Dr. Pusey On reading Mr. Sewell's letter, the question naturally arises in one's mind, Why did he publish it? what does he mean by it? He informs Dr. Pusey that, "as several individuals had given their opinions of the tract No. 90, he thought it advisable to do as others had done, and not to leave Dr. P. to learn his sentiments from common report." This may be a very good reason for making a verbal communication to Dr. P., or, perhaps, even for writing a letter to him; but it is no reason at all for publishing that letter. The publication is rendered the more extraordinary by Mr. Sewell's own statement in another part of it. He had never been, he says, "in the slightest degree connected with the publication of the Oxford Tracts; and he had always studiously avoided habits of intimacy with their authors."
