Book excerpt: While the White House And The Pentagon continue to study gay men and women serving in the US military, The gay service members continue to fight in silence. Their stories need to be told. Unfortunately the country in which they have chosen to serve and protect silences these men and women. They continue to serve with honor even though the law of Don't Ask, Don't Tell strips them from simple dignities and devalues their service everyday it is enforced. In face of this discrimination, we have silent heroes coming out to tell their stories. This photo project is one way for these men and women to have a voice in the national debate, which their freedoms are at stake. They do not wish to loose their careers and they do not wish to bring discredit upon the military. They only wish to be given the same treatment as their straight comrades. They hope to finally abide by a new law that would finally allow them the dignity to uphold the fundamental values of honesty and integrity as they continue to serve. This project is meant to associate the humanity of this debate and to create a visual for those to understand what it means to serve in the closet.

Book excerpt: This psychological thriller is inspired by true stories. An extremely brave woman finds herself in a challenging dilemma. Facing mental health issues, she needs to get out of a noxious environment. Ezra is a happy young woman who hopes to one day meet Prince Charming. You know, the one who is handsome, polite, brave, romantic, looking for his true love! Shortly after her wedding, she is quickly disillusioned. She finds out he is nothing of a prince. He is somehow linked to a secret society. People who are in close contact with this group have shown similar strange behaviors. The symptoms vary from memory loss, confusion, fatigue, mental breakdown and panic attacks. They all experienced intense fear. What happened? When Ezra turns to her prince for help, she soon discovers she is in for a long ride. Worried about her children, and their safety at stake, she must make a difficult decision. Stay and maintain a rich lifestyle, and suffer, or leave but fight. As Aristotle said, he who has overcome his fears will truly be free. Short sentences, short paragraphs, for easy reading. With a mixture of action and reflections in the minds of the aggressors (who all have devils names) and victims, The Silent Force references some actual cases of honor crimes, strange syndromes such as the so-called “Havana Syndrome”, and murders by poisoning which are chilling. It is also an incredible message of hope for anyone caught in the clutches of a domineering family, victim of domestic violence, or in any toxic relationship. A thriller to read, with a single mantra: There is always a way! RoseM is Canadian, born in the Caribbeans. She is a working mom with three children. RoseM loves cooking and watching series with her family. She is fluent in French, English and Creole, and has a basic knowledge of Spanish. RoseM holds a Bachelor of Arts degree, with a major in Sociology and Leisure Studies. She has taken part in several motivational speech contests. Book excerpt: Human life, devoid of all its world-ideals and beliefs, becomes deprived of its higher sense and meaning. But the world-ideals can never completely die out. Exiled by the fathers, they will be received with open arms by the children. The Theosophical Movement was reborn in 1875 and thus the cyclic evolution of theosophical ideals continues.

Book excerpt: A personal and cultural exploration of silence and its value in our lives—“[an] artful book, mixing autobiography, travel writing, meditation, and essay” (Independent, UK). In her late forties, after a noisy upbringing as one of six children and adulthood as a vocal feminist and mother, Sara Maitland found herself living alone in the country and, to her surprise, falling in love with silence. In this fascinating, intelligent, and beautifully written book, Maitland describes how she began to explore this new love, spending periods of silence in the Sinai desert, the Scottish hills, and a remote cottage on the Isle of Skye. Maitland also delves deep into the rich cultural history of silence, exploring its significance in fairy tale and myth, its importance to the Western and Eastern religious traditions, and its use in psychoanalysis and artistic expression. Her story culminates in her building a hermitage on an isolated moor in Galloway. “Her book is probably unique in its subject, and timely, because good, healing silence is becoming hard to find, and we may not know we need it” (Guardian, UK).

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In their recent book The Silent God, Marjo Korpel and Johannes de Moor presented a provocative view on the concept of divine silence in ancient Israel. In their view, divine silence can be explained as an answer to a variety of circumstances. Additionally, they opt for the view that divine silence needs to be answered by appropriate human conduct. The essays in this volume applaud and challenge their views from different perspectives: exegetical, ancient Near Eastern, semantic, philosophical etc. Some authors hint at the view that divine silence should be construed as an indication of divine absence. Korpel and De Moor give a learned response to their critics. Contributors include: Bob Becking, Joel Burnett, Meindert Dijkstra, Walter Dietrich, Matthijs de Jong, Paul Sanders, Marcel Sarot, Anne-Mareike Wetter, Marjo Korpel and Johannes C. de Moor.

Book excerpt: An inspiring in-depth look at the nineteenth-century Godman of India and Prophet of Harmony. Sri Ramakrishna, one of the greatest spiritual personalities of our time, is widely recognized as the Prophet of the Harmony of Religions. After perfecting the practice of several religions—including Christianity, Islam and various traditions of Hinduism—he declared, “As many faiths, so many paths.” For the first time, two classic biographies—Dhan Gopal Mukerji’s The Face of Silence (1926) and Swami Nikhilananda’s Sri Ramakrishna (1942)—are brought together to provide a fuller understanding of the life and spiritual significance of Sri Ramakrishna as well as the systems of Indian religious thought intimately connected with him. Pairing legend with fact, memory with history, this unique volume—including an Introduction to Sri Ramakrishna’s God-consciousness by Swami Adiswarananda—succeeds in intimately examining the teachings of Sri Ramakrishna and conveying the true story of this great mystic, whose leaping flame of spiritual realization continues to influence the modern spiritual search.
