Download or read book Investigation of Traveling Wave Parametric and Hybrid Coupled Tunnel Diode Amplifiers written by D. FLERI and published by . This book was released on 1961 with total page 1 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The theory, design, construction and performanc of a tunnel diode hybrid coupled amplifier is presented with particular emphasis on gain, bandwidth, oise figure, and stability. The experimental unit developed exhibits maximum gainAND MINIMUM NOISE FIGURE AT APPROXIMATELY 100 MV AND 140 MV BIAS RESPECTIVELY. At an operating bias of 120 mv the amplifier provides 8 db to 13 db gain over the 125 to 500 mcs frequency range. Measurements of 225 and 400 mc indicate the amplifier noise figure to be approximately 4.5 db. Amplifier stability formed an importa t aspect of this investigation. For stable operation it is necessary (and sufficient) that each amplifier module itself be stable when connected to the hybrid and that the loop gain between the input and output ports of the amplifier be less tha unity. Book Synopsis Thin-film Wideband Tunnel-diode Amplifier by : Edmund Jui-ching Hsieh
Download or read book Thin-film Wideband Tunnel-diode Amplifier written by Edmund Jui-ching Hsieh and published by . This book was released on 1966 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wideband tunnel-diode amplifiers using common-base transistor stages for isolation were investigated for stability criteria, frequency response, and the effects of temperature and voltage supply fluctuations. For the first time the full frequency spectrum of a tunnel-diode, from d-c to the gigahertz (GHz) range, was able to be utilized in an amplifier. Three experimental circuits constructed by conventional as well as thin-film techniques were tested. They represented a workable model of a new design of a tunnel-diode amplifier capable of having constant gain over a frequency spectrum from d-c to one-half GHz. It was shown that this design principle could be applied to extend the upper frequency limit to a few GHz if higher frequency tunnel-diodes and better circuit construction techniques are employed.

Download or read book MICROWAVE TUNNEL DIODE MIXER-AMPLIFIER. written by W. B. Hauer and published by . This book was released on 1962 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Experimental tunnel diode mixers were designed and tested in L-, S-, and C-bands. The lowest measured noise figures were approximately 6 db in L-band, 6.5 db in S-band, and 8.5 db in C- band, as determined with an i.f.-amplifier noise figure of 2.5 db, and a 3-db i.f. bandwidth of 8 Mc centered at 60 Mc. Gallium antimonide diodes tended to yield somewhat lower noise figures than germanium diodes in all three bands. These experimental results are compared with the theoretical properties of an idealized equivalent circuit which was introduced to determine theoretical trends and tendencies worthy of experimental investigation. Book Synopsis The Waveguide Tunnel Diode Amplifier: Design Considerations by : J. J Ayoub (Jr)
Download or read book The Waveguide Tunnel Diode Amplifier: Design Considerations written by J. J Ayoub (Jr) and published by . This book was released on 1968 with total page 21 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An analytic design procedure for waveguide tunnel diode amplifiers based on the use of commercially available packaged tunnel diodes and the manufacturer furnished specifications for these devices is outlined. This approach is found to be inadequate for the realization of an amplifier that must meet specified performance criteria. However, the waveguide structure resulting from this design procedure should be suitable for performing microwave frequency measurements that will allow a more complete characterization of the waveguide tunnel diode network and therefore a more exact design procedure. The extreme fragility of high resistive cutoff frequency tunnel diodes requires that extreme care be used in the mounting and biasing of these devices. Pressure- and shock-absorbing devices should be used in the mounting structure to avoid destruction of the tunnel diode. It is concluded that the realization of tunnel diode amplifiers for frequencies above 26 GHz will necessitate new packaging techniques and possibly even new fabrication techniques for the tunnel diode itself. Book Synopsis CIRCUIT APPLICATION OF TUNNEL DIODES. by : William F. King
Download or read book CIRCUIT APPLICATION OF TUNNEL DIODES. written by William F. King and published by . This book was released on 1961 with total page 1 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Theoretical and experimental studies with tunnel diodes in various configurations are discussed. Small signal applications where noise and stability are of primary concern are considered first. In these applications, dynamic range is not a factor except where it is involved in establishing or ensuring the correct operating point for the circuit. Large signal applications where the static bias conditions are essential to the treatment and operation of the circuit are then considered. Here the signals, bias and dynamic range are of the same order of magnitude. The theory of circuits in which the negative resistance property of the tunnel diode is directly involved in the analytic treatment is discussed. The general areas of success and difficulty are treated and guide lines for future efforts are given. (Author).
Book Synopsis THEORETICAL AND EXPERIMENTAL INVESTIGATION OF TRANSFERRED-ELECTRON AMPLIFIERS. by : Ashok Kumar Talwar
Download or read book THEORETICAL AND EXPERIMENTAL INVESTIGATION OF TRANSFERRED-ELECTRON AMPLIFIERS. written by Ashok Kumar Talwar and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 253 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: FIERS. Both subcritically doped as well as supercritically doped devices are considered. A large-signal analysis of subcritically doped, negative conductance-type devices is developed. The analysis is one-dimensional and includes the effects of diffusion, where the diffusion coefficient is dependent upon the electric field. First-order nonlinear equations involving the dc and RF electric fields in the material are obtained for given dc and RF currents driven through the diode. The equations are solved on a digital computer and the results are presented. Various dc and RF characteristics of the diodes are examined. The effects of diffusion, bandwidth considerations, the effects of bias, temperature effects and the effects of doping density are discussed. The experimental study of stable negative conductance amplifiers is presented.
