Book excerpt: It is a serious problem when society misunderstands or disregards sin and repentance. But when the church neglects these doctrines, the impact is profound. This book unfolds the nature and necessity of biblical repentance, but for the church in particular. Roberts' in-depth study heavily references both he Old and New Testaments, and includes chapters on the myths, maxims, marks, models, and motives of repentance, as well as the graces and fruits that accompany it. There is also wise warning about the dangers of delayed repentance.

Book excerpt: This work is written with a law enforcement officer?s investigative mindset and from the perspective of a prisoner.I discovered through a survey of Christian bookstores that no books were exclusively on or about repentance, but most only touched on the topic. The only author who had anything to say about repentance beyond a mere mention was Charles G. Finney in Finney?s Systematic Theology. This 600-page work transformed my thinking and influenced my investigation. This book discusses spiritual leadership without bashing any spiritual leader. It points out carnality without castigating any particular ministry or denomination. Hundreds of illustrations will familiarize the reader with revelations about repentance and carnality. These illustrations, like parables, contain revolutionary truths that are true to Scripture, reason, and life, so that Repentance: The Doctrine of God may become one harmonious revelation!Warning: As you read this book, you will encounter deep-seated carnality residing within the blackened depths of your soul, and it will not want to be exposed! But take heart?Almighty God will accompany you on this journey for the complete regeneration of your soul.

The Lord touched my heart spiritually, speaking to write a book about my life as an unredeemed sinner before I received saving faith (salvation in Christ) and then to let the world know how this all came about for me. This is how I got the title of my book; it is from what I went through as an unredeemed person and to also present to those who will read this book how the Lord Jesus Christ manifested His amazing saving power upon my life, and it was from repenting from my heart to the Lord of everything that I have ever done wrong in my life meaning (my sins as a sinner) and crying out for help, which I desperately needed at that time of my life and to trust that He will come to my rescue to save and deliver me from that dark lifestyle that I once lived. Truly, I tell you, with being a witness, repentance and faith in Christ and what He has already done at Calvary's cross will release such an amazing power to come upon your life. I say to you all today--are you ready for a new life? Have you been searching for help? Are you ready for change? If you answered yes to any of these questions, I encourage you to let this book be an inspiration and a great pattern to apply to your life, and Jesus Christ will be your change Agent.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Repentance is a gift—because coming to the realization of ourselves as sinners opens our hearts to the gospel. And while consciousness of our sins is uncomfortable, it is also a cause for hope. In those feelings of guilt, says popular Scripture commentator Kevin Perrotta, God is calling us to return to him. The first three sessions of this Bible study are designed to spur readers to reflect on their own experience of recognizing their sins and taking action against them. The second three sessions focus on Jesus, who calls us to grow in love beyond anything that is easy or comfortable for us—and enables us to do it by nourishing us with himself.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Repent, the Kingdom of God is near. Where there is law, there is sin and where there is sin, there is the salary that is death. Man, by his disobedience, broke his covenant with God. This created a barrier in his relationship with God. As the Lord God is compassionate God, He does not please in the death of the wicked, but He wants him to repent and have eternal life. He says it in his word: "God loved the world so much that He gave His only Son so that anyone who believes may not perish but have eternal life" (John 3:16). To restore this relationship torn because of the sin, God turns towards the man He had created in his own image and according to his likeness. He gave him the way to encounter Him, the way of repentance. It’s all the author recalls in this book the immensity of God's love in these times of the end that precede the return of Jesus Christ. He talks about it in detail so that everyone can review their lives and embark on the path of salvation.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Reconciliation is at the heart of the Christian faith. It is what God accomplishes by the incarnation of his Son, by Jesus’ cross, resurrection, and exaltation: that all people be drawn to God in Christ, and, in being so drawn, drawn into fellowship with one another. The good news of reconciliation is, therefore, also a call to repent and to receive forgiveness, and then, concomitantly, to forgive. The present volume endeavors to reexamine these most fundamental Christian claims. These essays, which were first presented at the 2017 annual Pro Ecclesia conference, return to the biblical sources to help us understand reconciliation afresh. The authors raise questions about repentance and forgiveness from various perspectives: Jewish, Roman Catholic, Orthodox, and Protestant. They also consider our present-day context, what has been called the “technoculture,” as well as the practice of repentance and forgiveness. With contributions by: Stephen Westerholm Ellen T. Charry Dominic Langevin, O. P. Peter C. Bouteneff Brent Waters John P. Burgess

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 'Evangelical Repentance,” Puritan author John Colquhoun traces the grace of repentance to the work of the Holy Spirit in regeneration, showing how it flows out of a true, spiritual sight and sense of sin. This gracious repentance is a turning of the whole man from all that is sinful and hateful to God. 'The sincere penitent', Colquhoun writes, 'forsakes all iniquity from right principles, by right motives, in a right manner, and to a right end.' Colquhoun shows the reasons why evangelical repentance is absolutely necessary, and carefully distinguishes it from mere legal repentance and all counterfeit and superficial remorse for sin. The latter he states is an abomination to God since it does not flow from a heart regenerated by grace and purified by faith. The fruits and evidences of real repentance, such as Paul outlines in 2 Corinthians 7, are discussed. Colquhoun then goes on to elaborate the priority of that justifying faith which secures forgiveness and comes before the exercise of evangelical repentance. The influence of the Marrow theology, and especially of Thomas Boston, is highly evident here. Colquhoun's work, in line with the writings of the Marrowmen, breathes the warmth of the glorious gospel and, whilst it is most solemn in its denunciation of all sin, it is full of evangelical consolation to believers seeking a greater assurance of their knowledge of Christ. In addition to defining the meaning of true repentance, Colquhoun demonstrates how this blessed exercise of soul may be obtained. Since Christ is exalted to give repentance, we are to trust in him for it as well as for pardoning grace. We are to choose God in Christ as our covenant-God and portion. We must be frequent and earnest in prayer for the grace of repentance. Furthermore, we must endeavor to see sin in its hatefulness, especially the sin of our nature. The contemplation of the death of Christ is essential if we would see the awfulness of sin and what it deserves, and we should meditate much on death and judgment to come. Without a doubt, the topic handled so judiciously and profitably in this book by John Colquhoun is of the highest importance to every Christian, and an excellent addition to any library.
