It is a major oil palm planter in Malaysia. While there are books written on the ecological and economical aspects of the oil palm industry, there is no book written specifically on the treatment processes of palm oil mill effluent. This book is written based on a year study case in a medium-sized palm oil mill in the northern region of Sabah. It is written in the simplest way of expression and accompanied by many photos and diagrams to ease understanding. Discussions include treatment processes that occurred in the pre-, primary, secondary and tertiary treatment stages. Readers will find it to be a useful reference especially university students.

Book Synopsis Recovery of Acetic Acid from Anaerobically Treated Palm Oil Mill Effluent for the Production of Bacterial Polyhydroxybutyrate by : Mohamed Ali Hassan
Download or read book Recovery of Acetic Acid from Anaerobically Treated Palm Oil Mill Effluent for the Production of Bacterial Polyhydroxybutyrate written by Mohamed Ali Hassan and published by . This book was released on 1997 with total page 5 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When palm oil mill effluent (POME) was treated anaerobically with sludge obtained from the anaerobic lagoon in the mill, a mixture of short-chain organic acid intermediates were produced if the activity of the methane-producing bacteria is inhibited. Separation of acetic acid from the treated POME by ion exchange chromatography was examined as a preliminary study of recovering acetic for subsequent use in the fed-batch culture of Alcaligenes eutrophus for the production of bacterial polyhydroxybutyrate. At a low pH level, acetic is strongly adsorbed on the anion exchange resin. When 0.25 M ofacetic acid was introduced to the anion exchange chromatographic column, more than 1.0 M of concentrated acetic acid was obtained by eluting with 1.0 M of HCI solution.
