Book Synopsis Decomposition Method for the Solution of Dual-angular Integer Programs by : Stanford University. Department of Operations Research. Systems Optimization Laboratory
Download or read book Decomposition Method for the Solution of Dual-angular Integer Programs written by Stanford University. Department of Operations Research. Systems Optimization Laboratory and published by . This book was released on 1974 with total page 90 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Integer linear programming problems whose constraint matrices have dual-angular structures arise in several types of applications, particularly those which seek to specify a strategy for future actions based on observed results of previous decisions. An implicit enumeration method for integer linear programming is developed for application to problems with such dual-angular constraint matrices. (Modified author abstract).

This book was released on 2006-04-28 with total page 542 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Optimization plainly dominates the design, planning, operation, and c- trol of engineering systems. This is a book on optimization that considers particular cases of optimization problems, those with a decomposable str- ture that can be advantageously exploited. Those decomposable optimization problems are ubiquitous in engineering and science applications. The book considers problems with both complicating constraints and complicating va- ables, and analyzes linear and nonlinear problems, with and without in- ger variables. The decomposition techniques analyzed include Dantzig-Wolfe, Benders, Lagrangian relaxation, Augmented Lagrangian decomposition, and others. Heuristic techniques are also considered. Additionally, a comprehensive sensitivity analysis for characterizing the solution of optimization problems is carried out. This material is particularly novel and of high practical interest. This book is built based on many clarifying, illustrative, and compu- tional examples, which facilitate the learning procedure. For the sake of cl- ity, theoretical concepts and computational algorithms are assembled based on these examples. The results are simplicity, clarity, and easy-learning. We feel that this book is needed by the engineering community that has to tackle complex optimization problems, particularly by practitioners and researchersinEngineering,OperationsResearch, andAppliedEconomics. The descriptions of most decomposition techniques are available only in complex and specialized mathematical journals, di?cult to understand by engineers. A book describing a wide range of decomposition techniques, emphasizing problem-solving, and appropriately blending theory and application, was not previously available.
Book Synopsis DECOMP: an Implementation of Dantzig-Wolfe Decomposition for Linear Programming by : James K. Ho
Download or read book DECOMP: an Implementation of Dantzig-Wolfe Decomposition for Linear Programming written by James K. Ho and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For linear optimization models that can be formulated as linear programs with the block-angular structure, i.e. independent subproblems with coupling constraints, the Dantzig-Wolfe decomposition principle provides an elegant framework of solution algorithms as well as economic interpretation. This monograph is the complete documentation of DECOMP: a robust implementation of the Dantzig-Wolfe decomposition method in FORTRAN. The code can serve as a very convenient starting point for further investigation, both computational and economic, of parallelism in large-scale systems. It can also be used as supplemental material in a second course in linear programming, computational mathematical programming, or large-scale systems.

Book excerpt: This paper describes DECOMPAR: an implementation of the Dantzig-Wolfe decomposition algorithm for block-angular linear programs using parallel processing of the subproblems. The software is based on a robust experimental code for LP decomposition and runs on the CRYSTAL multi-computer at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Initial computational experience is reported. Promising directions in future development of this approach are discussed. (Keywords: Multicomputers; Computations).

Download or read book A parallel decomposition algorithm for staircase linear programs written by Robert Entriken and published by . This book was released on 1988 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A simple diet planning problem is used to demonstrate the principles of the algorithm's development and performance. When applied to this problem, the parallel decomposition algorithm shows promise relative to present serial optimization codes. The nonlinear optimization code MINOS 5.1 is used both as a basis for comparison and as a generic subproblem solver. The greatest room for speedup is in exploiting problem structures. The results show that decomposition can improve efficiency even with a single processor. Examples are given where multiple processors lead to still greater efficiency."
