Book excerpt: Rainbows & Tears was inspired by the old Indian saying, "Your soul would have no rainbow if your eyes had no tears." It is too easy to let our losses and sorrows overshadow the true gifts in our lives. Though you may be in a dark place, the stars will shine and the sun will rise if you let it. Happiness comes from within and from the love and laughter of friends and family for they are your rainbows and will share your tears. The words and emotions are universal and all will relate to the losses and the joys expressed in Rainbows & Tears. About the Author Sue Lucas grew up in Chicago, Illinois, but now makes her home in Villa Rica, Georgia, along with her husband of 49 years and her two dogs. She has three daughters. One lives in South Carolina, one is in Georgia, and one lives in Heaven. These three beautiful girls have given her eight grandchildren. Sue first discovered poetry in the fourth grade when her class studied the poetry of Eugene Field, specifically "The Sugar Plum Tree" and "Little Boy Blue." Fifty-nine years later, the latter is still her favorite poem. In fifth grade, she wrote, produced, narrated, and starred in her production of "Life in a Medieval Castle." Unfortunately, it didn't make it to Broadway, but she has been writing poetry ever since. Recently, Sue experienced an unimaginable sadness with the untimely death of her daughter. Poetry is the expression of her inner feelings and she personally shares her own rainbows and tears with you in her book.

Book Synopsis Promise of the Rainbow Through My Tears by : Richard Claude Valdez
Download or read book Promise of the Rainbow Through My Tears written by Richard Claude Valdez and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2011-06-22 with total page 120 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Promise of the Rainbow Through My Tears is a collection of romantic, lyrical and metaphysical poems, together with songs and ballads. The themes are a roving vagabond's stroll amongst images, scenes and telling experiences. Some reflect profound memories-pleasant and unpleasant-seen through the eyes of childhood and adolescence. Some are filled with a young man's romance and ripe with rhyme and imagery. While others are introspective and searching an old man's coming to grips with his mortality. Above all, these poems tell the story of life's journey; from the cradle, along the dream of life, to the grave and beyond. The poems themselves are not divided into any particular order or theme; they roam much like the authors experiences and gather their own rhythm as their theme dictates. Although the poetic style of rhyme is not popular in modern poetry, much can be found throughout this collection, which accents the author's nonconventional approach to his work. What is evident though, is the varied themes reflected in this volume, which suggests that any reader will find some poem or line that would draw on his or her personal experience.
Book Synopsis A Rainbow in the Night by : Dominique Lapierre
Download or read book A Rainbow in the Night written by Dominique Lapierre and published by Da Capo Press. This book was released on 2009-11-03 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1652 a small group of Dutch farmers landed on the southernmost tip of Africa. Sent by the powerful Dutch India Company, their mission was simply to grow vegetables and supply ships rounding the cape. The colonists, however, were convinced by their strict Calvinist faith that they were among God's “Elect,” chosen to rule over the continent. Their saga—bloody, ferocious, and fervent—would culminate three centuries later in one of the greatest tragedies of history: the establishment of a racist regime in which a white minority would subjugate and victimize millions of blacks. Called apartheid, it was a poisonous system that would only end with the liberation from prison of one of the moral giants of our time, Nelson Mandela. A Rainbow in the Night is Dominique Lapierre's epic account of South Africa's tragic history and the heroic men and women—famous and obscure, white and black, European and African—who have, with their blood and tears, brought to life the country that is today known as the Rainbow Nation.

Book Synopsis The Tears and Smiles of Things by : Andriy Sodomora
Download or read book The Tears and Smiles of Things written by Andriy Sodomora and published by Academic Studies PRess. This book was released on 2024-03-12 with total page 84 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Inspired by Virgil’s exquisitely ambivalent phrase “sunt lacrimae rerum” (there are tears of/for/in things), Andriy Sodomora, the Ukrainian “voice” of classical antiquity, has produced a series of original vignettes and essays about things: the big things in our lives (like happiness, loneliness, and aging); the small things we do or see daily, rarely paying attention to them (like a tree’s shadow or the kernels on an ear of corn); and the things (i.e., objects) to which we form connections. The selected stories presented here are the first English translations of Sodomora’s profoundly intellectual and intertextual prose. Through his nostalgic memories and recollections, Sodomora takes readers on a journey through western Ukraine, as well as through world literature, from ancient Greece and Rome to the poetry of Paul Verlaine and Federico García Lorca. This book has been published with the support of the Translate Ukraine Translation Program.

Live the life I lived in utmost secrecy. Pats incredible story takes readers on a terrifying journey through 22 years of convent life in 20th century America. Promised to God when she was dying at age 3, she eventually enters a Catholic order of women where she is controlled by rigid rules and must wear a cumbersome 17th century habit looking like a flying nun. During 3 years of formation she is stripped of her own identity and forced into a mold. She must give up the family she loves, while her Superiors squash her passion for art, music, and nature. She must live under vows that require blind obedience, no pay for her work, and untainted celibacy. All of these sacrifices are demanded in Gods all-justifying Name. Leaving the convent would be turning her back on God and risking eternal damnation, Superiors say. After reading Pats true story, readers are faced with a question: Was Pat, and thousands of other women like her, abused by the very religion they loved? Emmy-award winning screenwriter and one of Pats mentors, Vickie Patik, says, THE TEARS I COULDNT CRY is a triumph of the human spirit and an inspiration to anyone who is working up the courage to question cherished beliefs and seek closure through honest reflection and self-healing. Barnaby Conrad, co-founder of the Santa Barbara Writers Conference and its co-director for 33 years says that Pat has written her story that is terrifying and beautiful and VERY moving.
