Book excerpt: Directed to leaders and administrators in education, the monograph reviews issues, practices, and possibilities in the interface between special educators and general educators at the service delivery or decision making levels. The first chapter examines the development of public educational systems with sections on the historical context, the present status of the resource room model, the present status of the teacher consultant model, and the possibility of system unification. The next chapter considers the concept of shared responsibility, with focus on prereferral and teaming as shared responsibilities. The third chapter discusses personnel role changes in sections on role change and preparation needs for special educators, general educators, and administrators, respectively; as well as the impact of the effective schools movement. The final chapter is on fiscal concerns, especially the impetus given by limited funds for effective interaction between general and special education. Each chapter ends with a brief summary and lists responsibilities of local special education administrators. These include the need to seek models through which productive merging of special and general education resources and programs may be institutionalized and to seek out ways to reduce duplication and conserve the fiscal resources of both general and special education. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The integration of children with special educational needs was a crucial issue for the 1990s. Many countries were reassessing and reorganising their systems of provision in the light of legislation to provide entitlement for all. There was noticeable worldwide trend away from entirely separate provision for learners with special educational needs. At the same time there was no agreement on how exactly they should be integrated with other students. The reader will gain a clear understanding of educational provision, the societal forces that push for greater integration and the attitudes that promote or hinder educational success.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In order to achieve successful regular classroom participation for children with disabilities with supplementary aids and services, consultant teacher services are essential. This book is intended for special education teachers and other professionals providing special education services with information, guidelines and suggestions relating to the role and responsibilities of the special education consultant teacher. Every state must provide a continuum of alternative placements (e.g. regular classroom, resource room, self-contained setting), but the focus of this guide is participation in the regular classroom and/or regular curriculum OC to enable children with disabilities to be educated with nondisabled children to the maximum extent appropriate.OCO The many suggestions provided should prove useful concerning what the special education consultant teacher can and should do to enable children with disabilities to be educated with nondisabled children. The book is comprised of seven parts as follows: (1) basic consultant teacher responsibilities and regulatory concerns; (2) planning, individualized planning and IEP consultant teacher services; (3) outlining the various consultant teacher indirect services; (4) describing the direct consultant teacher services; (5) the importance of the regular classroom and the regular classroom teacher for the consultant teacher; (6) identifying the many Least Restrictive Environment, inclusion and mainstreaming issues important to the consultant teacher; and (7) addressing the varied supervisory and job responsibilities of the consultant teacher."

This book was released on 1982 with total page 82 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purposes of this study were twofold. First, it surveyed the attitudes of regular classroom teachers toward special-needs children in their classrooms. Second, it determined if a relationship existed between attitude and these variables: grade level, number of students in the school and class, the teacher's perception of his/her degree of success with special-needs children, level of administrative support received, availability of additional support services, years teaching experience, the number of special education courses taken, or the number of mainstreamed students in the teacher's class this year.
