It also includes the most comprehensive treatment of Ireland ever attempted. The reference list is a comprehensive bibliography of papers on the subject published since 1970.". "This Special Report will be a valuable reference for research and applied geoscientists working with rocks of Ordovician age. It will be of particular interest to those working in, or visiting, the Welsh mountains and the English Lake District."--BOOK JACKET.
Book Synopsis A Revised Correlation of Precambrian Rocks in the British Isles by : Anthony Leonard Harris

Book excerpt: This second and completely revised edition of Special Report No. 6 provides a comprehensive review and report of work carried out since 1975. It emphasises the relationship between, and the correlation of, the units in to which the Precambrian rocks of England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales and the Channel Islands have been divided. The chapters also provide a comprehensive bibliography of the work on which the correlations have been based.
Book Synopsis A revised correlation of Tertiary rocks in the British Isles and adjacent areas of NW Europe by : C. King
Download or read book A revised correlation of Tertiary rocks in the British Isles and adjacent areas of NW Europe written by C. King and published by Geological Society of London. This book was released on 2016-01-05 with total page 708 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Special Report comprehensively describes the stratigraphy and correlation of the Tertiary (Paleogene–Neogene) rocks of NW Europe and the adjacent Atlantic Ocean and is the summation of fifty years of research on Tertiary sediments by Chris King. His book is essential reading for all geologists who deal with Tertiary rocks across NW Europe, including those in the petroleum industry and geotechnical services as well as academic stratigraphers and palaeontologists. Introductory sections on chronostratigraphy, biostratigraphy and other methods of dating and correlation are followed by a regional summary of Tertiary sedimentary basins and their framework and an introduction to Tertiary igneous rocks. The third and largest segment comprises the regional stratigraphic summaries. Regions covered are the North Sea Basin, onshore areas of southern England and the eastern English Channel area, the North Atlantic margins (including non-marine basins in the Irish Sea and elsewhere) and the Paleogene igneous rocks of Scotland.

Book Synopsis A Revised Correlation of Carboniferous Rocks in the British Isles by : C. N. Waters
Download or read book A Revised Correlation of Carboniferous Rocks in the British Isles written by C. N. Waters and published by Geological Society of America. This book was released on 2011 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report revises and expands upon the 1976 and 1978 publications for the Dinantian and Silesian, respectively, combining them into a single account of British and Irish Carboniferous stratigraphy. The need to update the two Special Reports reflects the considerable advances in Carboniferous geology over the last 30 years. The report covers developments in international chronostratigraphy and incorporates wholesale reassessments of British lithostratigraphy. A huge volume of biostratigraphical information has been published over recent decades and the report summarizes the key information. Carboniferous rocks have long been of economic importance, but it is the search for hydrocarbons, in its infancy at the time of the previous reports, which has greatly increased our understanding of Carboniferous successions offshore and at depth, particularly in southern and eastern England. This Special Report will be a valuable reference for research and applied geoscientists working on rocks of Carboniferous age in the UK, Ireland and offshore areas.
Book Synopsis A Revised Correlation of the Cambrian Rocks in the British Isles by : A. W. A. Rushton
Download or read book A Revised Correlation of the Cambrian Rocks in the British Isles written by A. W. A. Rushton and published by Geological Society of London. This book was released on 2011 with total page 68 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work reviews the correlation of the British and Irish Cambrian with the current (though incomplete) international standard for the Cambrian. Since the earlier edition of 1972, the basal and upper limits of the Cambrian system have been internationally agreed; so this account excludes Tremadocian rocks but includes some that were formerly considered Neoproterozoic. Half of the series and stage subdivisions are internationally agreed, but for the undefined divisions of the Cambrian the standard used here makes use of data from Avalonian successions. Since the first edition was published, almost every aspect of the Cambrian in the British Isles has been subjected to new study. Here, the plate tectonic make-up of the British Isles is reviewed, new radiometric ages and isotopic studies are summarized and the biostratigraphy is enhanced by the study of acritarchs, especially in the Irish successions.
