Book excerpt: La maladie d’Alzheimer (MA) et l’aphasie progressive primaire de type Iogopénique (APPL) sont deux affections neurodégénératives sous-tendues par des processus anatomo-pathologiques similaires. Sur le plan clinique, I’APPL se caractérise par une détérioration progressive et isolée du langage, où les perturbations phonologiques, dues à un dysfonctionnement de la boucle phonologique de la mémoire de travail, sont au premier plan. La MA est quant à elle décrite par une atteinte précoce de la mémoire épisodique, avec des troubles langagiers au second plan et notamment une préservation tardive des performances phonologiques. Du fait des processus neurodégénératifs communs à ces deux pathologies, nous avons souhaité vérifier si les perturbations phonologiques sont réellement absentes des tableaux initiaux de MA. En cas de présence de difficultés phonologiques, nous avons recherché si celles-ci étaient uniquement corrélables à un délicit de la boucle phonologique de la mémoire de travail comme dans I’APPL ou s’il existait une origine linguistique, mise en évidence par un effet de la complexité phonético-phonologique sur les performances des sujets. Pour cela, 8 patients soutirant de MA au stade léger, 2 patients atteints d’APPL recrutés au sein de la file active des patients suivis au Centre Mémoire de Recherche et de Ressources (CMRR) de Tours et 8 sujets témoins appariés aux sujets MA ont été soumis à un protocole d’épreuves de fluence verbale, d’empans de chiffres et de mots et de répétition de mots et non-mots. Les résultats montrent qu’il existe des difficultés phonologiques pour un sous-groupe de trois patients MA en l’absence de déficit de la boucle phonologique de leur mémoire de travail. Par contre, aucun effet de la complexité phonético-phonologique n’a été retrouvé chez aucun des sujets, tous groupes confondus.

Unlike in these models, suprasegmental structure is derived directly from the segmental representations, and these representations are based on single-valued features, or components (rather than Chomsky and Halle-type binary features), linked by the dependency relation to form suprasegmental structures, with the exact nature of the dependency relations being directly determined by the properties of the segmental structure. Phonology is currently noteworthy for the diversity of views within the discipline, but no linguist or phonetician with a serious interest in phonology can afford to ignore this book or fail to be interested by it.
