This book was released on 2014-09-23 with total page 922 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Social History of Punitive Institutions in Spain needs meetings and discussions, comparison and collaboration between researchers. Only then it will become visible and intelligible as a historiographical trend and, above all, as a theoretical-methodological hope, because in fact, now it is more than conceivable as a historiographical practice. Here in this book are outlined, along with the achievements, the shortcomings and the most pressing challenges. Far from seeking an extemporaneous autonomy, Social History of Punitive Institutions wants to try to find its own feasibility based on intersections and good mixings. Those objectives were considered by the Study Group about History of Prison and Punitive Institutions (Grupo de Estudio sobre la Historia de la Prisión y las Instituciones Punitivas, GEHPIP) –an interuniversity team and with central office at Universidad de Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM)– when organising what it decided to name in an homonymous way 1st International Congress on History of Prison and Punitive Institutions (I Congreso Internacional sobre Historia de la Prisión y las Instituciones Punitivas), held in Ciudad Real (Spain) from 10 to 12 April 2013. The electronic book here presented is a good example of what it was told and discussed there.

Unfortunately, the state of Paraná is over-represented with seven poets, and only four other states are represented at all, thus ignoring much of the richness and variety of Brazilian poetry today"--Handbook of Latin American Studies, v. 58.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Poetry. Translated from the Portuguese by Fred Ellison. Bilingual edition. A MAN AND HIS SHADOW, published in Portuguese in 2006 and appearing here as a complete bilingual edition, immerses the reader in renowned Brazilian poet Affonso Romano de Sant'Anna's enigmatic world of shadows. A master of humorous meditation, Sant'Anna offers the reader an elegant and beguiling compendium of miniature histories. As we eavesdrop on encounters between the conscious and unconscious mind, we enter a curious realm in which shadows take part in duels, fetch the daily paper, and attend orgies, while their corporeal counterparts engage in the usual impetuous acts of treachery and devotion. At once mercurial, funny and profound, the linked verse narratives in A MAN AND HIS SHADOW form an irreverent collection of organized whimsy.

Book excerpt: "Since the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo in 1848, the United States and Mexico have been inextricably linked. The blending of the American and Mexican cultures has enriched both nations. Through a partnership to promote wider access to literary voices of Mexican artists in the U.S. and American writers in Mexico, the National Endowment for the Arts, the United States Embassy in Mexico, and the National Autonomous University of Mexico have joined together to support a program of anthology publications and public outreach activities. The two-volume set-Lineas conectadas: nueva poesia de los Estados Unidos and Connecting Lines: New Poetry from Mexico-is the first installment in the series. With definitive translations by leading writers and scholars, these dual volumes offer a glimpse into the beauty of the Mexican and the American experience through the microscopic lens of poetry. Whether read for personal pleasure or classroom study, Lineas conectadas and Connecting Lines are a must-read for anyone curious of our ever-increasing multicultural identity."--Publisher's website.

This book was released on 2020-05-19 with total page 145 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book understands digital cultural production of electronic literatures and digital art by looking at electronic and digital works that produce subjective positionality, clouded knowledges of quantum theories, and metaphysical patterns grounded in a cultural ideology. This book underlines a conceptual framework for understanding how digital media impacts reading, approaching, and even interpreting social reality. The qualitative analyses interpret the current zeitgeist, and the works selected speak of the diverse, sometimes regionalized, and often multi-ethnic reality of the Latin American experience. The analyses elaborate on how artists reflect both the world they live in and a universal consciousness. These artists are not simply “digitalizing literature,” and these works are more than techy creations; rather, they make us think of other directions and connections.
