forsake you.

In each author's unique voice, the stories detail the survivor's diagnosis and treatment as well as the faith, love, and support that sustained him or her through the cancer journey. The survivors range from Izzie Pittman, diagnosed with leukemia at just eleven months old, to LeeAnn Lapum, who discovered she had breast cancer in her mid-fifties after nearly twenty years of dealing with MS. This book is relatable and encouraging for anyone who has dealt with cancer or is currently walking through this daunting disease as each story reminds readers that God is always with us.
