Nevertheless, modern era is stigmatized by marital distress and family degeneration, causing or/and exacerbating psychological as well as physical illness not only of the distressed couples, but also of their children and other family members. Partner relationship problem has become a botheration for mental health practitioners and pastoral counselors, and is one among the major reasons why people seek professional help. Hence, the purpose of this study was to come up with a Triangular Theory of Love Based Integrative Intervention Program for couples and to determine its effectiveness in reducing marital distress. The researcher utilized the true experimental research method, specifically between subjects: two independent groups (measures) design, administering pre-, post- and delayed posttests. This design determines if there were significant differences in the subjects level of marital distress before, after and three weeks after the administration of the intervention program. The study used eight factors of the standardized test Marital Satisfaction Inventory, Revised (MSI-R) in measuring the level of marital distress. 36 purposively selected couples from two distinct places of the south Indian state of Kerala participated in this study. The pretest mean scores and the independent sample t-test results revealed that the participants level of marital distress was high on most of the factors of MSI-R and that both groups were homogenous prior to the administration of the intervention program. The results also showed that there was a significant difference between the pretest and posttest mean scores of the experimental group who received treatment, and its posttest and delayed posttest mean scores indicated that the marital distress level shrank to moderate from high. Comparison of the posttest and delayed posttest results of the experimental group showed no significant difference in five factors, but significant reduction was observed in three factors. This would mean that the reduction of marital distress of the subjects in the experimental group was sustained even three weeks after the administration of the program and was further reduced after the administration of the posttest. Hence, the study suggests that the triangular theory of love based integrative interventon program was effective in reducing marital distress and enhancing marital satisfaction.

In all relationships, there will be stages of fluctuations. Intimacy and understanding may not always remain at a high level. Couples may sometimes feel that they are living with strangers, their passion ebbing out like a receding tide, and they may feel trapped in the same old arguments over finance or kids. And it is normal too. Life may seem to go in a monotonously boring way with all its daily stresses propelling emotional distance between the partners and ushering in boredom in the bedroom. However, the problem arises when partners neglect or fail to address these fluctuations in a constructive and positive manner. This will lead them to coldness and distance, conflicts of interests, disagreements in decisions, aggressiveness and violence in communication, even to the point of physical aggression, and ultimately, to the degeneration and dissolution of marriage and family. EFCCP proposes a novel style of communication based on Nonviolent Communication by Marshall Rosenberg and Emotionally Focused Therapy by Johnson. The program will teach the couples how to engage in a compassionate communication and how to relate to their own feelings and needs as well as to that of their partners in a constructive manner, leading to reconnection and healing.

Book excerpt: Meeting the complex needs of some of the most vulnerable populations in our society often involves the need for connected networks of care providing health, social care, educational and voluntary sector services. This presents major challenges for both clients and practitioners for this to work well. Adaptive mentalization based integrative treatment (AMBIT) has been developed over the last 15 years to address the needs of both clients and practitioners in trying to make this work well. The basic framework for AMBIT was set out by the authors in AMBIT: A Guide for Teams to Develop Systems of Care in 2017 but continues to evolve through collaboration with practitioners across the world who work with people (both young people and adults) for whom many current services are not experienced as helpful. AMBIT for People with Multiple Needs: Applications in Practice describes the progress of this collaboration and shows how AMBIT has been applied in health, social care and education settings across the world. Contributors convey the detail of what it is like to apply AMBIT to their work by combining case illustrations with detailed descriptions of therapeutic practice and technique, along with inspiring and remarkable stories of therapeutic change. The chapters examine therapeutic casework in very different services providing community and residential based care with adults and young people across Europe and the UK. With AMBIT constantly evolving, the book explores recent developments in the AMBIT model and provides rich new thinking about how "helping" services can be supported to provide meaningful help and change.

Book excerpt: Couples who enter therapy often view the endeavor as a last-ditch effort before seeking legal services, filing for divorce, and parting ways for good. Given this mentality at the outset, couples therapy is not always successful or enjoyable-for either the client or the therapist. It is also an area of practice that is often given short shrift in training programs that predominantly focus on clinical skills in work with children and adolescents, group work, practice in specific settings, and assessment and treatment of mental disorders. Innovative Skills to Increase Cohesion and Communication in Couples discusses evidence-based clinical techniques and skills that support and nurture couples in their relationship. Each chapter begins with a succinct overview of a technique, evidence that supports it, and ideas for assessment to ensure it is appropriate for the couple. Subsequent sections of each chapter provide clear examples of approaches so that new or seasoned clinicians will have requisite knowledge for effective implementation, required materials, suitable locations for use, and personal preparation. The text serves as an essential resource for clinicians, as well as social work, counseling, and psychology students and professors.

This volume is written for beginning psychotherapy practitioners in order to guide them through the complexities of sex therapy and help them to be more efficient in their treatment. The authors offer a unique theoretical approach to understanding and treating sexual problems from a systemic perspective, incorporating the multifaceted perspectives of the individual client, the couple, the family, and the other contextual factors. Both beginning and experienced sex/relationship therapists will broaden their perspectives with the Intersystem approach and gain information rarely seen in sex therapy texts such as: how to thoroughly assess each sexual disorder, the implementation of various treatment principles and techniques, how to incorporate homework, dealing with ethical dilemmas, understanding different expressions of sexual behavior, and addressing the impact of medical problems on sexuality. Aside from bringing the diagnostic criteria up-to-date with the DSM 5, this new edition contains a new chapter on sensate focus, an expanded section on assessment, more information about development across the lifespan, and more focus on diversity issues throughout the text.

This approach moves beyond traditional behavioral approaches to incorporate individual, couple, and intergenerational factors in etiology and treatment. Book excerpt: Integrative psychotherapy is a groundbreaking book where the authors present mindfulness- and compassion-oriented integrative psychotherapy (MCIP) as an integration of relational psychotherapy with the practice and research of mindfulness and compassion. The book elucidates an approach which is holistic and based on evidence-based processes of change related to the main dimensions of human experience. In this approach, mindfulness and compassion are viewed as meta-processes of change that are used within an attuned therapeutic relationship to create a powerful therapeutic model that provides transformation and growth. The authors offer an exciting perspective on intersubjective physiology and the mutual connection between the client’s and therapist’s autonomic nervous systems. Comprised of creatively applied research, the book will have an international appeal amongst psychotherapists/counsellors from different psychotherapy traditions and also students with advanced/postgraduate levels of experience.

Book excerpt: This book intends to open the debate between three main aspects of clinical practice: psychotherapy (including psychological and philosophical influences), neurobiology and pharmacology. These three main themes are clinically applied in what we call the “Intervention Triangle”. The book will first focus on epistemologically distinct frameworks and gradually attempt to consider the integration of these three fundamental vertexes of practice. These vertexes are substantially unbalanced in the mental health field, and thus, this book tries to make sense of this phenomenon. Unique in its interdisciplinary and comprehensive view of mental health problems and approaches, this book offers a new perspective on unidisciplinary integration that previous publications have not considered. As an innovative contribution to its field, this volume will be particularly relevant to practitioners working towards integrative frameworks. It will also be of interest to students, clinicians and researchers, in particular, those working in psychology, medicine, psychiatry, philosophy, social work, and pharmacy.

Such a vast amount of data is useless without plans and strategies that are designed to cope with its size and complexity, and which enable organisations to leverage the information to create value. This book is a refreshingly practical, yet theoretically sound roadmap to leveraging big data and analytics. Creating Value with Big Data Analytics provides a nuanced view of big data development, arguing that big data in itself is not a revolution but an evolution of the increasing availability of data that has been observed in recent times. Building on the authors’ extensive academic and practical knowledge, this book aims to provide managers and analysts with strategic directions and practical analytical solutions on how to create value from existing and new big data. By tying data and analytics to specific goals and processes for implementation, this is a much-needed book that will be essential reading for students and specialists of data analytics, marketing research, and customer relationship management.
