Book Synopsis Nonuniform Sampling by : Farokh Marvasti
Download or read book Nonuniform Sampling written by Farokh Marvasti and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 938 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Our understanding of nature is often through nonuniform observations in space or time. In space, one normally observes the important features of an object, such as edges. The less important features are interpolated. History is a collection of important events that are nonuniformly spaced in time. Historians infer between events (interpolation) and politicians and stock market analysts forecast the future from past and present events (extrapolation). The 20 chapters of Nonuniform Sampling: Theory and Practice contain contributions by leading researchers in nonuniform and Shannon sampling, zero crossing, and interpolation theory. Its practical applications include NMR, seismology, speech and image coding, modulation and coding, optimal content, array processing, and digital filter design. It has a tutorial outlook for practising engineers and advanced students in science, engineering, and mathematics. It is also a useful reference for scientists and engineers working in the areas of medical imaging, geophysics, astronomy, biomedical engineering, computer graphics, digital filter design, speech and video processing, and phased array radar.

Book Synopsis Digital Alias-free Signal Processing by : Ivars Bilinskis
Download or read book Digital Alias-free Signal Processing written by Ivars Bilinskis and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2007-09-27 with total page 454 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As demand for applications working in extended frequency ranges increases, classical Digital signal processing (DSP) techniques, not protected against aliasing, are becoming less effective. Digital alias-free signal processing (DASP) is a technique for overcoming the problems of aliasing at extended frequency ranges. Based on non-uniform or randomised sampling techniques and the development of novel algorithms, it creates the capacity to suppress potential aliasing crucial for high frequency applications and to reduce the complexity of designs. This book provides practical and comprehensive coverage of the theory and techniques behind alias-free digital signal processing. Key features: Analyses issues of sampling, randomised and pseudo-randomised quantisation and direct and indirectly randomised sampling. Examines periodic and hybrid sampling, including information on processing algorithms and potential limitations imposed by signal dynamics. Sets out leading methods and techniques for complexity reduced designs, in particular designs of large aperture sensor arrays, massive data acquisition and compression from a number of signal sources and complexity-reduced processing of non-uniform data. Presents examples of engineering applications using these techniques including spectrum analysis, waveform reconstruction and the estimation of various parameters, emphasising the importance of the technique for developing new technologies. Links DASP and traditional technologies by mapping them into embedded systems with standard inputs and outputs. Digital Alias-free Signal Processing is ideal for practising engineers and researchers working on the development of digital signal processing applications at extended frequencies. It is also a valuable reference for electrical and computer engineering graduates taking courses in signal processing or digital signal processing.

Book Synopsis Wide-Bandwidth High Dynamic Range D/A Converters by : Konstantinos Doris
Download or read book Wide-Bandwidth High Dynamic Range D/A Converters written by Konstantinos Doris and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-01-12 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: IGH-SPEED Digital to Analog (D/A) converters are essential components in digi- Htal communication systems providing the necessary conversion of signals encoding information in bits to signals encoding information in their amplitude vs. time domain characteristics. In general, they are parts of a larger system, the interface, which c- sists of several signal conditioning circuits. Dependent on where the converter is located within the chain of circuits in the interface, signal processing operations are partitioned in those realized with digital techniques, and those with analog. The rapid evolution of CMOS technology has established implicit and explicite trends related to the interface, and in particular to the D/A converter. The implicit relationship comes via the growth of digital systems. First, it is a global trend with respect to all interface circuits that increasing operating frequencies of digital systems place a similar demand for the interface circuits. The second trend takes place locally within the int- face. Initially, the D/A converter was placed at the beginning of the interface chain, and all signal conditioning was implemented in the analog domain after the D/A conversion. The increasing ?exibility and robustness of digital signal processing shifted the D/A converter closer to the end point of the chain where the demands for high quality high frequency operation are very high.

Book Synopsis Probabilistic and Stochastic Methods in Analysis, with Applications by : J.S. Byrnes
Download or read book Probabilistic and Stochastic Methods in Analysis, with Applications written by J.S. Byrnes and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 688 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Probability has been an important part of mathematics for more than three centuries. Moreover, its importance has grown in recent decades, since the computing power now widely available has allowed probabilistic and stochastic techniques to attack problems such as speech and image processing, geophysical exploration, radar, sonar, etc. -- all of which are covered here. The book contains three exceptionally clear expositions on wavelets, frames and their applications. A further extremely active current research area, well covered here, is the relation between probability and partial differential equations, including probabilistic representations of solutions to elliptic and parabolic PDEs. New approaches, such as the PDE method for large deviation problems, and stochastic optimal control and filtering theory, are beginning to yield their secrets. Another topic dealt with is the application of probabilistic techniques to mathematical analysis. Finally, there are clear explanations of normal numbers and dynamic systems, and the influence of probability on our daily lives.
Book Synopsis Recent Advances in Fourier Analysis and Its Applications by : J.S. Byrnes
Download or read book Recent Advances in Fourier Analysis and Its Applications written by J.S. Byrnes and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 675 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains papers presented at the July, 1989 NATO Advanced Study Institute on Fourier Analysis and its Applications. The conference, held at the beautiful II Ciocco resort near Lucca, in the glorious Tuscany region of northern Italy, created a dynamic in teraction between world-renowned scientists working in the usually disparate communities of pure and applied Fourier analysts. The papers to be found herein include important new results in x-ray crystallography by Nobel Laureate Herbert Hauptman, the application of the new concept of bispectrum to system identification by renowned probabilist Athanasios Papoulis, fascinating appli cations of number theory in Fourier analysis by eminent electrical engineer Manfred R. Schroeder, and exciting concepts regarding polynomials with restricted coefficients by foremost mathematical problem solver Donald J. Newman. The remaining papers further illustrate the inherent power and beauty of classical Fourier analysis, whether the results presented were sought as an end in themselves, or whether these classical methods were employed as a tool in illustrating and solving a particular applied problem. From antenna design to concert hall acoustics to image and speech processing to unimodular polynomi als, each conference participant benefited significantly from his or her exposure, in many cases for the first time, to those scientists on the other end of the spectrum from them selves. The purpose of this volume is to pass those benefits on to the reader.
