Book excerpt: Caralyn McCreigh has always believed in three things: that her father, Daniel, would never force her into marriage; that she could have a storybook romance with a man who sweeps her off her feet and a loving marriage like the one her parents share; and that Queen Isabella’s legendary lost treasure, Izzy’s Fortune, exists. When her father tells her that her marriage has been arranged, all her beliefs are shattered, and she does exactly as he hopes she will - embarks on a quest to find Izzy’s Fortune. She believes that if she finds the treasure, she’ll be able to buy herself out of a marriage to a man she doesn’t know or love. And who better to help her than Captain Trey, the infamous treasure hunter? Tristan Youngblood, captain of the Adventurer and future Earl of Winterbourne, would much rather sail the oceans and search for lost treasure than settle down and take over the reigns of the Winterbourne estates. However, when he receives news that his future has been decided for him, he knows he has no choice. He has no qualms against marriage itself, except for what he witnessed in the misery of his parents' union. He does not desire the same for himself, so instead of rushing home to England to court his future wife, Tristan accepts Caralyn’s proposal and embarks on one last grand adventure to search for Izzy’s Fortune.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Spirit and In Truth Rediscovering the Message of Jesus Two thousand years ago, a Jewish carpenter with a small band of followers introduced ideas and concepts that shook the religious world down to its very foundations. Two thousand years later, the two-billion-person, multibillion-dollar religious infrastructure it spawned impacts the entire globe, but seems to have lost touch with many of the core ideas introduced by Jesus in the days when he and his disciples walked around Galilee. This book seeks to help readers rediscover the warmth, comfort, and relevance of Jesus by encouraging its readers to take another closer look at his essential message.

Book excerpt: The tale begins over three-hundred years ago, when the Fair People—the goblins, fairies, dragons, and other fabled and fantastic creatures of a dozen lands—fled the Old World for the New, seeking haven from the ways of Man. With them came their precious jewels: diamonds, rubies, emeralds, pearls... But then the Fair People vanished, taking with them their twelve fabulous treasures. And they remained hidden until now... Across North America, these twelve treasures, over ten-thousand dollars in precious jewels, are buried. The key to finding each can be found within the twelve full color paintings and verses of The Secret. Yet The Secret is much more than that. At long last, you can learn not only the whereabouts of the Fair People's treasure, but also the modern forms and hiding places of their descendants: the Toll Trolls, Maitre D'eamons, Elf Alphas, Tupperwerewolves, Freudian Sylphs, Culture Vultures, West Ghosts and other delightful creatures in the world around us. The Secret is a field guide to them all. Many "armchair treasure hunt" books have been published over the years, most notably Masquerade (1979) by British artist Kit Williams. Masquerade promised a jewel-encrusted golden hare to the first person to unravel the riddle that Williams cleverly hid in his art. In 1982, while everyone in Britain was still madly digging up hedgerows and pastures in search of the golden hare, The Secret: A Treasure Hunt was published in America. The previous year, author and publisher Byron Preiss had traveled to 12 locations in the continental U.S. (and possibly Canada) to secretly bury a dozen ceramic casques. Each casque contained a small key that could be redeemed for one of 12 jewels Preiss kept in a safe deposit box in New York. The key to finding the casques was to match one of 12 paintings to one of 12 poetic verses, solve the resulting riddle, and start digging. Since 1982, only two of the 12 casques have been recovered. The first was located in Grant Park, Chicago, in 1984 by a group of students. The second was unearthed in 2004 in Cleveland by two members of the Quest4Treasure forum. Preiss was killed in an auto accident in the summer of 2005, but the hunt for his casques continues.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Life has a way of tilting. Jobs are lost. Children leave. Homes foreclose. Spouses die. Everyone experiences the loss of something or someone precious at some point. And more often than not a loss is unexpected, certainly unwanted, and can be our undoing. Miriam Neff, M.A. in counseling, has experienced loss in many manifestations from her beloved soul mate Bob going home to the Lord to a close family member’s incarceration. Yet, she has learned “that good things are still possible.” “Life is like a kaleidoscope. We point our sphere toward the light, peer in, and see a beautiful array of glass and stones reflecting beauty, diversity, and contrast. We adjust the lens, and another beautiful, yet different combination of color evolves. Then suddenly the kaleidoscope is thrust to face a black hole. No light means no beautiful display. When you timidly, maybe fearfully, tilt your kaleidoscope back toward the light, you’ll see a new combination you’ve never seen before, colors you didn’t know existed. Location and contrast create new and unexpected beauty. “ More than a “survival” book, Where Do I go From Here raises the bar in life after loss to include love, laughter, and adventure. This is a book about facing forward, not backwards. It is about purposely moving into a bolder and broader future. Includes practical help and chapter discussion questions for individual or group study.

Book excerpt: In their early years, the Chicago Bears and the Chicago Cardinals-- the two oldest teams in the National Football League --travelled the country with only rare mention in the newspapers. Both teams later saw their official records destroyed by fire. Most of what is now known about those initial seasons is based on often inaccurate statements made many years later. Reconstructing their missing history, this book draws on newly available resources to document the battles and brawls on and off the field, the cunning backroom deals, the financial woes and the 40-year rivalry that endured while both teams were in Chicago. Figures like Al Capone, Red Grange, Jim Thorpe and Bronko Nagurski make appearances in the lore of two old adversaries whose uneasy alliance helped ensure the survival of the fledgling NFL.
