Rogers’s (1995) Theory of the Diffusion of Innovations suggests that there is a positive relationship among students’ attitudes, perceptions, and expectations toward instructional technology in relation to the diffusion of innovations. Furthermore, the evidence shows that there is a very high correlation between acceptance of diffusion and students’ attitudes, acceptance of diffusion and students’ perceptions, and acceptance of diffusion and students’ expectations toward instructional technology. The relative advantage of an innovation can be influenced by social prestige, convenience, and satisfaction with an innovation.

Book excerpt: This quantitative study examines faculty attitudes toward technology integration and use of technology in higher education classrooms. The survey itself was divided into four parts. Part One: Demographics; Part Two: Attitude Toward Technology Integration with 12 items; Part Three: Integration of Technology in Teaching and Learning with 13 items; Part Four: Short Answers About Technology Integration with three items. For the survey populations, a score was formulated from the results of each question in section two (attitude toward technology) and from section three (technology integration). The information provided in the three short answers offered additional insight to the participants' scores in the two sections of the survey. Findings indicated there were no significant differences in relationships between faculty and technology integration, and faculty and attitude toward technology integration. - Abstract.

Book excerpt: For the last two decades of this age of globalization we are living, technological advancement remarked every aspect of our lives significantly and especially the developments in the information technologies has revolutionized the teaching and learning centered activities as well as the research related activities in higher education. Apart from providing quality teaching to a larger number of adult students via remarkable technologies, higher education institutions are required to improve their administrative activity, efficiency and accountability in response to the new demands. The study aims to determine lecturers' attitudes towards the acceptance and use of new technologies in their lectures within the context of higher education and provide alternative strategies for the faculty administrators in terms of increasing technology adaptation responding to the demands of both faculty and students. A series of works have been undertaken to collect data for the research. Related literature was reviewed and a questionnaire was developed by the researchers. The study was also followed by semi-structured interviews conducted with the university lecturers and administrators. The questionnaire was applied to 106 lecturers and 44 responses were received, which is equal to a response rate 41 per cent in the quantitative analysis. Data regarding the qualitative side was collected from 7 senior students. (Contains 1 table.).

Book excerpt: The purpose of this study was to examine faculty membersâ perception of the status of technology support and services, their attitudes towards the incorporation of technology in general and with specific applications, and the barriers they perceive to technology use. Additionally, the study focused on the association among the predictor variables of faculty membersâ gender, age, professional status, years of higher education teaching experience, and tenure versus nontenure status with their degree of technology use. An online survey was designed to collect data to address the research questions in the study. The survey consisted of 44 questions, including areas for comments. Two-hundred ninety faculty members out of a possible 867 responded to the survey. Based on the results, conclusions have been drawn. According to the literature, the results of this study both contradict and support previous studies. Dimension 1, perceived technology support and services, and Dimension 2, perceived barriers to technology use, provided no significant difference when considering the demographic variables of age, gender, years of experience, faculty rank, and tenure versus nontenure status. Though, Dimension 3, attitudes towards the use of technology and specific applications, provided no significant difference when considering the demographic variable of age, faculty rank, and tenure versus nontenure status but there was a slight indication of significance based on years of experience. In addition, gender differences appeared among attitudes toward the use of technology and specific applications. Based on the results, females have been shown to have better attitudes toward the use of technology and specific applications, an area historically dominated by men. Also, faculty 3 members with 1-9 to 10-19 years of experience have better attitudes toward the use of technology. While faculty members with 20 or more years of experience attitude is not significantly affected by years of ex.

The field of higher education is not an exception to this phenomenon. Colleges and universities around the world are investing considerable amount of money to create Information Technology resources that meet their student's and faculty's instructional needs. While universities encourage their faculties to adopt the new technologies for their preparation and delivery of classes, various other factors influence the integration or resistance of acceptance of these technologies. Age, highest education earned, teaching experience, computer competency, prior computer experience, availability of technology, Institutional support etc. are examples of these factors. Based on the theoretical support of Roger's Diffusion Theory, a conceptual model is developed to identify the critical success factors that influence the adoption of Information Technology among faculties of tertiary educational institutions. The model is empirically tested among the faculty members of leading universities in Asian region. 261 full time lecturers participated in this study and the results show that factors such as computer self-efficacy, relative advantage, compatibility and prior computer experience are significantly influencing their perceived ease of use and attitude towards using educational technologies.

Book excerpt: Published Under the Garamond Imprint Multimedia, the information superhighway and the Internet have changed our world almost beyond recognition. Electronic networks have revolutionized the human relationship to time and space, and have undermined national boundaries. But what of class, race and gender boundaries? Is it true that women use technology, but men fall in love with it? Dale Spender promises to change the way we think about computers. She reveals that men are writing the road rules for the information superhighway subjecting women to new forms of sexual harassment and even data rape. Violence on the Internet is an all-too-common event in virtual reality. These are some of the problems raised by the new technologies, but Dale Spender is also excited about the possibilities of the new media. She asks, will the Internet create virtual sisterhood? Nattering on the Net is the result of many years' research during which the author made the transition from books to the Internet. She conveys her sheer delight cruising the Web and satisfying her unquenchable curiosity. She argues that it is creating unimaginable opportunities in the areas of education and authorship; the question is: can we use it for good?

Book excerpt: The purpose of this study was to examine student and faculty attitudes toward computer technology in advanced arts classes at a southeastern university in the United States. This one semester study was focused on the traditional arts disciplines of art, dance, music, and theatre. This correlational analysis limited to faculty members and students engaged in the 3000 and 4000 level undergraduate classes. The sample of 306 students and 45 faculty members participants was taken from the population from the visual and performing arts disciplines. Attitudes of both students and faculty members were examined through perceptions of liking, usefulness, confidence, and anxiety levels toward computers. Results indicated that based on correlational analysis, the more faculty members liked computers the more students liked computers had more positive attitudes toward computers when more competent with computers. Furthermore, the results showed that faculty members had more positive attitudes toward computers when they felt more competent with computers. Based on the results of this study, the researcher recommends that universities need to initiate formal computer training programs for the arts faculty to engage students use computer technology in the arts.
