Book Synopsis Learn to Perform Confirmatory Factor Analysis in Stata with Data from the General Social Survey (2016) by : Catherine Zimmer
Download or read book Learn to Perform Confirmatory Factor Analysis in Stata with Data from the General Social Survey (2016) written by Catherine Zimmer and published by . This book was released on 2019 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This example introduces readers to confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). CFA is used to model how well latent variables are related to multiple observed variables that serve as measurements of the latent variables. In contrast to exploratory factor analysis (EFA), the links of particular latent variables to particular observed variables are specified in advance and tested statistically, not derived from the data. CFA is a type of structural equation model (SEM) used for measurement of concepts. These measurement models can be components of larger SEM models with latent variables being predictors of other variables or outcomes. This example introduces readers to the basic theory and assumptions associated with CFA, estimators and the interpretation of estimates, the associated hypothesis tests, results production, and reporting. The dataset file is accompanied by a Teaching Guide, a Student Guide, and a How-to Guide for Stata.

Book Synopsis Exploratory Factor Analysis by : Leandre R. Fabrigar
Download or read book Exploratory Factor Analysis written by Leandre R. Fabrigar and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2011-12-22 with total page 170 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) has played a major role in research conducted in the social sciences for more than 100 years, dating back to the pioneering work of Spearman on mental abilities. Since that time, EFA has become one of the most commonly used quantitative methods in many of the social sciences, including psychology, business, sociology, education, political science, and communications. To a lesser extent, it has also been utilized within the physical and biological sciences. Despite its long and widespread usage in many domains, numerous aspects of the underlying theory and application of EFA are poorly understood by researchers. Indeed, perhaps no widely used quantitative method requires more decisions on the part of a researcher and offers as wide an array of procedural options as EFA does. This book provides a non-mathematical introduction to the underlying theory of EFA and reviews the key decisions that must be made in its implementation. Among the issues discussed are the use of confirmatory versus exploratory factor analysis, the use of principal components analysis versus common factor analysis, procedures for determining the appropriate number of factors, and methods for rotating factor solutions. Explanations and illustrations of the application of different factor analytic procedures are provided for analyses using common statistical packages (SPSS and SAS), as well as a free package available on the web (Comprehensive Exploratory Factor Analysis). In addition, practical instructions are provided for conducting a number of useful factor analytic procedures not included in the statistical packages.

This book was released on 2013-09-10 with total page 306 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Discovering Structural Equation Modeling Using Stata, Revised Edition is devoted to Stata’s sem command and all it can do. Learn about its capabilities in the context of confirmatory factor analysis, path analysis, structural equation modeling, longitudinal models, and multiple-group analysis. Each model is presented along with the necessary Stata code, which is parsimonious, powerful, and can be modified to fit a wide variety of models. The datasets used are downloadable, offering a hands-on approach to learning. A particularly exciting feature of Stata is the SEM Builder. This graphical interface for structural equation modeling allows you to draw publication-quality path diagrams and fit the models without writing any programming code. When you fit a model with the SEM Builder, Stata automatically generates the complete code that you can save for future use. Use of this unique tool is extensively covered in an appendix and brief examples appear throughout the text.
