Book excerpt: Applied Graph Theory: Graphs and Electrical Networks, Second Revised Edition provides a concise discussion of the fundamentals of graph and its application to the electrical network theory. The book emphasizes the mathematical precision of the concepts and principles involved. The text first covers the basic theory of graph, and then proceeds to tackling in the next three chapters the various applications of graph to electrical network theory. These chapters also discuss the foundations of electrical network theory; directed-graph solutions of linear algebraic equations; and topological analysis of linear systems. Next, the book covers trees and their generation. Chapter 6 deals with the realizability of directed graphs with prescribed degrees, while Chapter 7 talks about state equations of networks. The book will be of great use to researchers of network topology, linear systems, and circuitries.

Book Synopsis Mathematical Modelling by : Murray S. Klamkin
Download or read book Mathematical Modelling written by Murray S. Klamkin and published by SIAM. This book was released on 1987-01-01 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Designed for classroom use, this book contains short, self-contained mathematical models of problems in the physical, mathematical, and biological sciences first published in the Classroom Notes section of the SIAM Review from 1975-1985. The problems provide an ideal way to make complex subject matter more accessible to the student through the use of concrete applications. Each section has extensive supplementary references provided by the editor from his years of experience with mathematical modelling.
Download or read book Graphs and Order written by Ivan Rival and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 798 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains the accounts of the principal survey papers presented at GRAPHS and ORDER, held at Banff, Canada from May 18 to May 31, 1984. This conference was supported by grants from the N.A.T.O. Advanced Study Institute programme, the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada and the University of Calgary. We are grateful for all of this considerable support. Almost fifty years ago the first Symposium on Lattice Theory was held in Charlottesville, U.S.A. On that occasion the principal lectures were delivered by G. Birkhoff, O. Ore and M.H. Stone. In those days the theory of ordered sets was thought to be a vigorous relative of group theory. Some twenty-five years ago the Symposium on Partially Ordered Sets and Lattice Theory was held in Monterey, U.S.A. Among the principal speakers at that meeting were R.P. Dilworth, B. Jonsson, A. Tarski and G. Birkhoff. Lattice theory had turned inward: it was concerned primarily with problems about lattices themselves. As a matter of fact the problems that were then posed have, by now, in many instances, been completely solved.

Book Synopsis Handbook of the Tutte Polynomial and Related Topics by : Joanna A. Ellis-Monaghan
Download or read book Handbook of the Tutte Polynomial and Related Topics written by Joanna A. Ellis-Monaghan and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2022-07-06 with total page 743 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Tutte Polynomial touches on nearly every area of combinatorics as well as many other fields, including statistical mechanics, coding theory, and DNA sequencing. It is one of the most studied graph polynomials. Handbook of the Tutte Polynomial and Related Topics is the first handbook published on the Tutte Polynomial. It consists of thirty-four chapters written by experts in the field, which collectively offer a concise overview of the polynomial’s many properties and applications. Each chapter covers a different aspect of the Tutte polynomial and contains the central results and references for its topic. The chapters are organized into six parts. Part I describes the fundamental properties of the Tutte polynomial, providing an overview of the Tutte polynomial and the necessary background for the rest of the handbook. Part II is concerned with questions of computation, complexity, and approximation for the Tutte polynomial; Part III covers a selection of related graph polynomials; Part IV discusses a range of applications of the Tutte polynomial to mathematics, physics, and biology; Part V includes various extensions and generalizations of the Tutte polynomial; and Part VI provides a history of the development of the Tutte polynomial. Features Written in an accessible style for non-experts, yet extensive enough for experts Serves as a comprehensive and accessible introduction to the theory of graph polynomials for researchers in mathematics, physics, and computer science Provides an extensive reference volume for the evaluations, theorems, and properties of the Tutte polynomial and related graph, matroid, and knot invariants Offers broad coverage, touching on the wide range of applications of the Tutte polynomial and its various specializations

Book Synopsis Preference, Belief, and Similarity by : Amos Tversky
Download or read book Preference, Belief, and Similarity written by Amos Tversky and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 2003-11-21 with total page 1046 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Amos Tversky (1937–1996), a towering figure in cognitive and mathematical psychology, devoted his professional life to the study of similarity, judgment, and decision making. He had a unique ability to master the technicalities of normative ideals and then to intuit and demonstrate experimentally their systematic violation due to the vagaries and consequences of human information processing. He created new areas of study and helped transform disciplines as varied as economics, law, medicine, political science, philosophy, and statistics. This book collects forty of Tversky's articles, selected by him in collaboration with the editor during the last months of Tversky's life. It is divided into three sections: Similarity, Judgment, and Preferences. The Preferences section is subdivided into Probabilistic Models of Choice, Choice under Risk and Uncertainty, and Contingent Preferences. Included are several articles written with his frequent collaborator, Nobel Prize-winning economist Daniel Kahneman.
