Download or read book A Systematic Catalogue of the Zygaenidae written by Hoffmann and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2023-10-09 with total page 251 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work reflects modern concepts of systematics at the generic, specific and subspecific levels and aims to update the now outdated catalogue by Reiss & Tremewan (1967), and to bring stability into the nomenclature. The author, date and literature reference of each nominal taxon are cited, together with full synonymies. Type localities of taxa at species and subspecies levels are provided, as well as the range of each species and the distribution of each subspecies. Larval host-plants are listed under each zygaenid species (and vice-versa) and are also indexed by family and species. Literature references are annotated with the same key-words that were used in the Bibliography, to which the Catalogue is a companion and to which this work also contains an updating supplement. It concludes with an index of valid nominal taxa and their synoyms.
Book Synopsis A Systematic Catalogue of the Zygaenidae (Lepidoptera: Zygaenidae) & a Bibliography of the Zygaenidae (Lepidoptera: Zygaenidae) by : A. Hoffmann
Download or read book A Systematic Catalogue of the Zygaenidae (Lepidoptera: Zygaenidae) & a Bibliography of the Zygaenidae (Lepidoptera: Zygaenidae) written by A. Hoffmann and published by Brill. This book was released on 1996 with total page 440 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Zygaeninae, commonly known as Burnets, are diurnal, mostly aposematic moths that occur in the Palaearctic, Oriental and Afrotropical regions. Although the sub-family consists of only 116 extant species that are currently recognized as valid, their frequent and sometimes extreme individual variation, their extensive geographical variation, and their fascinating biology, have long attracted the attention of both the professional and amateur lepidopterist.

This book was released on 2013-12-14 with total page 342 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is forty years since Burgeff published, in 1926, the first comprehensive catalogue of the genus Zygaena Fabricius, forming part 33 of the Lepidopterorum Catalogus. Following the pattern and general layout of Burgeff's work, we have attempted to produce a catalogue in which all names in the genus Zygaena are included, with references to the literature where these names were originally published. Additional references are included when these refer to illustrations of a species, subspecies or form, or to a taxonomic change, e.g., a change in status. References to misidentifications are generally omitted unless a new species has been described at a later date. In compiling this work we have adhered to the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature as adopted by the XV International Congress of Zoology. However, although the International Commission on Zoological Nomenclature recognises the necessity of names of lower rank than subspecies, they do not at present deal with such names. The provisions of the Code do not apply to them and, therefore, such names have no nomenclatural status. Every subspecies is given equal status in the catalogue although their relative value is not always the same. Certain authors have very often separated sub species on minute differences and a subsequent examination of further material, taken over a number of years, has shown that the differences are not always constant. In many cases, however, we have been unable to verify the status of each subspecies.

Download or read book A Bibliography of the Zygaenidae written by Tremewan and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2023-11-27 with total page 188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Zygaeninae (burnets) are diurnal, aposematic moths which occur in the Palaearctic, Oriental and Afrotropical regions. The unusual biology of this small subfamily of fewer than 120 species has inspired research on their ecology, chemical ecology, pheromone biology, ethology and mimicry, in addition to systematics, life history, larval host plants, genetics and geographical and individual variation. This bibliography of about 2750 entries has been checked against the original publications and is as complete as possible to the end of 1986. It is comprehensively indexed by subject and bibliography reference number.

Book Synopsis The Western Palaearctic Zygaenidae (Lepidoptera) by : Clas M. Naumann
Download or read book The Western Palaearctic Zygaenidae (Lepidoptera) written by Clas M. Naumann and published by Brill. This book was released on 1999 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A complete handbook which will provide an extensive introduction to the biology, ecology and behaviour of the Zygaenidae, a group of diurnal moths that has become one of the most intensively studied models of chemical and evolutionary biology. Consequently, the introduction will provide detailed information on zygaenid systematics and phylogeny, life cycles, morphology, zoogeography and palaeontology, genetics and individual variation, ecology and behaviour, conservation, collecting and breeding techniques. The general part concludes with an essay on the history of research on the Zygaenidae. In the systematic part of the book, the 115 species of westen Palaearctic Zygaenidae, currently contained in the three subfamilies Procridinae, Chalcosiinae and Zygaeninae, will be treated. Each species is briefly described, followed by ifferentiating characters of similar species, individual and geographical variation, distribution (with maps for each species), ecology, behaviour, early instars and larval foodplants. Colour plates illustrates all species and the male and female genitalia of the Procridinae are also figured. A bibliography will provide references to the most relevant literature for those interested in current research. 12 colour plates. Line drawings of genitalia. Distribution maps to all species. Other text figures.

Book excerpt: This book is an attempt to summarize all knowledge and enable entomologists to identify all species belonging to these four genera. Moreover, this work complements to the The western Palaearctic Zygaenidae and it will later be accompanied by a distribution atlas. A short summary of the characters of the Procridinae, comments on possible phylogenetic relationships, a complete check-list of species and all known synonyms, an identification key with genitalia drawings of all species, a systematic catalogue with type localities and depositories of types, data on the distribution, and annotated list of all known larval foodplants, description of new biologies and a detailed bibliography are provided. Moreover, illustrations of wing venation, morphology of antennae and legs, larval morphology, so far unpublished photos of larvae and their foodplants and colour paintings of all mentioned species are included.
