Book excerpt: Abstract: "This paper presents a robust and an efficient algorithm of consistency control of replicated ID table entries in distributed systems. By taking the advantages of special characteristics of ID entries, the algorithm not only achieves high concurrency of updating ID entries, but also can tolerate both node failures and network failures and can recover these failure efficiently. The algorithm differs from conventional mechanisms of consistency control of replicated data in several aspects: (1) updating ID table entries and propagations of updates without synchronizing other replicas. (2) gradual recoveries of site failures. (3) focused detections and recoveries of network failures. The access consistency of the algorithm is also discussed."
