General descriptions of large subgroups of the addicted population may only serve to iden tify issues pertinent to treatment and global treatment needs. How ever, specification of services needed is a first step in incorpora ting these in treatment. Clearly, women in treatment need many ser vices which, currently, are not typically available and may be criti cal for successful treatment of many of these women. REFERENCES Anderson, M. 1977. This book was released on 1990-02-01 with total page 640 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this congressionally mandated study, an expert committee of the Institute of Medicine takes a close look at where treatment for people with alcohol problems seems to be headed, and provides its best advice on how to get there. Careful consideration is given to how the creative growth of treatment can best be encouraged while keeping costs within reasonable limits. Particular attention is devoted to the importance of developing therapeutic approaches that are sensitive to the special needs of the many diverse groups represented among those who have developed problems related to their use of "man's oldest friend and oldest enemy." This book is the most comprehensive examination of alcohol treatment to date.

Book Synopsis Predicting Vocational Rehabilitation Outcomes for People with Alcohol Abuse/dependence by :
Download or read book Predicting Vocational Rehabilitation Outcomes for People with Alcohol Abuse/dependence written by and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: People with alcohol abuse/dependence disabilities are often faced with a complex recovery process due to the exacerbating and chronic aspects of their condition. Vocational rehabilitation for people with alcohol abuse/dependence can help individuals access and maintain employment, and through employment can enhance physical and psychological health and well-being. This study investigated the effects of demographic characteristics and vocational rehabilitation services on employment outcomes for consumers with alcohol abuse/dependence. Outcomes were analyzed using the Rehabilitation Services Administration (RSA) dataset for the fiscal year 2009 through the Chi-squared Automatic Interaction Detector (CHAID) analysis--a statistical method that extracts predictive information from datasets. Three exhaustive CHAID analyses were conducted to segment the large group of consumers into smaller homogeneous subgroups. The results of this study found that the VR consumers with alcohol abuse/dependence as their primary disability had significantly more unsuccessful employment outcomes if they received health benefits (i.e., Medicare and/or Medicaid). Furthermore, the receipt of cash benefits (i.e., SSI and/or SSDI) was also associated with significantly decreased positive employment outcomes. Vocational rehabilitation counseling, job placement services, and on-the-job supports were associated with successful employment outcomes for consumers with alcohol abuse/dependence. A further understanding of the most effective service delivery patterns can enhance outcomes; leading to sustained, competitive, quality employment for VR consumers with alcohol abuse/dependence disabilities.

Download or read book TIP 35: Enhancing Motivation for Change in Substance Use Disorder Treatment (Updated 2019) written by U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2019-11-19 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Motivation is key to substance use behavior change. Counselors can support clients' movement toward positive changes in their substance use by identifying and enhancing motivation that already exists. Motivational approaches are based on the principles of person-centered counseling. Counselors' use of empathy, not authority and power, is key to enhancing clients' motivation to change. Clients are experts in their own recovery from SUDs. Counselors should engage them in collaborative partnerships. Ambivalence about change is normal. Resistance to change is an expression of ambivalence about change, not a client trait or characteristic. Confrontational approaches increase client resistance and discord in the counseling relationship. Motivational approaches explore ambivalence in a nonjudgmental and compassionate way.
