This book was released on 1970 with total page 109 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hydrocarbon jet fuels tend to form deposits at elevated temperatures that decrease heat exchanger efficiency and plug screens and filter elements. The Advanced Aircraft Fuel System Simulator provides generalized performance data, with respect to thermal stability, on various advanced fuels that will be used to correlate to small-scale test results and provide information on design criteria for future supersonic aircraft. In this report, the thermal stability of the fifth fuel (AFFB-12-68) tested in the simulator is quantified in terms of the amount of deposit formed. The quantification of deposit formation is determined under cyclic conditions (mission profiles) and types of steady-state test conditions (steady-state and steady-state-varied flow).

This book was released on 1965 with total page 62 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A program was carried out to identify potential fuel system problem areas and to provide a basis for evaluating the potentialities of small-scale fuel thermal stability test techniques. The program included (1) development of fuel system environmental conditions; (2) design, construction, and operation of a large-scale fuel test rig under simulated Mach 2-1/2 and Mach 3 conditions using a commercial Jet A fuel; and (3) small-scale testing of a range of aviation turbine fuels. Potential problem areas such as tanks, filters, heat exchangers, fuel manifolds, and fuel nozzles in which fuel degradation could cause deposits and affect operation were identified. Small-scale, steady-state fuel evaluation techniques showed promise of being able to predict large-scale service type operation. (Author).

Appendix B written by PRATT AND WHITNEY AIRCRAFT GROUP EAST HARTFORD CT. and published by . This book was released on 1965 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hamilton Standard, under contract to Pratt and Whitney Aircraft, has conducted a design and development study to conceive and optimize, within contract and time limitations, a fuel control system for the P and WA SST engine. This effort consisted of design and analytical studies, material investigations, and development efforts necessary to adapt current state-of-the-art concepts and new concepts into a fuel control system compatible with the SST environments, envelope requirements, and accuracy tolerances specified for this application. The system decided upon and studied is a hydromechanical unitized concept featuring high reliability, ease of maintenance, durability, and low overall system weight. This report covers all studies conducted under Phase 2 B of the contract for the fuel control system as well as Hamilton Standard funded elastomeric seal development work.

This book was released on 1970 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At elevated temperatures, hydrocarbon jet fuels tend to form deposits which decrease heat exchanger efficiency and plug screens and filter elements. In order to quantify this tendency so that it may be predicted, it is necessary to obtain comparative test results on a simulated aircraft fuel system and small-scale test devices. In the report, the thermal stability of five fuels, tested in the Advanced Aircraft Fuel System Simulator, are quantified in terms of the amount of deposit formed and effect on performance. In addition, the results of tests performed on the five fuels in twelve small-scale test devices are delineated and analyzed with respect to the fuels performance in the simulator. (Author).

Download or read book Combustion in Advanced Gas Turbine Systems written by I. E. Smith and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-05-17 with total page 415 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cranfield International Symposium Series, Volume 10: Combustion in Advanced Gas Turbine Systems covers the proceedings of an International Propulsion Symposium, held at the College of Aeronautics in Cranfield in April 1967. The book focuses on the processes, methodologies, reactions, and transformations involved in chemical combustion. The selection first takes a look at the design considerations in advanced gas turbine combustion chambers, combustion in industrial gas turbines, and combustion development on the Rolls-Royce Spey engine. Discussions focus on mechanical condition, carbon-formation and exhaust smoke, system requirements, fuel oil ash deposition and corrosion, combustion-system design, performance requirements, types of primary zone, fuel injection, and combustion chamber types. The text then examines subsonic flow flameholder studies using a low pressure simulation technique; stabilization of hydrogen diffusion flames by flame-holders in supersonic flow at low stagnation temperatures; and augmentation systems for turbofan engines. The book takes a look at a consideration of the possible use of refractory ceramic materials for advanced combustion chamber design; cooling of flame tubes by steam injection; and combustion problems in the massive steam injection gas turbine. The selection is a valuable source of information for researchers interested in the process of combustion in advanced gas turbine systems.

This book was released on 1945 with total page 22 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A comparison has been made in flight of the antiknock characteristics of triptane and a temperature-sensitive fuel component (xylidines) with a reference fuel (28-R) and of flight fuel knock limits with engine cooling limits. The knock limits of the three fuels were investigated in a modified 14-cylinder double-row radial air-cooled engine installed in a four-engine airplane. Tests were conducted at engine speeds of 1800 and 2250 rpm, at high and low blower ratios, spark settings of 25 degrees and 32 degrees B.T.C., and the carburetor-air temperature was maintained at approximately 85 degrees F. All tests for a given engine speed were made with approximately constant cooling-air pressure drop; consequently, engine-temperature levels were higher and the higher performance levels.
